An Emergency Landing

1728 Words
Sylvi POV I grab my smoothie and walk out the front door of the Alpha quarters. I am on the second floor landing of the Pack House. The Alpha quarters makes up the Second and Third floor of the Pack House's East Wing. Later in the morning the sun is peaking through the glass of the Lodge style Pack House. I smile as I look down at the different people walking around and preparing for the day. Other students headed to school. A deep breath and smelling the heat of the wood stoves we use to heat the building and the warm cedar wood logs. The rich smell of home. "Hey daydreamer! We have to go girl!" Alicia runs across the landing to me, grabbing my arm and dragging me downstairs. "I'm coming, I'm just enjoying the morning." I reply to her with a bright smile. As we reach the bottom of the stairs where Eric, Jordan, Peter, and Emily are waiting for us, a strong musky odor fills the entryway. Unclean rogues always smell to a werewolf that has a Pack. If given asylum they still have an unpleasant scent but not this. This was a new rogue to our community. I look around to find the source and in no time I see it, or her. She couldn't have been more than 10 and was so skinny I could hardly believe she was alive. She was sitting in the first floor lounge in one of our guest armchairs which made her look even smaller. I see Ms. Betty is talking to her and gives her a cup of tea. Ms. Betty always had the best tastes when it came to what a person needed to eat or drink. I walk up to them. "Hi there little one, my name is Sylvi, what's yours?" I ask her softly. I mindlink Ms. Betty at the same time. "What's the story?" I ask her in our mindlink. "Ms. Sylvi, she came with the latest refugees. Seems to have been orphaned. They were a full pack that was wiped out and then turned rogue by the winning pack for being weak apparently. There is this girl and eight others. The rest were all elderly and a couple have dementia. They are all at the hospital being looked after, the Alpha wanted her brought to the Pack House so he could decide what to do." she answered back. "My name is Jane." the little girls squeaked up at me after a long pause. I could see she was afraid of all the new people and being alone. "Well Jane, it is nice to meet you. Ms Betty here is a very nice lady and is going to take good care of you okay?" I place my hand on her shoulder causing her to flinch, but my touch seems to make her feel safe. "I'll be back to check on you this afternoon. Would that be okay with you?" I ask her gently. She nods and sips her tea. Who knows how long they were out on their own. Only nine elderly and children surviving a total Pack defeat. As soon as the Hunters were defeated the packs found every excuse to go to war with one another for power. As long as they continued to forget about us they could all go to h**l for all I care. No child should be made to suffer like the hundreds of children we have given asylum to. I head back to the front door and look up to see my father staring down at me. "Good job Alpha" he says in mindlink. I roll my eyes. "She is a child not a lesson". I tell him. "Those aren't mutually exclusive snowflake. Now I believe you were headed to your ride before that happened." He said smiling. I gasp as I suddenly realize someone was out front honking. I run out the front door and apologize to the guys as I climb in the back and we drive off to school. The high school was in town just a short drive from the pack house. Most of our pack members and the Rogues we have given asylum to live here with a few spread out throughout our territory. There are a few odd humans here and there but they are all married to or otherwise related to wolerewolves and are aware of us. We are off the main roads and so only a few people ever actually come across our community. There are about 6,000 total in our territory with about 5,000 living in the town. The high school was an old brick and stone two-story building with faux gothic architecture. We parked the SUV and walked into the school and split up for our classes. I had just sat down for my first class, Intermediate French, when suddenly... BLACK Damian POV "Sir, we have to land, we are having oil pressure fluctuations in the right wing and we can't risk your safety." The pilot said to me over the intercom. All because of a d**n goose. We had hit it taking off from Chicago, it seemed fine, but like any private jet, as soon as you think you are fine is when it breaks. We landed at the nearest airport, near to us, far from everything else it seemed. I decided to walk around the terminal for a little bit. It wasn't big but it was better than being stuck in the private lounge with no one around. My phone started buzzing in my pocket. I checked it and was surprised to see it was my father. "Dad, what are you doing, you should be resting." I say sounding more condescending than I intended. "Don't talk down to me boy! What are you doing there!?" He said seeming more worried than normal. "The plane broke down and we are getting it fixed. I'll be back by tomorrow, just rest. Your health won't stand up to you getting all worked up. What packs are around here? I can stay with someone as a 'diplomatic meeting' while I'm out here. I can't remember any packs out here." I wait for my father to reply and get nothing but silence. "Dad?" "There are no packs there. Don't leave the airport, leave as soon as you can." My father whispers to me. And immediately after that... beep. 'call ended' He hung up on me! My father was sick but he never has acted so weird. I walk over to the diner and order a coffee. A girl probably just out of high-school walks up to me and asks to take my order. "Hi, I'm Emily, what can I getcha handsome?" she asks. "Well I don't know about all that, but what's on special?" I ask back. I definitely get hit on a lot, and she is cute, but I can see when someone actually wants me or when they want me to leave a good tip. "We have fried catfish, smothered steak, or pork chops with a choice if two sides." she leans down and whispers "The pork is as tough as leather and the gravy is waaaay too salty" she winks with a smile. "Well I appreciate the honesty." I say. when she leaned down I smelled that she was a forgiven Rogue. This meant that she had to be near a pack, and that I didn't have to sleep in the Airport. "Well,I guess I'll take the catfish, let's do fries and a side of coleslaw. Also a Pepsi. And maybe a little, information." With that last part I let my eyes turn the yellow of my wolf letting her know that I also was a wolf. I'd let the Alpha know who I really was in private so not to offend him from not giving notice. She looked at me for a while with a blank expression. "You are new to the pack?" she asked with some apprehension. "Hahaha, no, I'm just stuck here and would like to see your pack. I didn't even know a pack was here until I caught your scent." I admitted honestly. She seemed a little, crestfallen? Usually in the Human world it is a relief to meet another wolf. "I'll get your order in, and then I'll give you some directions." She said with her smile returning to her face. With that she turned away and briskly walked to the kitchen. "Damian, where are you? I don't think you should be alone here." My best friend and future Beta Javier said to me in the mindlink. "Diner, come get some food, I think you might like the waitress." I send back. He was a player if there ever was one. A few moments later Javier walks in and sits down across the booth from me. "Dude, there are rogues all over the place here." He said in a hushed tone. "Forgiven, or Feral?" I ask as I didn't seem to be the only one to run across someone interesting. "Forgiven, they were working the luggage carts when I smelled them from the plane. Three of them." he reported. "Interesting I also found someone similar." I said. I here footsteps approach from behind me. I look up at Javier and see his eyes roll. "This is what you think I like? Real funny joke man." He mind links me. I look over confused what his issue was to see a new waitress cone to a stop at our table with my drink and ready to take our order. The new waitress was about 55 and definitely human. "Can I get your order hun?" She asked Javier. "Excuse me, what happened to the other waitress?" I asked her. "Oh I'm not sure, she just said she had to take care of something at home and left. She wasn't supposed to work today but her friend passed out at school yesterday and so she wanted to take the shift to keep herself busy. Her name is Emily but I'm pretty sure she has her eye on someone if that was your intention." she winked and nudged me with a smile. "No, just I asked her something she said she would tell me about." I reply. We get through our meals and then head towards the plane for an update on repairs.
