Chapter 13 Bella POV I didn't know why he was showing me around the packhouse like this, but I had to admit I loved everything I saw. I even loved the kitchen. I wondered if I would be allowed to cook. I'd love to prepare meals for the whole pack. Maybe I could ask the head cook if they would let me help once in a while. It would be nice to give the kitchen staff a day off every now and then, or at least lend them a hand. He showed me the game room, the training areas, the family room, and so much more. The family room was the last stop. It was beautiful. A large stone fireplace sat against one wall, looking as though it only came to life during the cold winter months. A huge flat-screen television hung above it. A polished round marble coffee table sat between two oversized couches, a loveseat, and several comfortable chairs. Then there was the Alpha's chair. It stood slightly apart from the rest, commanding attention without trying. I couldn't help but wonder where I would be expected to sit. "I have one more place to show you before I take you to your room," Brady said. I was exhausted. After running for nearly two weeks, my body was finally beginning to give out.,He led me to an elevator tucked away on the far-right side of the hall. We stepped inside, and the doors slid shut. I hated enclosed spaces, but I kept my fear to myself. Whatever he wanted to show me obviously meant something to him. About five minutes later, the doors opened. The rooftop. I blinked in surprise. Okay...Was he planning to kill me now? Was he going to shove me off the freaking roof? He took my hand and gently led me toward a small seating area. A round table sat between two chairs with a plate of freshly made sandwiches waiting for us. He pulled out my chair. "I thought you'd be hungry," he said with a small smile. "I had one of the omegas make something quick and bring it up here. This is my favorite place in the whole packhouse." I sat while he took the seat across from me. "When things get overwhelming, I come up here to think. I watch the stars. Sometimes I catch a shooting star. I watch the guards changing shifts. Most nights, I just sit here with a cigar or a drink and let my mind settle." His expression became more serious.,"There's something you should know. Before you, there were other women. None of them could give me an heir, so eventually I let them go." He paused before continuing.,"And if you're wondering... no, we never slept together. We used medical procedures to try to help them become pregnant, but it never worked. I'm hoping that once we get to know each other... we can try a different approach." Well… I had to give him credit. He didn't hide anything. He simply laid the truth out in front of me. He admitted he'd tried before, and he wasn't pretending otherwise. Maybe the medical procedures had failed because there had never been a real connection. I didn't know. What I did know was that I wanted to understand the man sitting across from me before I agreed to anything. At least he wasn't asking me to spy or lie for him. As I quietly ate my sandwich, he continued talking. He explained the curse placed on his bloodline. If he failed to produce an heir, his younger brother would inherit the Alpha title. What kind of curse was that? The more he explained, the more confused I became. He told me his favorite color was dark blue. He hated liars. He despised thieves and rogues. He talked about the pack, his responsibilities, and the future he hoped to build. He was like an open book. I had the feeling that if I asked him anything, he'd answer honestly. Tomorrow, I will ask my questions. Tonight… I was simply too tired. Eventually, we left the rooftop and rode the elevator down to the fifth floor, the Alpha floor. The entire floor belonged to him. His sister had a room there. His Beta had another. The room beside his belonged to me. He unlocked the door and motioned for me to step inside. "This is your room." The lights came on, and I froze. I'd never had a bedroom this beautiful before. Everything was elegant, warm, and inviting. While I was still taking it all in, Brady called me over. "Our rooms connect." He opened a door hidden in the wall, revealing his bedroom on the other side. "That way we don't have to keep walking through the hallway if we need something. We can simply come and go through here." He smiled. "If anyone is watching, they'll assume we're both staying in my room. We'll keep it that way for a while. Once you're pregnant, you'll officially move into my room." He pointed around the room. "Your bathroom is on the right. There's also a walk-in closet. Tomorrow we'll order you some clothes online. Since you don't want to be found, we'll keep you out of the public eye for now." He stepped toward the connecting door. "We've got a busy day ahead tomorrow. Get some rest. You can shower tonight or wait until morning. It's your choice." He smiled one last time. "I'll leave the connecting door unlocked in case you need me." Then he disappeared into his room. I stood there alone, taking in the silence. I didn't have any pajamas or spare clothes. Well… I guess I'll either sleep in his oversized shirt or nothing at all. First things first. I grabbed a towel and headed into the bathroom for a long, much-needed shower.
