“Many of the findings we compiled in the original investigation do indeed match up with the information I have gathered so far. I have yet to find anything out of the ordinary.”
Bishop's report was detailed, his findings somewhat disappointing. Part of me knew that finding something new on my wife would be a long shot. It was a gut feeling that was slowly being confirmed.
But a part of you knows that there is more to her than meets the eye...Something is there, lurking just beneath the surface.
“...She has known Noah Basset all her life. The two were quite close considering she lived with him and his father for an entire four months at some point. I have not been able to find anything on whether Mr Basset has been back to his Hometown recently...”
Bishop’s words pulled me from my multitude of thoughts as my mind instantly came alive at his comment. A tidbit of information that was absolutely new.
“Wait, you said they lived together? Why?”
I inquired, earning a small sigh in response.
“My source didn’t really seem to know the full story. She expressed that at some point, Mrs. Navarro, Mrs. Alexander’s mother, disappeared for a bit. The information they received was that she had gone away to visit her now late mother overseas and care for her in her final days and did not want her daughter to miss school for it was her final year in High school.”
“I’m guessing you don’t believe that either.”
Bishop’s skills were unmatched, more so his deductions. The man had been labelled the Sherlock Holmes of this age, a title he hated with a passion. I understood his sentiments, most especially considering he was way better than the fictional detective.
“Something doesn’t add up. Around the same time, Mrs. Navarro was seeing her third husband, a man who dropped off the radar right before she left for her trip. They say the two broke up because they were in different parts of their lives but my source firmly believes that it had something to do with Mrs. Alexander.”
A memory surfaced in that very moment, one that made my blood chill and my heart beat a little faster. My body suspected what was to come but my mind bided time, waited before it fully went on a rampage.
“And why does your source think that?”
I struggled to keep cool. The walls I have built up for so long were cracking. I was on the brink of madness and my coffee cup was suffering the brunt of my anger as it loudly cracked under the pressure of my grip.
Marie was quick to step forward, replacing the ruined cup with a fresh one. She said nothing as she diligently did this, clearly used to my few bouts of true anger.
Bishop seemed to hesitate for just a moment, almost as if contemplating his next words. It gave me enough time to fight back for control and prepare for his response.
“This is unconfirmed, sir, but my source states that she believes that Mrs. Alexander and the man never got along. The two had been seen arguing in public before and rumors had began to mill about in her high school that she had bruises on her body that were reminiscent to physical assault and abuse.”
“Now, Mrs. Alexander and her friend, Mr. Basset quelled the rumors by explaining them away as battle scars from the mixed martial arts classes they were taking but my source states that Mrs. Alexander’s wounds were more than just the result of a hard sparring session. It seemed to add up to her as well for the man disappeared soon after the rumors came forward and died down somewhat.”
My blood was boiling, my mind reeling as every single possibility came to the fore. I had no right to be mad as I was, ready to plough down her past Demons when I had my own and more to deal with.
This was only supposed to be a small insight into her life, a way for me to prepare for what was to come but nothing would have set me up to react in a better way to the news before me.
This will only get worse...there is too much of a grey area there...
“And you say you have no idea where the man is?”
I asked through clenched teeth, biting my tongue and holding back on every single expletive and more I wanted to unleash upon the world. It had been a while yet since I felt anger this potent.
Every time I lose my cool, it has something to do with her...She has transformed more within me than I care to admit...
“I’m afraid not, Sir. But I shall continue looking and investigating. I am going to meet with the martial arts teacher who guided her. He may have more information on this and more.”
“Good. Keep me posted. Also, what have you surmised of her mother? Is she as normal as she seems on her file ?”
I flipped through the document before me, noting all I did the first time I looked into Sophia Navarro. The woman was the poster child for all forty year olds and beyond. Not even a speeding ticket to her name.
She’s too clean...there is something there...
“So far, there has been nothing to report really. She follows her usual routine which is nothing out of the ordinary, goes to work at the bank at the same time every day. I have sent you a detailed itinerary of her day. She has a good relationship with her neighbours but does not really intermingle with them as such. My source reports that she can be somewhat closed off and attributes it to the fact that Mrs. Alexander only visits on holidays. She clearly adores her daughter but their relationship seems to be strained. My take is that it has something to do with the incident that made her leave home for four months.”
I nodded in agreement. That incident seemed to be able to connect a lot of dots. I knew Bishop well enough to know that he would stop at nothing to figure out exactly what happened. It was an unsolved mystery and he was amazing at those.
“Wow. No breakfast meetings today. Honestly thought you and your pack of evil brothers would be gathered discussing murder, drugs...the usual.”
Emilia’s voice was like a ray of sunshine despite the sarcasm that dripped heavily from her tone. I fought back the smirk, knowing well enough that she would never let me live it down.
