Chapter Thirty One

*** “I looked into the situation with Anna. And how she got to know your penthouse codes. One of the rats we rooted out revealed that someone from your personal guard might be working for the other side.” Kenji muttered over to me, his hard gaze revealing all he felt about the news. I turned to look out the window at our two guards, each of whom were scouting the perimeter and awaiting our orders. It was hard to believe that my personal guard was in on it, let alone conceive their betrayal. Each of them were handpicked by Kenji and Diesel, assessed and found to not only possess high skill but loyalty to the Sins. The inner circle was not, could not, be easily infiltrated. And yet they have somehow found a way... “f*****g bastards...Their betrayal will be the last thing they ever do. They made the worst mistake by allying themselves with our enemies.” I declared, the rage burning through my body at the very thought of their shifted allegiance. Our enemies’ strategy was smart. But not good enough. “Have you found the traitor?” I inquired after settling down, earning a shake of the head from Kenji who looked less than pleased by the slow Investigation. He was a man that valued results. Anything less than perfection from his men was unacceptable. “No. But we’re still looking. In the meantime, I don’t think it’s best if we leave your wife unattended to. She has proven that she can somewhat take care of herself if Fiji is anything to go by but if the Vipers are aiming to strike us then they will certainly make her a target as well.” Kenji stated, His gaze be holding the wisdom that I always valued. His advice was always welcome, his experience integral in the growing of the scenes. “They have no reason to go after her, though. They must know that she is my wife only by name.” I argued, ignoring the part of me that knew I was blatantly lying to myself. Kenji seemed to see this like the observant bastard he always was but said nothing, choosing instead to focus on the matter at hand. “Be that as it may, she is still an Alexander. She is a part of us and as long as that is the case, any blow to her is one to us and they cannot question our security measures. No one can be allowed to get close enough to the inner circle.” I nodded in agreement, knowing full well that Kenji was right. The security measures we had put in place were famous throughout the criminal underground. Nobody could touch us and nobody had made the effort to for they knew that any chance they had would end up in their deaths. “We have cleared Clover and Ace. I suggest that they are assigned to Emilia’s personal guard. They will keep her safe whilst we be on the lookout for the others until they are cleared or we find the traitorous piece of garbage.” I turned to look out the window to where Clover and Ace were standing, scouting the perimeter and ordering the others into the right positions and formations. Deep down, I was happy it wasn’t them. Their loyalty had been proven over and over again. “We must move from the penthouse as well, then. I will feel more comfortable and confident if we have Azula and Delta watching over her too.” I muttered, earning a raised brow from Kenji who simply smiled slightly, the action stunning me into silence. “I did not realize you would go to such lengths to ensure her safety, brother. She must be very special indeed to pique your interest this much.” I shrugged non-committaly, not willing to showcase just how much Emilia had managed to dent the armor that I always had around me. “I believe we have let the Albanians Stew for long enough. Shall we, brother?” Kenji said nothing, nodding instead before he knocked on the window twice to alert the men that we were ready. Even as we walked to towards the meeting place, my mind was fixated on the lengths I was willing to go to so as to keep Emilia out of the politics and dangers of my world. Although it seems Noah Basset has already dragged them right in... There was no place safer than my mansion. The fortress that housed all the Kings of Sin. It was a last resort, almost like a Hail Mary .I could not afford to show any weakness to my enemies. Retreating to the Manor will be just that. But for Emilia’s safety, anything was on the table. She would remain unharmed, away from their clutches and insulated from everything. No matter what I have to do... ** I stared at the pistachio flavored ice Cream and iced coffee, not really believing my eyes. To say I had thoroughly enjoyed the variety of breakfast foods that I’ve been laying before me would be an understatement. All but my two most favourite things in the world. “And you’re sure he said nothing? No catch. Just asked you to prepare this for me?” I inquired for the umpteenth time, earning a nod and small smile from Marie. Knowing that Soren had been listening to my rant, had latched onto my favorite desserts and kept them to memory both stunned me and warmed my heart. I kept my smile at bay even as Marie busied herself with cleaning my room. Waking up without Soren beside me- although a given- had made me somewhat sad despite the fact I quashed those emotions instantly. But then he had to go and do something so heart warming. Seriously?? “Oh sis in law!! You in here?!” Diesel’s voice pulled me out my head and to the present where he burst into the room, a wide grin on his lips despite my roll of the eyes. Marie was quick to excuse herself, leaving me with the deranged bastard who seemed to unsettle her more so than the others. And with good reason. Diesel was dangerous as hell. “What are you doing here?” I inquired as I sampled the ice cream, the burst of flavor bringing a wide smile to my lips as I began to devour it. “Wow, someone likes her little gift. Can I have a bite?” “Never. Over my dead body. Go get some for yourself.” I shook my head, earning a laugh from Diesel as he settled on my bed. “That can be arranged...but alas, Soren would kill me.” Whilst I was used to the deranged grin on his lips, the fear that flashed in his eyes was foreign, reminding me of just how powerful he was. “And I guess you would end my life too, yeah?” My chuckle was returned despite the knowing in his eyes. He had seen only part of what I was truly capable of. “I’d love to sit and chat but I have some stupid motherfuckers to torture.” Diesel seemed beyond elated at the prospect, going as far as to clap his hands in delight. I chuckled, genuinely amused and disturbed by the man before me. His behavior is starting to look pretty normal and that is probably not good. “Here. This is what we have found so far on your best friend. CCTV footage at the Fiji airport shows him, in a disguise boarding a plane for Prague but our contacts there have yet to spot him. They are on the watch, though, and on high alert.” The folder contained photos of Noah in a different get up, barely recognizable and walking through the airport with a man beside him. One I did not recognize. “And who is this beside him? Never seen him with Noah before.” I inquired, earning a nod from Diesel. “Good eye. He is the person of interest. You may not know this but the criminal underground here in the States is ruled by the King of Sins, Wrath. Although it hasn’t always been rainbows and unicorns. Many have tried to dethrone us and have failed miserably. All including an organization that have been our enemies since we began our rule.” “The Vipers led by the slithering little s**t, Kaien Cole, have rivaled us for a long period of time. They, at first, were nothing but a small gang who we destroyed as we began to amass power but he was smarter than we anticipated. He gathered the small gangs and with their help, approached the larger organizations who refused to ally with us. By gaining their support, they became a credible threat. One we are currently dealing with.” I took in the information as it came, not truly understanding everything but internalising all the same. “This was obtained from one of the men who attacked us in Fiji. Their main mission was to find your best friend and the man walking beside him. They were also ordered to stop us from finding anything on Noah and the man beside him. One who was close to the Vipers once but betrayed them and ran. Keith Cole is the connection we needed to confirm that your friend may be involved in the war that is brewing between us.” I froze at the new piece of information, not quite believing my ears. How could that be possible? How is Noah involved in this dangerous s**t? Where are you? And what have you done, Noah? ***
