Chapter 11 (Sara’s P.O.V.)
We just got off the plane and got to the parking lot where the car I took from the Mason’s was waiting there. I smiled and headed towards it. ‘We are going to find out what happened before we get to the Mason’s. I will make sure of that.‘ I told Tristan. She nodded and I said "Bryan, you are going to sit in the back with Tristan. Also, we have questions.“ They got in their seats, and I began the drive to the mason’s. I have not been here in so long, but it is slowly coming back. Which roads lead where, the little shops spread out through town, places I used to hide, and all the people I used to know. I didn't notice Tristan and Bryan calling me until she practically slapped me on the back of the head. “What!?“ I said. “The questions.“ she said as she looked at me. She knew what I was thinking about, but she was right. No time to ponder, we need to know what happened to Bryan.
We were about twenty minutes away from the Mason’s house so I decided we could park here and question him. I pulled off to the side clear from traffic and put it in park. I turned the car off and sat there for a minute trying to figure out how to approach the subject. I guess there is no other way then straight out with it, so I said, “We want to know what happened and we want to know now. What happened while we were gone on the mission Bryan?“ We both turned to look at him while we waited for him to answer. “Nothing happened. I do not know what you guys are talking about.“ He decided to say. I put my hand on the door and used my which powers to put a spell on the car to make it soundproof so that no one can hear him and so that even the people the boss sent cannot hear. I set a signal scrambler so that they cannot use the bug on him to listen in. “No one can hear you and our lips are sealed. I used a scrambler specifically for the signal that the organization uses. I got it all covered so I want you to tell me the truth. Plus, I deactivated the bug they placed on you along with ours so they cannot hear you that way either.“ I told him. He looked more than surprised before Tristan said, “When we got back and saw you, we could tell right away that something had happened. You were a little more than shaken up and you were a bit more cautious than usual. We can also tell that that something concerned us as well. I want to know what happened to make you worried and frightened.“
After a little bit he let out a long sigh and say, “Ok. I guess you guys deserve the truth. Two days after you left, Boss came over to the house. He said that it was a surprise meeting and that it was urgent. I let him and the others in and the meeting began. He started with regular reports and the usual stuff you know? He spoke to me and said that the time has come for you to carry out the original purpose you came for. He told me that once the mission was done that, he would have you killed. I had asked him why and he said that once you fulfill your original mission, he would have no need for you. I told him that you are the best out of all of us and that she has yet to have an unsuccessful mission. He knew that of course so he said that that was the reason why. Not only have you surpassed everyone here but if you were to turn then no one could stop you. Also, that since you have the potential to surpass him, resulting in him losing his power, he would be left with nothing. He also wanted me to get rid of Tristan as well because she would know something was up and when she knew that you were gone, and she would try to dig up information. He knew that you would find something and that you would get revenge. But I can't do that. I can't lose you guys and I just can't bring myself to kill you guys. Especially you Tristan. I brought you up I care for you like my own daughter so I can't do that. And Alex, though I didn't like you in the beginning when I was training you, you kind of grew on me. He said that if I didn't do it, he would have me killed along with you two. I cannot go through with that. I didn't want you two to know because I didn't want you to worry. Boss is really dangerous. You both need to be careful on how you do things. I don't want to lose you guys.“ He was really shaken up by the end and I ended up at a loss for words. Me and Tristan were speechless. To be honest I kind of expected there to be a problem but not one as big as this. “Well, they won’t get us. And we will guard you so you should have faith in us. We can talk more about this later. We need time to think and not only that we also have places to be. So how about we go meet a few people and then go home to rest?“ I suggested. They nodded and I turned back around while I retracted the spells I cast.
