“What are you doing?” He asked, his tone flat yet shaken. I could practically feel the same confusion he was feeling, but I wasn’t sure if it was due to my sudden touch or something else entirely.
His eyes not once moved to the rest of my body like before, but stayed fixated on mine, and suddenly, with our gazes locked, our bodies just inches from one another, my voice seemed to be stuck in my throat. My reddened cheeks showed my own shock even more.
Blake opened his mouth to speak again, lowering his eyes, but before a word could leave him I quickly pushed past him, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around myself leaving the restroom still wet.
As I made my way out the scent of eggs and bacon invaded my nose as the eucalyptus and lavender were left behind.
Not knowing where else to go, I quickly made my way through the open door just a little ways passed the bathroom. I walked in, shivering slightly as the water on my skin chilled with the cool air of the rest of the house.
Looking around at my surroundings, the dim red light that illuminated the bedroom made it all feel eerie in a sense. The two beds on opposite sides of the rooms told me this must be their room. As I sighed, leaning my head back against the door, I shimmied slightly in my towel trying to dry myself off without stripping again completely before hearing rustling coming from the open closet just to my right.
My eyes widened as Kane marched out, just having taken off his shirt and slipping on a new one. He gracefully pulled the dark fabric over his head, not realizing I was there yet until he pulled it down, covering up his toned stomach and the tattoos that covering his lower abdomen.
Just as it was with Blake moments ago, I couldn’t keep my eyes from traveling. It was hard not to look despite them being my captors, they were divine, almost godly if I were being honest.
“You’re dripping all over the floor, little one.” Kane hummed, clearing his throat slightly to grab my attention.
He had that same smirk as Blake.
Jeez, they really were brothers.
“You should’ve dried off before leaving the restroom.” He practically began scolding me, shaking his head as he walked over to the small dresser that sat in the middle of his side of the room. Rummaging through it, he pulled out a pair of black briefs, then moved down a drawer, retrieving a basic black tee that was just a couple of sizes too big.
“I would’ve…” I retorted, trying to keep that tough persona as his gentle demeanor had my mind more at ease than this morning. “But your brother.. Blake, I think his name is.” I continued, tightening the towel around my chest as I ran my fingers through my wet hair then shivering slightly as droplets of cold water fell on my shoulders and chest.
Kane clicked his tongue, shaking his head, knowing his brother and his deeds like the back of his hand.
“I told him to leave you alone.” He muttered, laying the clothes he grabbed you out on his bed. “That you just needed time to adjust to us, but of course, he thinks with his dick.”
My eyes widened again at his implication, instantly I frantically shook my head.
“No! No, he didn’t do anything to me…” I pursed my lips, smacking lips slightly as I sighed. “Well, he definitely saw my t**s and took his time looking that’s for sure.” As I spoke I let out a slight chuckle, I shocked myself with how casual I was being but it truthfully it was better than yelling again.
My mind and soul were exhausted from the high emotions that infected my life since the night before.
Before Kane could reply, I couldn’t help but continue my yapping. “I’m the one that went too far.”
Kane’s eyes widened larger than mine had.
“You what?” His voice seemed lower than before, almost as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing as lewd thoughts of what might’ve happened filled is mind.
I offered him a soft smile, chuckling slightly again as I shook my head. Giving him an almost silent reassurance that nothing like that happened whatsoever.
“I just…” I looked down, grasping my towel tightly again. “I noticed these scars all over his chest and back while he was rinsing. His eyes were closed so he didn’t know I saw…” Still looking down, “When he turned to wash the soap from his back, I reached out and sorta touched one.”
Kane's gaze softens to an almost saddened appearance. He nervously straightened out the clothes again.
It was strange, seeing the men who effortlessly kidnapped someone be so soft.
“You should dry off, Winter.” He muttered, chewing on his inner cheek a bit before letting out a sigh. “You’ll catch a cold.” Making his way over to me, I couldn’t help but flinch slightly. Kane reached out for me, grasping my shoulders so delicately as he moved me away from the door. His gaze loomed over me, “That’ll be a story for another day okay?” He seemed to have been reading my mind, hearing the curiosity that dripped from my little confession. Motioning over to the bed, “Change into those, Blake and I will get you stuff that’s more fitting eventually, but for now, you can borrow from mine. Okay?”
Peering up at the tall man before me, I took in his features.
He was handsome, in a different way than his brother though.
His jaw was sharp, his lips were slightly less full than his brother's. He had longer hair that he had tied back unlike his brother's buzzcut. His complexion was slightly deeper than my own, and his eyes seemed to effortlessly draw me in.
I needed to find a way home, now.
Being here, with these men, for longer than I had to be would be a bad idea.
I gently nodded, watching intently yet not flinching this time as Kane leaned in slightly.
Giving me a soft peck on the forehead before leaving me alone in the room.
As the sound of his footsteps getting further rang through my ears, I dropped down to the floor.
My head in my hands as I rocked myself slightly.
The coldness I felt turned to a slight chill as my body air-dried.
“Fuck..” I murmured in a mousy cry.
I was so painfully confused.
