I had no idea how she was going to react to that question, and that fact terrified me.
I expected maybe some nerves, a dry laugh or an awkward cough. Instead, I got an entirely different reaction. Lily’s eyes went wide, her lips parted as she stared at me in disbelief and delight. Two emotions I had never seen together before.
For a brief moment, I wondered if I had pushed too far. If in my haste to bond with her, I had crossed over a gulf I was not supposed to. Asking someone to run with you as wolves was a sacred thing, it showed you trusted the other person. And I wasn’t sure if she trusted me… yet.
But then, Lily swallowed.
