ISABEL POV
I'd made a great mistake.
Goosebumps spread across my skin as the daze I'd been in from Ray marked me finally dispelled , and the realization that I was mated to Ray Leonard finally hit me hard.
What… what had just happened?
I came to a complete stop in the hallway - or at least I would have, if Ray's hand wasn't holding mine, dragging me along and forcing me to match his pace.
“What in the hell was that?” I demanded.
Ray kept walking without as much as a glance at me.
“Ray?” I asked, trying to free my hand from his. But I couldn't do that without injuring my wrist.
I tried and failed to stop from moving, my feet almost made me trip over as Ray continued to pull me along with seemingly no effort.
“You can't do something like that and then proceed to ignore me!” I growled, my anger growing.
But we were already in front of my room, where Micah was waiting, her face strained with worry.
“Look after her until I'm back.”
Then those cold eyes of his shifted to me, a silent but serious warning in them.
“Don't even dare think about leaving.”
My lips parted in decent resentment, but before I could argue, Ray was gone.
I didn't know if I spent hours or minutes sitting in the room with Micah, my thoughts rocketed out of control. The only information she had was that Ray had ordered her to wait here for us before he'd marked me.
I needed to know what exactly was happening.
Why had Ray marked me? Was the alliance still going on? What was my father going to do about this new turn of things? Would he still hurt Micah?
I stood up from the bed, and Micah straightened.
“Isabel,” she said nervously. “Ray might still be resolving the issue of your… unexpected mating with your father and Jonah. Maybe it's best you wait for him to return.”
Micah had a point, but if I stayed in this room one minute longer, I would lose my mind.
“I can't Micah.” I shook my head. “I refuse to sit in this room while some men take decisions about my future.”
Micah let out a long sigh.
“It's fine, but please be careful,” she said, her kind eyes full of worry. “Especially with your father.”
My heart tightened. I didn't want to think about what my father would do to me if Jonah decide to call off the alliance.
“I'll be fine, Micah. Don't worry.”
But as I left the room, I knew that was a big lie.
I wasn't sure I was ecer going to be fine ever again - not after getting mated to Ray, a man who made me feel the opposite of fine.
At the thought of him, hisark on my neck sting, sending sensation down my spine. Lala prinked in my head.
I subdued my wolf, fight back a growl of annoyance.
I hated this. I hated that I was now irrevocably tied to Ray and he-
I stopped in my tracks as the last person I expected to see appeared right in front of me.
“Jonah,” I breathed.
Jonah stared ate, his hazel eyes full of rage. His hair hung limp, free from it's earlier silk ponytail.
He took a frightening step towards me, a growl ripping from my throat.
“Did you really do it?” He bit out. “Answer me Isabel.”
The boldness of this man.
“Don't you dare take that time on me.” I snapped, squaring him off. “Don't act like you have the right to be angry at me after you betrayed me.”
Jonah sucked in a deep breath, those hazel eyes flashing with so much pain that, for a moment, I was almost feeling pity.
“So you slept with my brother to get back at me?”
I didn't answer. I found thay I couldn't.
Maybe it was because, in hindsight, I realized I wasn't happy of my decision to ne with Ray.
By tryy to break up my engagement and get back at Jonah, I'd stopped just as low as he had too. I should've found another way, instead of being blinded by my anger and hurt.
“For your own sake, I broke things off with Rachel.” Jonah's voice was calm, his words laced with hurt. “Despite the fact that I started seeing her before our engagement, the moment things got serious between us, I ended everything with her “
What?
A sudden cold swept through me. Jonah and I got engaged two years ago, shortly after I turned Twenty one.
He'd been with Rachel that long? How many loes would I find out about the person I'd thought was my best friend?
“My actions last night can't be accounted for,” Jonah said, his gaze turning slightly inward as his hands formed fist at his sides.
“I was tense, so I took a bit of Elixir, and when Rachel came over… I made a mistake. Many mistakes.”
Due to wolves high metabolism, there weren't many substances that could harm us,but Elixir was one of them. I'd heard the higher the dose was enough to kill a wolf.
It was strictly purchased, but with enough money, anything could be gotten…and the Leonard jad a lot of money.
Last night I hadn't smelled anything like that on Jonah, so I'd be very sure he wasn't drunk, but now, what was he even saying?
“Once the drug had wore off, I came to see you. To ask for your forgiveness.” Jonah met my gaze once more, his eyes glittering with tears. “ I was honestly out of my mind, Isabel. What's your own excuse?”
Jonah's highness last night didn't change the fact that he betrayed me, cheated on me. Nor did it change the fact that he never told me his relationship with Rachel.
So what was this uncomfortable feeling growing within me?
“None of this matters any longer,” I said before turning away from him. “You're now mated and so am I.”
I tried to move around Jonah, but he lunged forward and backed me up against the wall.
“It matters to me. You chose my brother.” The softness in Jonah's gaze was gone, and his words were hard and rough. “I’ll never forgive you for what you've done Isabel.”
I opened my mouth to speak, but the words died in my throat when the air in the hallway shifted, making the hairs on my body stand.
“Get you hands of my mate Jonah.”
Jonah paused, his gaze lingering on me before he turned to face his brother.
Ray stood a few feet away, somehow even more threatening than usual with that cruel set to his lips and deadly expression on his face.
If I thought Jonah was angry before, it wasn't compared to his emotions now. Jonah's anger was so solid I could feel it against my skin.
“Stealing your brother's mate during his mating ceremony?” He snipped, his words dripping with venom. “ Just when I thought you couldn't stooper lower brother.”
Ray lookee down at his brother, then dismissed him without stooping to give him an answer.
“Come, Isabel.” He commanded.
I wanted nothing more than to curse him and walk in the opposite direction, but I felt responsible for all this.
In my anger last night,I had not considered my how my plan would shake the relationship between two brothers that was already unstable due to the Alpha position.
So I stepped away from Jonah and walked towards Ray, Jonah didn't try to stop us, but I knew all this was very much far from over.
