Chapter Forty Eight

*** “I hear congratulations are in order, Soren. You have found yourself a beautiful and fiery wife. Emilia Navarro is it?” Lei Yang, the next head of the Triad stated, a broad grin stretching across his lips that was anything but sincere. On the contrary, my wife’s name in his mouth was pissing me the hell off. Be calm. That’s exactly what he wants. Don’t give him the satisfaction. Face him head on. “I’m just curious as to why we did not receive an invitation to said event. My father was looking forward to witnessing this new development, most especially were we to continue the business talks from before.” The thought of his perverted father coming anywhere near my bride incensed me more than I thought rationale. I kept my cool, though, taking time to assess the man before me. He’s really struggling to f**k with me. To make me react. And if he keeps talking about Emilia, I just might have to grant his wish.. “You may not know this, but no one wants to be around your father, Lei. It’s no secret he can be a despicable piece of shit.” Kenji stated, revealing the enemity I knew existed between the two. Christian and Diesel’s chuckles spurned on my own as I tried and failed to hold back my amused smile despite the glares we were now receiving from Lei’s men. “Hikori. Can’t say it’s a pleasure to see you.” Lei stated through gritted teeth, earning himself a pleasant smile from my second in command. The two men had always been at war with centuries of bad blood existing between their families. At least they aren’t trying to kill each other, as usual...that would mean trouble in a neutral environment and we must keep attention to ourselves at a minimum. “The sight of you sickens me but, I mean, we could say that too.” “Now now...we aren’t here for a pissing contest, guys, though I have to admit, I am enjoying how you’re getting shat on.” Christian declared, earning a loud laugh from Diesel as the two men ignored the angry glares being directed at them. Not that they cared. They were enjoying themselves too much. “Instead of making those constipated ass faces that I’m guessing are supposed to be intimidating?...why don’t you tell us why the f**k you’re seated in front of us like you aren’t in our damn f*****g territory?” Diesel stated, anger seeping into his voice as he glared down Lei’s men into submission. It was only a matter of time until he showed them exactly why he had the reputation he did. His moods could change at the drop of a heart and being at the other side of that almost always meant disaster. “You have been having a problem with Kaien Cole and the Russians. A fast growing gang that is gaining influence on these streets and a major crime family. Each of them have their own allies, one of whom you have taken down and absorbed into your own organization; the Albanians.” “You have impressed many of us with your prowess but you must know this is not the end. It is just the beginning.” I ran a hand through my hair, releasing a small sigh. “And you’re giving me a recap because...” Lei seemed displeased by my words and interruption, but I ignored his displeasure and focused on the bad feeling that was coursing through me as I faced off with the powerful man before me. “Because in as much as you will probably deny it, you need the assistance of one of the neutral families and I am here to offer an olive branch.” “My father offered you a chance to become allies if only you gave us five of your sea routes. Accept our terms and we shall swear our loyalty to you and your organization. We will win this war for you.” I released a chuckle, genuinely amused by his words as I shared equally amused glances with my three brothers. They really don’t know that we know about their break of neutrality...Good. “Its funny how everyone seems to believe they are the only ones who could possibly conquer my enemies for me. Is it that they have forgotten the legacy of death and despair I have wrought? That my brothers have spread through my Kingdom?” I was genuinely curious by their ignorance of my power. Do they really think I won’t burn them all down? Destroy every last shred kf their existence? “We know how formidable you are but no one can be able to stand against the odds you have. You will not beat them without us.” Lei stressed, seeming oddly pleased as he said this with the sinister smirk on his lips growing even wider. He was shamelessly basking in my imminent ‘defeat’ and I wanted to not only prove him wrong but also punch his teeth down his goddammit throat. “You cocky motherfucker. The only thing you know how to do is use your father’s reputation to intimidate. You are nothing but a f*****g coward, a less than impressive future Don and the fact that you think that we or any other person would side with you is laughable.” Kenji stated, his voice cold and detached as he faced off with Lei who seemed ready to explode. “Watch your f*****g mouth, you disgraced bastard. Just because your own family cast you out doesn’t mean you get to take it out on the rest of us. The only f*****g disappointment of a human being here is you. A waste of damn space! Your failure will never be forgotten and neither will your inability to be anything other than the pathetic traitor you were.” The two men got to their feet, each of them contributing to the volatile energy in the room as they prepared to pounce on each other. “What the f**k did you say to me?” Kenji seethed, facing off with Lei whereas Christian and Diesel glared down his bodyguards. “Give me a reason to drop you. Please do.” Christian urged one of the men, a crazed look in his eyes that I knew all too well. He needed some action or he would go stir crazy. “Enough! All of you!” I declared, my firm and strong voice carrying over to each party who looked away from their argument and focused on me. “I appreciate the sentiment and offering of help but I’ll have to decline. Not only can I not work with your piece of s**t dad but you have nothing I want. Nothing I do not already possess. Heck, I just may be the ally that you need but our union will never be possible.” “This is still my Kingdom and I intend to defend it until my last dying breath with my brothers beside me. This is not a war that my opponents can win. It will be a thrashing to remind them of their King and their place in My world.” I leaned forward, never once breaking eye contact with the seething man. “So find the best spot in the house and watch me take down my enemies. It will be an event worth remembering. A lesson to all of you as to why I am who I am and why I am the King of Sin.” “Now get the f**k out of my office before I throw you out myself and send a message to your father with your blood and guts!” My anger seeped through my barriers, stunning my opponents who got to their feet immediately, neither one of them wishing for me to follow through with my threat. “This isn’t over, Soren!” Lei declared as he vacated my office. Bitterness, anger and rage stained his voice but I didn’t care as I flipped him off. “Not by a long shot. Do try to keep it entertaining for me. I hate threats that don’t amount to anything.” The door was shut soon after with a bang, leaving my brothers and I to muse over the words spoken and the hand that had been fully revealed. They had confirmed all our suspicions of their shifted alliance. “He will be trouble. We must prepare for his retaliation.” ***
