ISABEL POV
I felt like my entire world was getting out of control.
I looked between Jonah and Ray, my heart racing quickly.
Ray's eyes lingered on the sword embedded in the pillar before meeting Jonah's gaze.
"I am not interested in fighting with you."Ray's voice was soft and calm...too calm.
Jonah bared his canines at him.
"It wasn't a polite request brother."
The tension in the hall was thick that a sword as sharp as the one on the pillar couldn't slice through it.
I glanced at Alpha Leonard, expecting him to say something, maybe end the challenge but he simply watched with a curious look on his face.
What in hell was wrong with this family?
Ray's expression didn't change at Jonah's blunt disrespect. Instead, he turned his back on him and began to walk away.
Jonah's expression twisted with anger. Faster than anyone could blink, his claws tore into Ray's back, drawing blood.
Ray didn't even flinch at the massive injury. He just turned to face Jonah, his expression still calm.
"I accept your challenge brother."
In seconds, I was swept up in the crowd of wolves rushing to reach the fighting grounds a short distance from the Throneblood pack house.
By the time I arrived the fighting grounds, the duel had already began.
The day I met Ray, I was trying to run away from his brother, Jonah.
I was supposed to meet Jonah, and if he found me pretty enough, our engagement would be fixed. Naturally, I'd fought against it, so my father sent me with an armed escort to the Throneblood pack to protect me on my trip., but we all knew they were there to prevent me from escaping.
But I'd still tried run away, and that's when I met Ray.
Ray, who claimed he'd thought I was a spy. He'd held me by the neck with just one hand, and no matter how I struggled hard to free myself I couldn't escape his strength. In that moment, I was sure I was going to die.
In the years since then, the memory had grown more in my mind, to the point where I thought my fear had overstated his strength. But as I watched him fight his brother, I realized I wasn't exaggerating anything.
Ray didn't bother with the formalities of posing or even prowling towards Jonah,he simply moved. His movement were so fast and smooth that my body ran cold. And every time he moved, regardless of Jonah's sharp counters, he landed a solid hit.
Jonah growled, moving into the partial shift so fast that his movement were a blur to my wolf vision. But Ray remained one step ahead of him, blocking Jonah's attacks without breaking a sweat.
I'd heard stories of Ray, the ruthless alpha of the Throneblood pack, and how he was undefeatable in battle, but I'd never taken any of those stories seriously.
After all the rumors were often blown out speculations, and while he'd tried to kill me once, apart from his overpowering aura, I'd never seen that side of him again.
The Ray I'd known as Jonah fiance was detached and not involved in public matters.
But the strength Ray possessed...even for a werewolf,it was unnatural.
And I asked myself one question: if Ray was this strong, why had Alpha Leonard taken the Alpha heir position from him and given it to Jonah?
"Interesting, isn't it?"Said a soft voice from behind me. I turned to see Elsa.
Her brown eyes shifted from me to the ongoing fight.
"Watching two powerful brothers fight, ready to kill themselves for you."
Her tone was as friendly as it had been when we met earlier, but now I could almost taste the bitterness in her words
I was supposed to find this interesting? What was wrong with the members of this pack?
"What are you even saying?"I growled. "I'm not making them do any of this."
Elsa shifted her head to the side, in a motion exactly similar to Ray's.
"You actually believe that. I've known Ray since I was a child, and I've never seen him beat his brother like this."Her voice was soft and calm, yet loud through the noise of the crowd. "I've never seen him publicly humiliate his brother like this."
Before I could fully wrap my mind on what she meant, those brown eyes flicked to mine again and this time, there was a small smirk playing across her lips.
"Don't you know he never sleep with the same woman twice?" She asked before adding with a shrug,"Except me, of course."
I tensed as Ray's words from the night of our mating ceremony came back to my mind.
I have no intention of touching you again.
Lala growled inside me, refusing to believe Elsa's words-thay even though he was mated to me, she was the one he wanted with all his heart. She thought Elsa was lying.
But unlike my wolf, I remembered his smile when he'd seen Elsa and way he played with her hair.
Elsa dropped all the pretense of watching the fight and turned to fully face me.
"Ray never wanted a mate. From the moment he shifted fkr the first time, mating proposals have been coming in from many packs around the world,"She said and i almost laughed.
How ridiculous. No wonder Ray was so full of himself. He probably thought he was the Goddess's best gift to wolves.
Elsa's voice hardened a bit.
"So why did he choose to mate with you?"
Because Ray was sick in the head, crazy alpha whose aim was to break me.
But I didn't tell her that.
Instead, I lifted my eyebrow.
"Since you're so close to him,Elsa, why don't you ask him yourself?"
Elsa's eyes widened a bit, her lips tightened into a frown. Then fasted than I could blink my eyes, her expression changed and she gave me a sweet smile.
"I like you, Isabel."She said "let's be friends."
It was official now. The Throneblood pack was made of mentally unstable wolves.
"I'll pass,"I said, shifting my attention back to the fight.
