Chapter 11
Mortisha POV
When my brother called me into his office, I already knew what he wanted. He needed me to see if the rogue girl was telling the truth.
I didn't mind. I'd rather invade one mind than let someone destroy my brother's pack.
She sat quietly in the chair while I stood by the window. Closing my eyes, I reached for her mind. The moment our minds connected, memories crashed into me one after another. I saw her mate in another she-wolf's bed. I felt the heartbreak when she rejected him before he could reject her. Then another memory appeared.
Her old Alpha, Simon. He ordered her to spy on the kingdom. She refused, but he threatened her life until she agreed. Even then, she never intended to follow through. She only wanted to escape.
Another memory flashed.
She was speaking with the King and Queen. Then she was running...Always running. She wanted nothing more than to disappear and live alone, free from everyone who had controlled her life. Another memory forced itself forward. She was just a little girl.
Her parents loved her. They adored her. Then everything turned red.
Simon murdered them.
She never believed the story that rogues had killed them. Deep down, she always knew it had been Simon. She escaped before he could murder her too.
The memories kept coming, one after another, until my head began pounding. I immediately broke the connection, gasping for air.
That girl… She had survived more than most wolves ever would.
I mindlinked Brady.
"Be careful with this one. She's been through hell. Her old Alpha murdered her parents. Her mate cheated on her, and Simon forced her to spy on the kingdom. She never wanted to do it. That's why she was running. She wasn't running toward anyone... she was running away from everything. Handle her carefully."
Brady gave the smallest nod before turning his attention back to the young woman. "So, little one," he said gently.
"What's your name? I'm Alpha Brady, but you can just call me Brady."
She hesitated before answering. "My name is Bora... but I go by Bella now. I don't want anyone finding me, so I changed it."
"I see." Brady folded his hands on the desk. "Then tell me, Bella... why did my Beta and warriors find you on my land? Were you sent here to spy on my pack?"
She rolled her eyes dramatically. I couldn't stop the small smile tugging at my lips. I already liked her.
"No," she sighed. "No one sent me to spy on anyone. All I want is to leave. That's it."
"I believe you," Brady replied. "But first, I'd like to discuss something with you." He leaned back in his chair. "I'm going to be honest. Before the end of the year, I need an heir. After the baby is born, you're free to leave... or stay if you choose. Until you're pregnant, you'll stay in the Luna's room. Once you're carrying my child, you'll move into my room so I can bond with the baby."
Silence filled the office. Even I wondered how she was going to react.
Bella POV
I sat there staring at him. Was this man actually serious? I had just arrived, and he was already asking me to have his child. I didn't even know his favorite color, I didn't know what food he liked.
I didn't know anything about him. Had I escaped one crazy Alpha just to land in another pack with another crazy Alpha? I shook my head.
"I don't even know who you are," I said. "I just got here, and you want me to have your baby and then leave? Are you freaking crazy? I thought I left that kind of life behind."
Brady remained calm. "I understand we don't know each other. How about we spend a week getting to know each other? Then we'll discuss having an heir."
I laughed. "A week? You think a week is enough to know someone? It's going to take a lot longer than that."
He raised an eyebrow. "Then tell me what you want."
"I have conditions. If you expect me to even consider this, we're doing it my way."
"Fine," he agreed. "As long as they're reasonable, we'll put everything into a contract, and we'll both sign it."
I took a deep breath. "Alright." I held up one finger. "First, we spend three months getting to know each other. Likes, dislikes, favorite foods, favorite colors... everything."
A second finger. "Second, if anyone comes looking for me, you don't know who I am. I don't care if it's the royals themselves. If they find out where I am, I'll disappear."
Third, "If I have your child, I choose the baby's name. I'll bond with my child first, and after the birth, I'll decide whether I stay or leave."
Fourth. "You don't sleep with anyone else until after the baby is born."
Fifth. "You treat me with kindness and respect. If you expect me to act like your Luna, then treat me like one."
Finally, my sixth condition. "I come and go as I please. Just because I like going on runs doesn't mean I'm running away. Sometimes I just need fresh air. That's all."
Brady listened without interrupting. When I finished, he nodded.
"Those are all reasonable."
He turned to his computer and immediately started typing. Several minutes later, the printer roared to life. Page after page slid into the tray. I stared at the growing stack. Holy hell… How much did this man put into that contract?
Brady gathered every page, stapled them together, placed them neatly inside a folder, and slid it across the desk toward me.
"Everything you requested is included," he said. "I also added my own conditions."
I slowly picked up the folder. Well… Here goes nothing.