I turned the car back on and drove the last twenty minutes to the Mason’s. I pulled down the driveway and parked the car where it was before I took it. “Are you sure that they still live here? “Bryan asked as we got out of the car.“ I may have looked at the Mason’s spending records to see if they had moved, and they never did.“ I answered him. We walked up to the door, and I hesitated before I knocked. ‘Holy s**t. I am actually gonna see them. Why am I so nervous? Whatever let’s just do this.‘ I talked myself into it before I could turn away and knocked on the door. I stepped away and straightened my shirt while I fidgeted with my hands. A moment later the door opened and there stood Mrs. Mason. She looked at me for a minute before she quickly hugged me. I hugged her back and let us just say she was not the only one tearing up. “Where have you been, I have been so worried about you! I thought you died or something! What have you been doing and what happened! Ryan! Ben! Get over here!“ She yelled and cried at the same time. It was then she noticed Bryan and Tristan. “Oh, I am so sorry, where are my manners. My name is Lilly, what’s yours?” she asked with a small smile. At that time Ben and Ryan walked through the door. They were surprised as well, and Ben was the first to reach me. I have never been hugged so tight in my life. “Let’s all go inside and talk this out, there is a lot to discuss.“ Ryan said. “Yes, and before I forget, these are the people that took me in after I left. Uncle Bryan and my sister Tristan.“ I said as I introduced them. Bryan was a little surprised with the introduction, but he hid it and showed a little pride to the Mason’s. They all shook hands and then we headed inside so we could talk and have a little reunion.
Once we got situated on the couch Ben spoke first as he handed everyone drinks and asked me, “So I have a lot of questions, but I guess we’ll do one at a time. So how did you come across Bryan and Tristan?“ Before I spoke, I quickly put up some spells and then I said, “Well to be honest I passed out in a barn a long way away from here. When I woke up, I was on a couch at their place and, ……. I never left. I was scared when I woke up though. I didn't know what happened. Then Tristan explained to me where they found me, so I just ended up staying with them.“ He nodded in understanding and then asked me, “How are you holding up?“ I sighed before I said, “Okay, I guess. I do remember most of what happened. After I left, did the police say anything? What happened after I left?“ “Um… well, when the police got notified and got to your house, they found your parents in their room. They were shot, … I don't know what happened, and neither do the cops. After a few months with no leads or anything, the case went cold. I tried to find out what happened to your brothers, but the police thought they were taken along with you. They don't know about the letter that you left, and they couldn't find the boys either. I am so sorry Sarah, did the boys go with you, do you remember what happened to them?“ Lilly asked me. “Well, it’s kind of hard not to remember. The boys ran towards the woods after I told them to, then they screamed a couple seconds later, and I ran away after that. I thought they died and that's why they screamed. The police didn't find them.“ I said to her. She shook her head and I started to think about what might have happened to them. ‘So, the police know nothing, well, that's reassuring.‘ Note the sarcasm. I wish that there was something. I wonder if they cleaned it up.‘ I thought and asked Lilly, “Did they clean the house up? Or do anything with the house for that matter?“ “Well, they did clean it up a bit, but I don't know about what they did otherwise. Speaking of houses, where are you going to stay while you are in town? Do you have everything you need?“ She asked me. “Actually, we are going to stay in the house. It has been a while and I would not mind seeing if anything’s changed. It might bring up memories but it’s nothing I can't handle. Right?“ I said. Lilly just smiled a little and looked at me with sympathy. I don’t like that look of sympathy. I hate it when people look at me like they are sorry for what I went through or like they are sorry that they couldn’t help me. It annoys the s**t out of me, but I won’t say anything to her cause she doesn’t need to know. But there was something else besides relief and sympathy in her gaze. It looked like she was…. Proud? I don’t know why but I guess I will leave it be. “So, about the window and the car, you don’t have to worry. We forgive you and we are glad that you brought it back. Honestly it looks better then when you borrowed it.“ she said. I nodded my head and said, "I may have updated it a bit." with a small smile as we started talking about random things to pass the time by.
I looked at my watch and said, “I am terribly sorry, but we have to get to the house, it’s almost 6:30 and we still have to unpack and everything.“ They all nodded in understanding and after we said our goodbyes Ben said that he would walk us out to the car. Once we got to the car, I said my goodbyes to Ben and when we broke apart, he held a piece of paper out to me. “What’s this?“ I asked him to hope he wasn't trying to hook up with me as I took it. “It has our numbers on it. I want you to text me when you can so we can talk more. Okay?“ he said. I nodded and let out a little sigh of relief as I got in the driver seat. It appears that that’s not what he wants so I am a bit happy. Before I pulled away, I turned to Ben who is now standing at the front door with his parents and waved bye one last time. They waved back and I drove away out of the driveway and headed to where we are staying at, my old house.
