Chapter 13“We’re breached.” The blank face Ghurva presented worried Carlo more than anything else. Zen and the others often wore impassive faces, but Ghurva didn’t.

Carlo did, but heard nothing.
“We need to hide. They’ll find the women, but if we can stay hidden, we might make it.” Ghurva gestured toward one of the smaller rooms. They were sacrificing the women? What about Zen?
Carlo dug his heels in. “No.”
“There is no chance. Pirates are notorious, they kill and kidnap without qualm. There is nothing we can do.”
Carlo nodded. He’d never been a brave man, but he couldn’t hide while the pirates—if it was what they were dealing with—killed and kidnapped. He’d been kidnapped once this week already, he wouldn’t want it to happen a second time.