I remembered as I laid on their couch last night, pulling the blanket Kane silently left for me over myself. I laid there, swearing and promising I would leave no matter what, even if it meant mine or their lives. But now, just spending a few more hours with them, being in their presence despite the tense start to the morning, and seeing a smidge of their vulnerabilities, the intense empathy, and love I had for people, no matter if they were strangers or not, had my mind in a permanent state of delirium.
What if this is all a facade they’re putting on?
I thought to myself as I stayed seated on the floor.
What if they’re just trying to get me to let my guard down?
As I allowed my mind to wander, knocking on the door pulled me out of my inner hell.
“Breakfast is ready.” Blake’s voice emanated through the door. His tone was flat now, and I was more than sure it was because of the shower incident. “Kane said to come eat while it’s hot.”
Without another word, I could hear him leaving as I stood from my spot.
Despite the little heated exchange we had this morning, and despite how badly I would like to slap the arrogance out of him, I did feel bad.
Moving over to the bed, I quickly dried off what was left of the dampness, rustling the towel through my hair to dry it just a tad more too.
I stood there, naked, feeling vulnerable again as I looked around their room. It had been forever since I was anywhere other than mine or Lucas’ houses, let alone naked.
With a sigh, I grabbed the briefs he left me. Bringing them up, pinching each side, I scrunched my nose, hoping that they would fit.
Sliding them on, the waistband dug slightly into my hips but it wasn’t too terrible. Adjusting the legs, I scrunched them up to shorten their length and accentuate my form a bit better before pulling on the shirt.
Despite the clothing, I couldn’t help but still feel so exposed. With no bra or panties underneath, the tightness of the briefs on my ass and thighs, then the way the shirt fell over my breasts. It felt like I might as well still be naked.
With a deep breath, I made my way out of the safety of the bedroom.
Taking in my surroundings more now as the bright sunlight came in, lighting up the small hallway slightly as it brightened the living room and kitchen.
It wasn’t terrible by all means, for a couple of rogues that is. Though it was a little run down, the paint was peeling slightly, and there were a couple of holes in the walls, but it wasn’t bad. Not in the way I always heard of how rogues lived at least.
Making my way into the kitchen, I wrapped my arms across my chest, covering them as best as I could as I came up behind the two men.
I watched as Blake hurriedly served himself, almost as if he were completely starving, taking nearly a fistful of bacon onto his plate as Kane served him four sunny-side-up eggs.
As he moved over to the countertop to enjoy his meal, his eyes rose from his food and onto me. I could instantly see the slight frustration yet need in his gaze.
I moved to speak, but Kane interjected, “I wasn’t sure how you liked your eggs, so I made them scrambled.” He hummed as I watched while he began fixing up my plate.
My stomach grumbled at just the smell of food, but I was nearly too anxious to eat now with Blake’s dagger-like stare burning into me.
Nodding my head, “That’s fine..” I replied, still unsure if I’d eat or not.
Filling the rest of my plate with some toast and a couple slices of bacon, he swiftly placed my plate besides Blake.
“I know you’re probably starving so I can make you extra if you need.” He softly added in, fixing up his own meal. “One thing about us, well me, I like for us to eat like a family. We eat together always.”
His words nearly reminded me of my mom’s. She had always been so adamant about us eating at the table together ever since I was a small child because she insisted it’d deepen the bonds we had together. Even when Lucas or friends would come over, she had to have them join us at the table.
It’d only been a day, but I missed her already.
Blake chuckled at his brother. Shaking his head as his attention returned to his food.
“We need to get a TV in here or something then.” He retorted with a full mouth, cutting at an egg before shoveling the slice into his mouth.
Walking over beside him, I took a seat on the wobbly wooden stool and stared down at my food.
I gently picked at it, only taking small bites at a time while stabbing at it with my fork.
“No TVs,” Kane replied in between his chewing. He placed himself right across from the two of us. “TVs are a distraction.”
I couldn’t help but smirk at his statement.
Nodding, I took another bite of my eggs, swallowing the bit of food, “My dad used to say the same thing.”
The men looked up from their plates, almost shocked that I joined in on the conversation.
Blake shook his head, taking another bite of food.
While Kane nodded, “Wise man, your dad.” He hummed, fidgeting with his fork. As I watched him, I could practically see the gears in his head turning as he thought of what to say next.
But I didn’t allow another word from him as I turned to Blake.
I had to apologize, despite the circumstances, I didn’t want to be like them and cross boundaries. It wasn’t in my blood to hurt people, even if it were unintentional.
“Blake.. I’m so-” Before I could finish, the man looked up from his plate, despite us being seated he still felt so much taller than me.
“It’s cool.” He instantly replied, waving his hand slightly as he shook his head. “We’ll call it even since I pretty much tried getting you to fight me this morning.” He chuckled again, though he seemed so sure of himself. I couldn’t help my feelings, but I allowed things to be.
“Pfft, just that?” Kane chuckled, smiling brightly now as he seemed to be enjoying his morning even more so now. Raising a brow, he looked at me then to his brother, “Because I could think of plenty of other things she has to get even with us about.”
