Chapter Fifty Seven

*** Her movements were smooth, professional and certainly worthy of awe. She was not only the most beautiful woman I had ever looked upon but she "was also more than capable as she cleared her way through our assailants whilst beside me. Never, at any point, did I need to wait for her or to pick up her slack. She had my back in every sense of the word. I had never pegged myself to be one who would be so madly attracted to such a capable woman. Never had it crossed my mind that her skill with a gun or her self defense moves would make me want her so damn bad, I couldn't concentrate on the task ahead. She makes me want to forget everything and everyone else just so I could take her right here and make her mine. She is beyond my wildest dreams. The grandest enigma that has ever graced my life. "I can't get a clear shot to this piece of s**t! Can you?" She called out from the other side of the hallway, the urgency in her voice reminding me of the precarious position we were in. Not only had we been betrayed but they believed that they could overcome our defense. They had hit hard and fast, a good strategy but certainly not worthy when facing off with me. They came after not only me but my wife...She is now a target to them and I will not let any one of them harm her... The very thought made my blood boil, the anger that I had been holding back leaking through as I advanced towards the man shooting at us. His skills were basic, his advantage being the cover he held at the foot of the staircase. Swift as I could, I grabbed his gun as soon as he emerged from reloading, catching him perfectly off guard. Giving him no time to recover, I set my weapon right underneath his chin, earning a wide, fearful look from the man who was now at my mercy. "You have five seconds of my mercy. Tell me who hired you." I stated, conscious of my wife who was slowly descending the stairs, her gun trained on the rest of the apartment for any possible surprise attacks. Her movements were calculated, almost tactically ingrained and I couldn't help but wonder- long to know who had trained her and made her as lethal as she was. She really hasn't been fully trying to kill me... "I don't know..." The man blubbered, his words matching what every other temporary prisoner had stated. Unamused by the lack of information, I pulled the trigger, uncaring of the blood that splattered over me as the body collapsed right at my feet. "Well, that was unpleasant. These guys really don't understand the concept of self preservation, do they?" She muttered, shaking her head in disappointment as she gazed down at the dead body at my feet. Yet another mystery to add onto the growing pile. My woman was not only a one-army kind of gal but also unaffected by the very concept of death and bloodshed that now surrounded her. Although she does seem to value human life. None of her shots have been lethal. Only enough to maim them which can be argued to be worse... "This floor is clear. Come..." I muttered, shelving all my questions to focus on the current matter at hand- keeping her safe and destroying any and all threats that could possibly not only harm her but cause more damage than had already been done. She nodded, her defiance stowed away for the moment as she took my proffered hand. Although her obedience pleased me to no end, I missed her smart mouth, her fiery defiance that always found a way to both irritate and turn me on. She was a wonderful mix of emotions that never failed to surprise me. So far, she had been a woman of her word, never once questioning my guidance as we made our way through the numerous assassins that had somehow broken through my security. My office loomed before me, our destination and safe point for the moment. Emilia released a small breath once I cleared the room and locked the door, the exhaustion of the entire situation clear now in her features as she collapsed on the couch. "f*****g hell. I don't think I have ever been up against such a large group of people. And how again were they able to get in?" She inquired from her vantage point, her gaze following my every move as I checked our ammo, reloaded our weapons and grabbed the burner phone in my safe which contained a prepared go-bag for such a situation. "That's what I am about to find out." I muttered, dialing Kenji's number which rang for a longer period of time than it should have. Diesel and Christian turned up the same outcome, one which unsettled me instantly as I clenched my free hand in annoyance. "They're not picking up, are they? Could they have been targeted just as we have been? Are they going to be okay?" Emilia's genuine concern for my brothers touched me more than I thought it would, her eyes shimmering with worry as she stopped to stand beside me. Her quick wit that mirrored my own thoughts was welcome, reinforcing my own summations. Whoever had staged this attack knew exactly what the f**k they were doing. "There are no other people I know that are more capable than my brothers. They'll be fine. We need to focus on us right now and getting the f**k out of here. We are sitting ducks in a compromised station." I stated, shoving the burner phone within my bag before setting everthing up for the contigency that was always in place for moments like these. In our world, always being prepared was a code we lived by. We lived in a lot of uncertainity and protocols had to be put in place for such moments. "Ah s**t, I was starting to like this place. To consider it a home. I'm going to miss it." She muttered, her gaze fixating on the incredible view sprawled beyond the floor to ceiling windows behind me. My heart tugged at her words, a promise burnt right into my soul. I would create yet another safe haven for her. Anything to remove the sadness in her eyes and return the feeling of safety she had began to cultivate in her. "Here. You need to get as warm as possible." I stated instead, handing her one of my suit jackets to don over her pajamas whilst I got dressed in the black dress pants, white shirt and black Oxfords. I always kept an extra set of clothes in my office, for moments just like these and beyond. "Hey, I just remembered why the f**k I was in your room earlier. Where are my damn clothes, Soren? Or are you keeping them somewhere like some pervert?" She protested, an adorable frown on her as she buttoned up the oversized black coat that would provide just enough cover before we could get her more clothes. "They're safe. Now come on, we don't have time to argue about this right now." Handing her gun back, I waited with baited breath for her response, sighing in relief at her continued obedience as she removed the safety and prepared herself to wade back into the unchartered territory between our current position and the garage in the basement which could only be accessed by the elevator. "I'll let it go now because we neeed to fully focus on our exfil plan but as soon as this is over, you and I are going to have a seriously long talk about f*****g boundaries!" She stated firmly before taking point, her little huff as she proceeded on bringing a small smile to my lips. She was certainly a force to be reckoned with and I could not wait to face off with her again. Only because she's sexy as hell when she's mad. ***
