“What is happening to us?” I had to ask.
“Us?” He asked as though the word should not be used between him and me.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he added.
I broke the silence by asking him what was happening to us. Ever since we’ve been in the car, he hasn’t said a word to me, but he has been speaking to the driver. If Gideon were here with us, he would have spoken to him.
