“Seren,” he whispers between kisses, his voice a husky caress. “You belong by my side. We can build a future together.” His promises wash over me, each word a brushstroke painting a picture of a life together, but I’m not sure he means it. I try once again to pull back, but a flicker of panic crosses his face. “Seren, wait,” he pleads, his voice cracking. “Don’t you get it? I can’t lose you.” Soon, his touch deepens, sending a jolt of confusion through me. It’s gentler this time, but the sudden sweetness feels forced.
