Chapter 11: The First Strike

523 Words
Abigail’s POV The world blurred as I ran, my breath steady, my muscles coiled with purpose. The hunt had begun. Lucian and I led the first wave, our warriors moving like shadows through the trees. The fortress loomed in the distance, barely visible through the mist, but I could already feel the power pulsing from within. Gideon was waiting. But so were we. Silent Killers Zane and Orion moved ahead, cutting down sentries before they could sound the alarm. Elara and Ivy followed behind, their steps swift and silent. We had minutes before the fortress guards noticed their missing patrols. Lucian’s voice brushed against my ear. “Move fast. Strike hard.” I nodded. The first wall was in sight. Two guards stood watch, their spears gleaming in the pale morning light. They were talking and laughing, completely unaware of their deaths creeping closer. I signaled to Orion. A knife flew through the air. A choked gasp. One down. Before the other could react, I was on him. My blade slid between his ribs, swift and merciless. He gurgled, his eyes wide in shock, before the light faded from them. I lowered him to the ground. Lucian exhaled. “Efficient.” I wiped my blade. “No wasted movement.” Then I turned to the others. “Let’s move.” Breach the Gates The second wave waited in the trees, poised to strike the moment we breached the fortress. I placed my hand against the cold stone wall, feeling for weaknesses. Cracks. Loose bricks. Anything that could be used against them. Zane nudged me. “Or we could do this the easy way.” He lifted a small pouch. Explosives. I smirked. “Subtle.” Orion grinned. “No time for subtle.” Lucian grabbed my wrist, pulling me back just as Zane planted the charge. A heartbeat later BOOM. The explosion shattered the silence, sending shockwaves through the fortress. Shouts erupted from inside. Confusion. Fear. Panic. And then We struck. Chaos Unleashed I was the first through the smoke, my blade already swinging. A soldier lunged at me, and I dodged, slicing through his throat in one clean motion. Another came from the side. I ducked, driving my dagger into his gut before yanking it free. Lucian’s wolf tore through the enemy, his golden eyes burning. Zane was a blur of movement, cutting down anyone in his path. Orion’s arrows found their marks with deadly precision. Blood painted the stone. Screams filled the air. And we moved like shadows and death. The Moment of Truth The first wave of guards had fallen. The fortress doors lay in ruin. But the real fight hadn’t begun yet. From the far end of the courtyard, he emerged. Gideon Stormcall. Clad in black armor, his eyes like frozen silver. Unfazed. Unshaken. As if he had been expecting this. A slow smile curled his lips. “You finally came.” Lucian stepped forward, a low growl rumbling in his chest. But Gideon wasn’t looking at him. He was looking at me. And that was when I knew. This wasn’t going to be an easy victory.
