The hand left her mouth. Lilith spun around.
Zane leaned against the closed door behind them. The room looked like storage. Moonlight filtered through a narrow window, painting silver across one side of his face while leaving the rest hidden in shadow.
For a second, neither of them spoke.
Then Lilith crossed her arms. "You nearly gave me a heart attack."
"You should be harder to sneak up on."
"You grabbed me from the dark."
"You were distracted."
"I was gathering information."
His eyebrows lifted. "That's what you’re calling it?"
Lilith ignored that. "How did you know I was there?"
A faint smile touched the corner of his mouth. "I knew before you even reached the hallway."
That answer somehow irritated her even more. "That's impossible."
"It really isn't."
She opened her mout
