The smell of antiseptic was overwhelming. I opened my eyes to a stark white ceiling, and when I turned my head I met Liam's bloodshot stare. "Mia, you're awake..." He gripped my hand as though he were afraid I would slip away the next second. My body felt strangely light. The burning in my veins was gone. I realized it was probably terminal lucidity, and the words came out before I could stop them. "So I really am dying..." Liam was crying. He shook his head, choking.
