Chapter 7

The weeks passed with no hiccups at work and Ava was impressed. Zach had managed to keep his rendezvous away from the office. No wannabe girlfriends causing havoc was quite an achievement.

She had now been working for Lockhart for a month and she was in tune with everything.Geoffrey had permanently retired and Zachary was now the boss.

It was Saturday and she was on her way to visit Steven to give him an invitation to her mothers party. She had finally managed to get her mother to invite him even if it was reluctant.

Steven’s apartment was about thirty minutes from hers that’s why they rarely saw each other. They could have moved in together but Steven had never asked and she did not feel they were at that level in their relationship.

He had given her a key though around the time they both worked at Castillo she would go over and cook dinner before going home.

Ava had called him and he had said he was at work so she thought to go over and surprise him with dinner and the invitation when he came back.

She entered the apartment and went straight for the kitchen. She knew his place like the back of her hand and set to work. She opened the fridge to take out the ingredients for a salad and as she closed the door she came face to face with a redheaded woman and they both screamed.

“I’m so sorry I did not know anyone was here” Ava hurriedly apologized. She quickly scanned the woman who was wearing just a button up shirt which reached mid thigh.

“Hey I know you” the redhead exclaimed with a growing smile on her face.

“You do ?” Ava asked trying to think back if she had met the woman. The lady had that attention grabbing beauty minus the foul attitude.

“You are Ava, Steven told me about you when I saw your picture in his phone. I was kind of jealous so he quickly explained." she said with excitement.

“Sorry but you are?” Ava asked as politely as she could.

“Im his girlfriend Susan." she replied them she chuckled. “imagen my embarrassment when I found out I was jealous of his cousin "

“Girlfriend huh?” Ava asked then she forced a smiled at Susan deciding to play along. It was not her fault that Steven lied. “So where is Steven?”

“Oh he is taking a shower we just got out of bed and I came to make food.” Susan replied.

Steven walked into the kitchen just then with only a towel around him still wet. “Sue are you OK I heard screaming what……..” he stopped dead in his track when he saw Ava.

Ava raised her hand ,gave him a small wave and smile. Steven looked like a deer caught in taillights.

“Ava” he breathed out.

“Hey cousin” Ava replied in a cheerful tone that both surprised and scared Steven. He expected her to be angry and spitting profanities at him but she was calm and that confused him.

“I -l-l can explain its...its not what it looks like.” He stuttered looking back and forth between Ava and Susan who had a confused expression.

“Please do I would love to hear this.” Ava said as she leaned on the kitchen countertop.

“I… um..the thing is..um.um” He stuttered looking from Ava to Susan.

“Baby what’s going on?” A still confused Susan asked.

“Let me make it simple Susan. I’m not his cousin." Ava told her.

“What do you mean? Why would he lie about that?” Susan asked trying to piece together what was going on. She turned to Steven and waited for an explanation.

Steven did not know how or what to say to them. He was actually considering running but he knew it was useless.

“This is taking forever I just came to give you your invitation to the party my mom is hosting but in view of all this I don’t think I will be going with you. And if that not clear let me rephrase ,we are over.” Ava said calmly.

“Wait you were dating her and me at the same time?” Susan yelled finally understanding what was going on.

“We have been together for a year actually.”Ava told her.

“WHAT?” Susan screamed she had a crazed livid expression now a contrast to Ava who was still calm.

“You f*****g asshole.You have been cheating on me for a year. We are so done and I hope you rot in hell” Susan then stomped upstairs to get dressed.

“I’m also leaving ,ditto on what Susan said babe” Ava said then picked her purse and walked out. She met Susan who was still fuming but managed to smile at Ava and flip Steven the bird.

Ava was chuckling as she opened her car door she was not that angry and she did not know why. She should be livid like Susan but she could not find it in her to be.

She was about to start the car when she remembered she forgot to give back Steven his house key. She got out and went back into the apartment without even bothering to knock.

Steven did not hear her enter he was on the phone talking with someone. Ava decided to just leave the key in the kitchen than to talk to him but as she backed out she heard her name being said and decided to listen.

“You know Ava is a hard b***h it took forever to get her to date me.” He said then went quiet to listen.

“yes she just came and Susan dumped me even the ice queen dumped me too, not like I care” he scoffed.

Ava leaned forward to try to hear what the other person was saying but it was impossible.

“I will get her back you know me. She will come crawling back to me.” Ava could feel that smirk in his voice and she scoffed.

“Yes and I will make sure to get in her pants this time. She is a prude maybe a little ecstasy will speed the process....Yeah I will keep you updated OK.....Good..... OK later” he hung up chuckling only to come face to face with the subject of his conversation. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he gulped.

“Ava baby how long have you been standing there?” he said nervously.

“The whole time baby, this prude b***h came to give you your keys.” She replied with a shrug.

“I can explain everything just……”he started but was cut off by Ava raising her hand for him to stop.

“Don’t bother I’ve heard enough I’m going.” She told him in a cold voice. Steven’s expression changed then to anger at Ava’s dismissal.

“I was right you know you are a cold, prude bitch.I don’t think you even know how to please a man.” He sneered. His words were meant to hurt her and they did but she did not show it.

“Maybe you were just not man enough to make me hot.” She said inspecting her nails.

“Why you spoiled bratty bitch.” He growled as he went to grab her by the neck.

Ava reacted quickly and had him on the floor on his back, she had decked him. She put her foot on his chest to push him back when he tried to get up.

“Steven I admit I am a bitch.” She told him with a sinister smile. "But I’m an awesome b***h baby.” She finished then chuckled then she walked away. 

Ava got home to see Khloe in the living room dancing anaconda butt by Nicki Minaj and joined her.

“That was quite a workout."Khloe said breathless when the song ended.

“yeah but that was fun I would rather do that than go to the gym”

“Hey I thought you would be back late your note said you are going to see slimy Steven?” Khloe asked turning to look her.

“About that you were right all along”

“Of cause I was, but just for the record I was right about what?”

“Slimy Steven"

“What did he do this time ,cancel your date again."

Ava chuckled humorlessly. “Oh he did worse than that. Found him with another girl at his house.” Ava told Khloe.

“Wait why are you not crying, sulking and eating a tone of ice cream?.”

“I don’t know I guess I’m not that heartbroken about it” Ava shrugged.

“Maybe you were not that in love with him.” Khloe concluded.

“I did love him Khloe” she argued.

“I said you were not in love with him that’s different. “ Khloe explained.

“I guess ,I don’t know the difference anyway. " she said with a shrug.

“Enough about that have you chosen a dress for the party?”

“I’ll just wear one of my old gowns.” Ava said waving her hand dismissively.

“I knew you would say that so I bought you a dress and a mask.”

“A mask for what?” Ava asked.

“ Didn’t your mom tell you it’s a masquerade sort of thing?”

“No she did not. Thanks for the dress and the mask then.” Ava told her friend.

“Welcome now lets go and do a Mani and Pedi then get ready for the party its already four. We have to be there by seven you know how you mum is if we are late.”

“Yeah ,don’t remind me about mom.” Ava groaned as they got up and headed to her bedroom.

“What color is my dress by the way.”Ava asked as she looked for a nail polish.

“That’s a surprise.” Khloe replied wiggling her eyebrow.

“But how am I supposed to know which nail polishes to chooses? “ Ava argued.

“Put the deep red one it will be OK.” Khloe replied as she picked a pink nail polish for herself.