Also, I can’t f*****g stop fixating on how gorgeous she looks...
She was in a dress today. A black, mid thigh length number with long sleeves and a generous v shaped neckline that showed off her beautiful cleavage.
Black stockings that meant to hide her thighs from my gaze did nothing to abate my desire as I latched onto the garter straps that disappeared under her dress. Red heels adorned her feet, matching well with her bag and her harlot red lipstick.
She was the object of my absolute desire. I could not stop admiring her, basking in her beauty. She seemed different, more dangerous and that intoxicated me all the more.
I wanted to know why. I wanted to be deep in her mind, exploring all her secrets and sharing my own. I wanted to wrap my hand around her high ponytail twice and make her pretty little mouth do unspeakable things to me.
I want those tantalising eyes to watch me while I made her mine.
Fucking hell...she always turns me into some horny teenager...
She raised a brow at my shameless exploration of her body, seeming somewhat amused by the sight. I could not blame her.
She made me speechless and I would not apologize for admiring my wife.
No wonder she has been dubbed best dressed at all her office functions. She has made all the men around her respect, revere and desire her from afar.
None of them will ever come close, though...or I’ll rip them limb from limb for daring to imagine they could have her...
“Keep investigating and watch her. As soon as you have answers, relay them. No matter the time.”
Ignoring my wife seemed to irritate her, a small frown gracing her lips as she plopped down on her seat opposite mine.
“Yes Sir. Until then.”
I ended the call, my mind somewhat reeling from the new information it had been fed. I watched Emilia closely, her small smile directed at Marie as she poured her a glass of fresh mango juice making my insides warmer.
So beautiful and yet so many secrets lurk beneath the surface...she might prove to be a worthy rival after all...
“Well, they were too busy handling all that today. I mean, you must understand that dealing drugs and murdering people takes a lot of effort. Requires 100% concentration.”
A smirk settled on my lips at her widened gaze, clearly not expecting my response to her earlier statement. It was not my best dark humor joke but it had certainly gotten the work done.
“You know what...I am in too good of a mood to get into that with you right now.”
Her smile contained no signs of deception or more. She was genuinely in a good mood and that very realisation brought forth my very own small smile.
“And why is it you are in such a great mood, Mrs. Alexander? Please do share.”
Tell me so that I can make sure that smile never fades...
“You are not entitled to all of my thoughts, Mr. Alexander. You may own me but you do not own my private musings.”
She seemed proud of herself, her uppity smile and her words making me chuckle before I leaned forward. She was surprised not only at my reaction but also at the close proximity of our bodies.
“Not now but soon enough, I will know everything and anything you have to offer, wife.”
I leaned back into my seat several seconds later, satisfied that she seemed to have internalised my silent promise. One I did not intend to break.
“It seems I shall make your day all the more exciting. The man we met in Fiji. You can question him today after work. I will have Ace take you.”
She lit up like a Christmas tree, showcasing what I already knew. This was extremely important to her. He was the last connection she had to her best friend. The last person who saw him alive and well.
He has given us all we need and although it wasn’t much, it is something we can work with. Having Emilia meet with him may bring forward more information...
It was unlikely but a worthy gamble all the same.
“He’s alive?? And he wants to meet with me?? That’s great! You should have probably led with that piece of information. Also, you need to communicate better. I thought he died!"
I shrugged, annoying her all the more as she rolled her eyes at me. Whereas I would have probably beat the s**t out of anyone else who would speak to me the way she did, no less roll their eyes at me, I found it endearing when it came from her.
All in due time, Soren. Punishing her will be fun when you remind her of all these moments...
“He is an asset. I never compromise any one of my assets. They are too important.”
“Well...thank you. Hopefully he gives us something to use to find Noah.”
She was hopeful, her eyes alit with so much excitement, it tugged at me. I couldn’t burst her bubble with my logic and practicability.
I could not tell her that the probability of her friend turning up unharmed had greatly reduced over time. That she had to prepare herself mentally for the pain.
I must find him. And, at the right time, prepare her for whatever outcome...
“I’ll be heading out then. Do behave yourself today or otherwise...you’ll get punished.”
Her cheeks flushed, her mind clearly Drifting into her memories and the events of last night. I momentarily basked in her reaction, a chuckle escaping me as I watched her struggle to get her body under control.
Good to know that I am not the only one struggling to get her out of my system...to forget how good she tastes and how much of an aphrodisiac her moans are.
Instead of her usual outbursts, my dear wife granted me a beautiful smile, waving me off.
“Have a wonderful day at work today, husband.”
Despite the warning signals within me, I basked in her words and how perfect she sounded whilst calling me her beloved.
It shouldn’t sound so damn perfect and yet...
