The ride back to the estate was silent. I let out a sigh as I leaned back on the leather seat and stared out of the car’s window into the passing streets as Joe drove us through the city. My mind and thoughts were tangled up in a storm that refused to untangle no matter how much I wanted it to. “What the hell had gotten into John?” I thought, my brows furrowed as my mind raced back to our conversation.
