He leaned forward, his eyes intense. “I’m offering you soldiers. My warriors are well-trained and loyal. With our combined forces, we can put an end to Roman’s tyranny once and for all.”
The offer was tempting. Having additional soldiers could tip the balance of power in our favor, especially if things escalated with Roman. However, I was cautious about accepting help from someone whose motives might not align with mine.
“How can I trust you?” I asked. “How do I know you won’t turn against me once Roman is dealt with?”
He raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile on his lips. “You don’t. Trust is earned, not given. But I can assure you, my grievances with Roman run deep. I have no interest in turning against a potential ally.”
