Chapter Fifty Four

*** He was staring at me, leaning against the doorway with his hands in his pocket. It was one of the most attractive sights that engulfed me with multiple emotions. You need to focus, Emilia. Harness those emotions. “Are you going to listen to your crush out there and renegade on our contract?” I muttered, breaking the silence as I continued to disassemble the Glock in my hand. He had been watching my every move, an indecipherable expression on him. “Crush?” He seemed genuinely confused and for a moment, I basked at how cute he looked but then the rage was back, the possibility of the reason behind his visit. I won’t back down, no matter what. “Ah, you mean Diamond. She is not my crush. Nobody could ever take that place from you.” I paused my actions, taking in his words which I knew better than to believe. I hated the way that my heart fluttered. I hated the fact that I actually thought, no, believed that he actually meant it. “You don’t mean that and the fact that you’re trying to distract me from what’s about to come is pissing me the hell off so just say it.” I was firm, resolute in my decision to completely disregard whatever he had to say. I would make sure that my best friend was not abandoned. My sacrifices and his one not for nothing. Soren Alexander would get me what I needed, no matter what. “My word is my bond, Emilia and the fact that you do not believe me wounds me.” I glanced up at him, taking in his words in his expression. I wanted to believe him, longed to understand the sadness that was wedged deep in his eyes. But letting him in, believing him is dangerous. I refuse to make that mistake. “Well you didn’t seem to feel that way when I was telling your little pawn off. I know you know this but I’m just going to say it again. Nothing you say will change my mind from my decision.” “I know and I do not plan on changing your mind. I made a promise to you, one that I do not take lightly. We are so close to finding your friend, and we will stop at nothing to ensure that we have fulfilled just that for you.” He took a couple of steps towards me, the sudden action prompting me to pause on my efforts to reassemble the gun that I had just cleaned. I was prepared for any eventuality, but nothing prepared me for the small brush of his fingers against my cheek. “You really don’t realise that I would do anything for you, malyshka.” His voice was almost reverent, his eyes alit with so much emotion that I could not comprehend it all. I had no chance to either as he turned his gaze away from me and settled it on the assembled gun in my hands. “You can’t say s**t like that, Soren. It’s not fair that you're trying to lie to me and manipulate me. That won’t work and you know it.” His face was closer to me than ever before, his lips brushing softly against my own as we stared at each other with an intensity that could not be explained. There was burning chemistry between us, a feeling that I did not anticipate. You have been feeling it Emilia. You just didn’t want to believe it yourself. Believe that you could actually care for the monster before you. “Oh how I long to show you just how wrong you are. To make you eat your words and assuage all your fears and your mistrust. I want to show you that you can put your trust in me completely. I want you to believe that I would take care of you no matter what.” I gulped, speechless as to his beautiful words that literally took my breath away. I must have lost my sense of self for I closed the distance between us, brushing my lips softly against his own in a chaste kiss. I had been longing to do just that, and now that his lips were against my own, an intensity unlike any other engulfed the two of us. We were engaged in a passionate kiss, our tongues tussling for dominance before his won. I was putty in his arms, dangerously close to forgetting exactly why I was so mad at him. “Stop! I can’t do this knowing that you are going to abandon one of the most important people to me. I can’t believe your longing gazes or your kisses. Not when you want to condemn my best friend to death.” “I made you a promise, Emilia. I may not give a s**t about every other person out there but I care about you and I do not plan on renegading on my word. I will find your friend and I will bring him home to you. Of that you have my word.” I tried hard not to react to his words, and yet the kiss that he gave me revealed all of my emotions. I was playing a dangerous game, one that made my heart beat all the more faster and my arms long to wrap around him and do so much more. “Get some rest, malyshka. We have a long day tomorrow and staying here will tempt me to do things that I probably shouldn’t. Things I cannot wait to do one day...” With a playful wink directed at my speechless countenance, my husband made his way out of his of my room, leaving me in a mess of emotions. I had to figure out how to stop caring about him. Otherwise I would be more broken, more a shell of my person once earlier everything was over. ***
