ISABEL
“You can't do that,” I said, but even as I spoke, I knew it was all a lie. My father would sacrifice anything mad anyone to get what he wants.
My father crouched down to my height and took my chin in his hand, his amber eyes cold and without any emotions.
“I will tie you to the f*****g altar if that's what would get me this alliance,” he said roughly. “If you care about these people, keep whatever happened between you and Ray a secret until this alliance is concluded.”
Then he straightened and walked out of the room. Guards that hadn't been there when I arrived the room this morning closed the doors as he left.
There were more guards outside today than he'd ever had watching me before.
Micah was at my side in seconds, her arms around me and her eyes filled with worry.
“Isabel? Isabel, what's the matter?”
The sight of Micah's face pinched with concern made me cry for the first time in so many years.
“I made a horrible mistake,Micah… a terrible one.”
I should've tried running away last night, even though the pack security was tight I would've still been caught
Now it was too late. I was trapped in my own game.
Micah cupped my cheeks softly, her kind brown eyes holding mine.
“i don't know what happened between you and Jonah, but if you don't want to mate with him,you shouldn't stay in this pack any longer. Your father is just bluffing.”
That was a big lie and we both knew it.
While growing up, Micah was the only one who stood by me before I'd became friends with Rachel, who I couldn't think about without losing my calm.
Micah had always wanted tye best for me, and I knew she'd give her life up just to keep me safe. I never met my biological mother, so Micha was tye closest thing to aother to me.
“Thank you, Micha.” I hugged her, burying myself in her chest as I cried.
“Isabel.” Micah ran her fingers down my back trying to comfort me like I was still the little girl who would com eto her with tears and wounds.
It was my duty to protect her now, as well as Vera and Sara whose only fault was to be assigned to me.
I pulled away from Micah, pushing myself to my feet despite the pain that raced through me.
“I want you to help k get ready for my wedding.” My voice came out stronger than I expected.
“Isabel.” Micah's voice was panicked, but I didn't allow myself look at her.
“Please. We don't have much time,” I said.
I didn't shed any tear as my maids escorted me to the bathroom and scrubbed my body clean. I was completely weak as they dressed me up, applied my makeup, and did my hair.
I felt dead inside me. My wolf,Lala was curled into her protection cocoon. What type of mating was this going to be.
The one which slowly but definitely my mate would stifle me and I would have to out on a smile and ignore his w*****g around while I give him heirs.
My nails dug into my soft flesh of my palm so hard that they drew blood, but the wounds closed almost immediately, still, the pain was the only thing keeping me sane.
I was doing this to save Micah. I couldn't falter.
Finally, we were done.
I didn't look like a bride being forced to the alter. My dark hair was pulled away from my face and plaited down my back in soft waves, and my amber dress highlighted my amber eyes that looked just like my father's.
Micah pressed a soft kiss on my forehead and took my hand. I almost broke down in tears, but a knock on the door brought us back to reality.
Jonah walked into the room without waiting gir my permission to enter.
“I would like to have some privacy with my mate,” he said to the ladies. Micah seemed like she was about to argue with him, but I caught her eye and gave her a nod.
Micah hesitated for a bit, but then after squeezing my hand, she left with Vera and Sara , and I was all alone with Jonah.
“You're Soo beautiful.” Jonah said in an almost amazed tone.
I stood up from my dressing table to face him.
He looked good. His long black hair, so similar to his brother's, was pulled back from his face. With his cloth perfectly tailored to him, he struck a majestic pose but caring figure.
Lala bared her cannones at him mentally, and I did my best to remind her that if I ripped his face, my father would kill Micah.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
Jonah smiled hesitantly, his mask of niceness that I'd foolishly fallen for back in place.
“I'm glad you decide to give us a second chance,” he said softly, and I almost snorted.
Give us a second chance?
What in the world had he smoked that had made him to forget that he'd threatened me into staying engaged to him?
Jonah closed the distance between us amd took my hands in his, a slight quiver running through him and… are those tears I see in his eyes?
“I know that an apology isn't going to be enough, but I'm sorry for what happened last night. I wasn't in my right state of mind.”
Jonah hadn't been drunk yesterday. I would have smelled it on him while he almost choked me to death.
He had been thinking perfectly fine- just like I had been when I slept with his brother.
I didn't say anything, though. I simply pulled away from his grasp.
Jonah's expression fell slightly, but then he summoned up another smile
“I love you, Isabel. I know we can build a future together. Please let forget about tye past so we can focus on our future.”
What future?
Even if he had to cheat on me,Why Rachel? I had just one friend, and he'd taken her away from me, along with any hope of a happy future.
And now he's telling me he loves me? I wanted to shout at him, but I knew the moment I talk, everything would come flying out and my fyaher would hurt Micah.
So I remained quiet.
Jonah's expression changed
“Isabel-”
“I need to finish getting ready for the wedding ceremony,” I interrupted him, before he said something that would make lala attack him.
Jonah nodded reluctantly.
“Of course, we will have lots of time to talk about this,” he said, leaning in to kiss my cheek. Then he left.
I scrubbed at my cheek with my handkerchief, fighting the urge to break something just to calm myself.
A lifetime together?
Oh Goddess, I wasn't as strong as I thought for this.
But I had no choice.
So I let the guards escort me to the sacred garden of the pack where ceremonies were held in the Bloodmoon pack.
As I walked, I found myself thinking of Ray. I could barely imagine the smirk on his face when he realized that my plans had failed terribly, and I frowned.
Thankfully, I was a bit certain he wouldn't be attending the wedding, since he'd not attended any of the other ceremonies weve held leading to this one, even though he was here to represent his and Jonah's father, Alpha Leo.
I thought of Rachel, my best friend, my ride or die, who'd betrayed me so badly, amd my chest hurt.
I'd been avoiding a thought of her because I knew I'd be shocked once the fact that our friendship was over really hit me.
How could she do that to me? I hadn't wanted to listen to Jonah's part of tye story, but I realized that I wanted Rachel to explain.
Maybe I wanted her to tell me it was all a lie and telk me that Jonah had forced himself on her, even though I'd seen her take an active part. I just wanted her to say anything at all that wouldn't mean our friendship was all a facade
I feel pathetic. I know.
We reached the clearing, which was filled with pack members from Bloodmoon pack and Throne blood pack who were here to bear witness to my union with Jonah
The who clearing fell silent as I stood next to Jonah
As I suspected, Ray was nowhere to be seen, but Rachel said in the front, wearing a shade of gold and a pleasant smile on her face as though last night had neevr happened.
I looked away, refusing to let my emotions show under my father's gaze.
Our pack’s priestess began the rites.
“There is no bond as holy as that between a mated pair, and today we are gathered to witness one..”
I couldn't even look at Jonah who was next to me. My mind was empty except for the thought that these might be the last moment of freedom. My chest ached almost painfully, but I tried to push the hurt away.
“Take a step forward,” the priestess commanded, her voice lovely as always.
We both stepped forward, and her ice blue eyes locked onto Jonah first.
“Jonah Leonard, under the sight of the. moon Goddess and her people as witnesses, do you accept Isabel Martins, daughter of Alpha Martins of Bloodmoon pack as your mate and future Luna?” She asked.
Jonah didn't hesitate a bit before nodding.
“I do.”
It felt like the world was falling on me. My breaths came to fast and my focus unsteady.
After the vows, we would mark each other and be bound to each other forever.
Those ice blue eyes shifted to me.
“Isabel Martins, under the sight of the Moon Goddess, do you accept Jonah Leonard, heir to Throneblood pack as you mate?”
My throat want dry.
“I…”I stammered. “I…”
“Stop!”
