Sylvi POV
Snow
Cold, Loud, Snow
"That's it Sylvi, you are safe." a woman's voice says above me. It seems familiar and warm, but still makes me sad.
"Go Ingrid! They are here for her and I! Hide and I will fight them off, I love you now run!" It is frantic, stronger than I've known but that voice was my father's. His voice is strong now, but this version of him had an authority to it, the voice of someone who is sure of everything. A complete voice...
Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.
Every step my mother makes is loud and unforgiving in the deep cold snow.
"NOOOOOO!!!"
My father's voice roars in the distance shaking the trees around us. Like the forest itself feels his pain and anger... "I love you Sylvi, be strong now." The woman's voice says with sadness as she puts me in the hollow of a dead tree. "Don't look snowflake, shut your eyes and just remember you are loved."
Crunch
My eyes open and I'm in my bedroom. The dream seemed so real, I knew it was something real but I was far too young to truly remember.
Ring!!!!!
"Ugh, of course." I turn my alarm off. Why is it that you always wake up just before your alarm goes off? I get up and go to the bathroom for my morning routine and prepare for school. I have to get up early and go train or else Ms. Betty the Housekeeper will have her minions prepping and primping me up like a "true lady", whatever that's supposed to be. I don't remember my mother, but my father doesn't care what I look like. He says that a person's worth is who they are not how they look. Obviously he has never been an American high schooler.
I get out of my bedroom and run down the stairs to the first floor where I am met at the front door by Jordan and Peter, two classmates of mine and who are training to be pack guards. My name is Sylvi Frekison, I am 5'10 blonde with blue eyes. I am also heir to the greatest pack in the world, the Open Moon Pack. Well, maybe greatest is an exaggeration. We aren't a small pack, but we don't exactly meet the standards of the other packs. My father and the older pack members have always been super secretive about the reasons why, but 15 years ago my father formed a new pack and separated from all other pack alliances and has separated us from "civilized" werewolves. Though I think some of this was because my father doesn't believe in the banishment of rogues. He is very strict with justice, but says that everyone deserves somewhere to be safe. As such we have the largest concentration of rogue wolves in the United States. Most don't ever join our pack, but work with us to help defend our territory and work in our community.
"Anyone finish our Algebra homework last night?" asked Peter as we walked off the porch and were heading towards the training gym.
"I did, but you can cheat off of Sylvi not me. Last time you used mine you copied it exactly and we got caught." said Jordan.
"Ask Emily, when we get to the gym." I told him. "You know she would be ecstatic to help you." I tease. Emily was one of my closest friends and openly had a huge crush on Peter. I was pretty sure as she just turned 18 that she knew he was her mate but until both turned of age you couldn't really tell.
"I can't do that Sylvi, if she did that she would know I'm dumb as a box of rocks and I definitely won't have a date to ask for the winter formal this year." Peter replied. I knew he had asked her as his date last week at school.
Unfortunately between these two and my only other male friend Eric, I was pretty sure I was going alone this year. As the Alpha's daughter everyone was either scared or nervous to ask me out, but secretly I wish Eric would. I doubt he would end up as my mate but in a week we would find out and I really hoped so.
"You are on time for once, shocker." a deep voice said ahead of us as we reached the gym. Eric stepped up from beside the front door smiling his bright perfect teeth. He was our Beta's son and soon would take over for his father, but he could of been an Alpha in any other pack. 6'3 brown hair that went to his shoulder and blue eyes like the sky. He might of been my best friend, but he was hot and everyone knew it. His sister Alicia was my other best friend, she would be here too but not for a little while. with training starting soon she would be waking up in about 5 minutes and then run down here halfway through telling us her alarm (which she never sets) didn't go off. I love her but five days a week for three years of the same excuse is a bit much.
We make our way into the gym and line up before our Gamma, who heads all our training walks in and starts our warm-up. As soon as we finish and prepare for the main training someone yells from the side. "Attention!!!" Everyone stops and stand straight. "At ease, I appreciate the respect but I'd rather you focus on training rather than etiquette." My father's voice is kind and gentle. Not like the voice from my dream, this one was more thoughtful, worn.
We begin training again and sparring. About halfway through my father steps forward to talk to us.
"I have a just a few words to say before I leave you to it. As you are all aware, my daughter Sylvi turns 18 in one week." Everyone claps and a couple whistles go out as people near me smile and clap my back. "As such, I will be counting on each and everyone of you to be on your highest guard. 15 years ago we barely survived the war waged on us by the Hunters. Though I lost her mother and our Luna, we survived and have thrived due to the hardwork of every member of our pack and our allies. Stay Strong!" my father says. "Stay Strong!!!" the entire gym repeats together.
After we are done training I get back to my room and change for school. We have a private quarters in the pack house with our own kitchen. My father is there at our little breakfast nook with a large mug of coffee and the business section of the newspaper.
"Dad, did you eat?" I asked, he habitually only drinks coffee for breakfast so I normally have to make him eat something.
He looks up at me over the paper, lifting it to show a plate of toast he had just in front of him.
"Okay, I just had to ask." I laugh at his incredulous look.
"I believe I'm the parent not you." He said with a grin. "Ready for school? big day coming up."
"I'm always ready for school, now my birthday I don't know " I admit to him honestly.
" Me neither" he says to my surprise. "I..." he catches himself before continuing "I am proud to see the woman you are becoming and knowing the woman you will be. Your mother would be proud." I smile at his words.
"Well, no waiting for the wicked, off to school with you and we can continue your training when you get home." I roll my eyes at the last part. I hated Alpha training. At least at the gym it was fun, but office work was boring. It was important and I liked helping people, but my father was excruciatingly meticulous when it came to paperwork. It wasn't bad if it wasn't for all the double checking. First write down information and review for issues. Then copy to our digital workbooks while looking for issues. Then print it out and file it while reviewing for issues. There wasn't a penny spent in our territory that my father didn't account for. I grab my morning smoothie and toast and put on my book bag. Time to head to school.
