Chapter 4

Beep. Beep. The pager beeped the second she thought of sitting down on the couch in staff room. Sighing she rushed towards the ER to get to know the situation. Reaching there she saw a man injured due to bullet wound and multiple knife injuries. Quickly rushing to his aid Ariel got to work. "Start the blood transfusion with O negative. And check for his blood type and order two liters of it. Quick." "On it." The colleague replied.  Ariel ordered the other resident colleague of her. Looking at the injuries she could see that the bullet had pierced his arm and was lodged there also the knife had sliced his thigh and abdomen causing severe bleeding from his femoral artery. Ordering more blood and asking for his vitals she got to work firstly by stopping the blood from his leg and then moving towards the bullet wound.  Stitching the man and ensuring that his vitals were normal she moved him to the surgery ward to let the surgeons look at him thoroughly. Rubbing her tensed shoulders she looked at the wall clock. It was 3 am that meant she had been here for one hour. She was on call resident in the ER tonight so of course it was hectic. She then moved to the vending machine to get chocolate and some soda. She did not like drinking coffee. People looked at her weirdly but she could just not stomach it. Even during medical college she used to survive on soda and chocolates when she had to prepare for tests or pull all-nighters.  Sighing she sat on the nearby chair to eat her late night snack. Tonight she was sure she would not be getting any rest.  Finally her shift finished at 9 in the morning. It was supposed to finish at 7 but as usual the ER ward was full of patients in the early morning and she could not abandon her patients. Now, walking towards her house she knew she was going to sleep the whole day. Bed. Her soft warm bed that was what she craved right now. Ariel opened the door of her dorm and went straight to her bedroom. Plopping on bed she kicked off her shoes and rested for a while. She had already showered and changed in the hospital so now she curled herself on the bed, pulling the comforter over her and was closing her eyes when her eyes landed on the necklace and the luckenbooth. Picking it up and holding them in her hand she continued to stare. "This will bring love to you." She repeated the old man's words aloud. "Love?" She scoffed. "Where do I find this love when I don't even have time for myself." She shook her head. Absentmindedly she rubbed the surface of the duo and then fell asleep. Jolting awake she gasped and rubbed her eyes. Where was she? She looked at her surroundings and saw the sun coming up from the horizon through the large window. Getting up from the bed she waited for a while for the sensations to return to her legs and then slowly stood up. Her body protested in pain in response to the stretching. She walked towards the window and let out a deep breath.  She tried remembering something. She had fallen asleep in her bed holding the necklace and luckenbooth and then....blank. Her mind came up blank. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. She then remembered waking up in the hall surrounded by strange people and then meeting that hulk of a man in her second awakening but nothing other than that.  She heard the door opening and turned around. She saw a woman entering the room. The woman gasped seeing her awake.  "What are you doing up, lass? You need to rest." She spoke in Gaelic. Ariel frowned at her. She had studied Gaelic because of her Scottish ancestry. "I am tired of staying in bed. I don't want to stay there anymore." She replied. "Who are you?" "I am Ava MacNiell." "Hello Ava I am Ariel Brown. Dr. Ariel Brown." "Dok... what?" "Doctor. Do you not know what a doctor is?" Ariel frowned at her. "No I don't." Ava replied. And then as an after thought she said, "Here, take this broth. You haven't eaten in two days and you must be starving by now." She smiled. Ariel noticed her eyes crinkled when she smiled. She looked at what she was holding. It looked like a trencher she had once seen in the museum showcasing 13th century artifacts. Pursing her lips she took the trencher from her outstretched hands and put it in a nearby table. Food was the last thing on her mind. She had to figure out where was she. "I'll inform the laird that you are awake and he will pay you a visit." Ava said and then immediately left.  Staring at her retreating back Ariel tried to find what had happened and where in the world was she? After a few minutes of pacing and still coming up blank she was near to ripping her hair out of her scalp. What was this place. The man had said it was Scotland. But how could she come from England to Scotland while sleeping on her bed. Did she go through teleportation? Ariel smiled satirically at her thought. Then the door opened again and in walked the man from before. He is so big she thought. He was frowning at her. No not at her but her clothes. She looked down and was still wearing her pajamas in which she had slept in her bed.  "How do you feel today Ariel?" Trying to remember his name she finally said, "Better than I deserve Aiden." "Did you not eat anything." "Food is really not on my mind right now however, I would like to know what place is this?" She asked frustratingly. "I told you this is..." He was cut off by her,"Yes yes I know this is Scotland but.... wait what year is it?" She asked impatiently. Narrowing his eyes at her interruption he stared mutinously at her. "What year is it?" She again asked. "1202" came his short reply.  "What!!!!" She screamed.  Aiden winced at her shriek and stared at the beautiful creature in front of him. By God she was beautiful. Her startling green eyes were shooting sparks as of this moment and she had a very generous mouth that was plump like berries. He felt the stirrings in his body. Cursing at himself for his lack of control he stared at her clothes. They were the strangest clothes she had seen on a woman. What were they, he briefly wondered and then shaking his head he looked at her and listened to her rambling. "......in 1202?? 1202? How... why... I mean .....possible??" The lass was touched in the head, he concluded. Trying to stop her talking because her talk was giving him a headache. "Lass listen." he interrupted but she continued rambling. ".....from 2020 to 1200? How... I mean...." Finally exhausted she slumped on the floor and sat cross legged in deep thought. By God the lass was exasperating, he thought again. Ariel then lifted her head and stared at him as if he held all the answers to her questions.       (A/N) Here is another chapter. Hope you like it. I know its slow but please bear with me.
