ISABEL POV
We were out of Jonah's earshot when I realized that we weren't heading in the direction of the house the Leonards had been staying.
“Where are you taking me Ray?” I asked, only for Ray to ignore me again. This time around, I didn't take it.
I pulled away from him, breaking away from his hold, but Ray caught my arm again and pulled me closer to him.
So close that I could feel his breath on my face.
Ray's scent of cinder washed over me and Lala purred.
My mouth went dry and my senses widened until the only thing I was aware of was him.
“Ray-” I said, trying to dismiss the intensity of the moment, but my voice came out low.
Ray's hand settled on my waist, the contact sending chills down my spine.
“It's time for us to complete our marriage, isn't it.? He whispered in my ear, his voice deep abd heavy.
At the sound of his words, my whole body heated up and my cheek flushed.
I didn't remember the rest of the walk. I was too distracted by Ray constantly touching me, his fingers my skin driving me so mad that I knew if I released a bit of my grip on Lala even for a moment, I'd jump into his arms before we got to our destination.
Ray's hand fell from my lower back tye moment we got to the room that had been set up for our mating, as it's the rules of my pack.
I stepped in, unable to thank the lit candles, the rose petals spread on the bed and many romantic things in the room.
No, all my attention was in the man in front of me.
I swallowed, trying to gather my myself.
“This room belongs to Jonah and his mate,” I began, but Ray turned to face me , the expression on his face was Soo unreadable.
Than he bagan to unbutton his shirt.
My knees went weak like jelly as my mind replayed images of the previous night- of him pinning me to the bed, touching in place that made me lose my mind and tasting me.
“The room…we can't…you can't…” I stammered, my composure was far from gone, but Ray didn't allow me finish.
“Another room has been arranged for them.” He shrugged, then took off his shirt.
Lala purred within me, hot desire flowing straight to my core. We had to get closer to our mate. Touch him, take- no. No that's not going to be happening.
I needed to think instead of acting hasty. I needed to find out what this mating bond between us really meant, and process what Jonah had said earlier.
“Please excuse me,” I said, turning away from him and heading for the door as fast as possible. “My father will need to speak to me about-”
My voice cut off immediately as I felt Ray move behind me, his breath on my neck.
“I've discussed this at length with him,” Ray said his fingers trailing up the back of my neck. “He's more than happy to give you out, as long as his alliance is approved “
My father had accepted our mating bond. He just wabtede out of his pack almost as much as I wanted him out of my life too.
But now, I had no more excuses as I realized I was trapped.
Ray swept my hair off the shoulder, baring his mark to him.
“Are you afraid, little Isabel?” He taunted, snapping me out of the trace I was in.
Little Isabel. He'd started calling me that because I'd been so scared in the initial days he'd tried to kill me and he'd never stopped calling me that till this very day.
Son of a b***h.
“You wish,” I snapped, turning to look at him.
I realized my mistake immediately. Been this close to him, holding his gaze while trying to resist the pull between us was very impossible.
“Good,” Ray said, a glimmer of dark satisfaction in his hazel gaze.
Cradling the back of my neck, he drew me closer, his lips dipping to his mark on me.
He hadn't even touched me yet, but my throat was already dry.
“We need… to talk,” I managed to say, my fingers twitching with the need to touch him.
“Of course,” Ray agreed, but he didn't let go of me.
Pulling back slowly, his gaze steady on mine, he traces his thumb over my lower lips, leaving my skin tingling.
I stopped trying to remember what I wanted to say. Placing my hands on Ray's bare chest, I leaned in to kiss him, my eyes falling close.
But the kids never happened.
I felt Ray's fingers on my lips again, stopping me halfway, and my eyes flew open.
“This won't do,” Ray said casually, taking few steps away from me and picking up his shirt from the bed.
“What?” I blinked, unable to understand what was happening with my head still spinning from his touch.
Ray wire back his shirt but didn't bother buttoning it, his blue eyes cold and distant once more.
“Last night was just a one time thing, Isabel. I have no motive of touching you again.”
“Why?” I asked, only realizing how needy I sounded when Ray smirked mockingly.
Asshole.
Flushing, I cleared my throat and corrected myself . “I mean, why did you even mark me?”
Ray didn't answer immediately, and when he did, it was with a slight wrinkle between his eyebrows.
“Because you annoy me,” he said finally. “You're the only person who looks at me like you aren't afraid of me.”
What did I just hear?
Ray couldn't have been wrong. He thought I wasn't afraid of him?
I couldn't even hear his name without having fear run down my body. But growing up in this stupid pack, showing my fear was a thing I couldn't afford to do.
Ray moved closer almost gently, the slight smirk on his lips starkly contrasting the dark look in his eyes.
“But I intend to fix that. I will break you in so many ways, Isabel Martins.”
I slapped his hands off my face, ignoring Lala's painful cri in my head.
“So that's it? You gavee yourarj because you want to break me?”
Ray didn't seem bothered by my annoyance and he dismissed me flippantly.
“It doesn't hurt that it pissed off Jonah.”
Of course. This was Ray Leonard, after all. Expecting anything other than sadistic jokes from him would be unreal.
But still, the thought that he'd carried out such a sacred bonding ceremony with someone for the sole purpose of breaking them was…
“I now confirm that you're sick,” I spat out.
Ray inclined his head thoughtfully.
“You threw your at your fiance's brother tye night before your mating ceremony,” he sneered.”isn't calling me sick selfish of you?”
I raised my hand to slap him, but he caught it easily. For a moment, I stared at Ray as his hands held mine midair and his distant, cold hazel eyes silently mocked me so badly.
I realized he'd been right last night when he told me I'd regret being him.
I regretted it too soon.
Ray and I did I speak to each other again that night, and we maintained our silence for the entire long drive to the Throneblood pack the next morning, despite us being the only ones in the car.
My father didn't visit me before I left. With his alliance finalized, he didn't have any reason to speak or see me again. I felt broken but I was a bit grateful that I won't be seeing him again.
Micah held me while I cried that morning, knowing thay would be the last time the woman who was the closest thing to a mother to me. Micah wouldn't leave Bloodmoon pack with me. Unkike me, this pack was her home.
Now, I was completely alone.
The car pulled up in front of a house that was too small to be Throneblood pack house and too big to be a private house.
Ray didn't even let me appreciate tue view before he headed upstairs, with me following behind him until we reached an expensive bedroom.
“Your things with be here soon.” Ray said matter of factly. “Get ready for the Party. I'll return to walk you shortly.”
Without waiting for my response, he walked away.
Was this what being mated to the heartless prince would be like?
Ray ordering me around and me following his every order?
My claws dug into my the skin of my palms with small restrained anger. If Ray really thought that I would be his pet, he had another thing coming.
