For a moment, Ginette Waters remained silent. Kira’s words hung in the air between them. The music of the nearby string quartet suddenly seemed distant. It felt as if there were no one else in the world but the two of them, sitting on the edge of the tinkling fountain. Kira realized she was holding her breath.
A slow smile spread across Ginette’s elegant features. “Very good.” Her eyes narrowed. “How did you know?”
Kira shrugged. “A few small details. You’re obviously highly-organized to be running regular fundraisers like this. Walter admitted you were the one behind everything here tonight. And you clearly have the money to hire the right people, and the connections to choose your victims.”
