36 Kira sat in her car and waited. Her long hair was out of its usual ponytail, hanging loose around her shoulders beneath a dark ball cap. She hadn’t gone home—not yet. Her car was in one of the lower level parking lots beneath the La Valentia Center. She sat in silence. The only sounds were the occasional echoing footsteps of shoppers or store employees walking to and from the mall entrance with rustling bags or jingling keys, the rumbling engines of vehicles as they drove in and out, and the occasional slam of a car door.
