CHAPTER 18
They had me complete a questionnaire upon checking in. The purpose was to assess my current state of mind. I made sure my answers showed a significant but believable improvement.
Dr. Steinfeld greeted me with a handshake, then looked me up and down. "I understand you had a little issue since our last meeting."
"Yeah, I guess I misunderstood the prescription instructions."
"I see. And how do you feel now?"
"Honestly, doc, I am doing much better…I can't really tell you what happened. When I left here last time, I felt better. Unfortunately, Lt. Gomez needed to leave. A wave of self-pity hit me, and I began to drink—excessively."
"You know you're not supposed to consume alcohol when you're on this medicine."
"Yes. I couldn’t help myself. I wanted to drown my troubles."
