Chapter Twenty Seven

*** Of course he would be here, Emilia. This is essentially his job. You just have the shittiest luck in the entire f*****g planet. "Excuse us, Officer, but we certainly do not have the time to engage you at the moment. If you require whatever information or the other then you can speak to our usual representative." Soren's words were cold, straight to the point and certainly reflecting his urgency to leave as he pulled my hand once more, leading me towards the exit. Glaring and frowning at my rude as f**k husband who simply rolled his eyes at me, I hesistantly turned to stare at the man I'd known for the last three years through my ex boyfriend. Detective Caleb Chase had been my friend for a very long time. His partnership with Jason when they started out at the police force had been one for the ages as the two grew closer and closer whilst watching each other's backs. It was how our own friendship was born and although the break up had been rough, allegiances contested, he was still my friend. He's the only one who bothered to listen to me when I reported Noah's disappearance and although his hands were tied by his close friendhsip with my shitface ex, he had still tried to help me somewhat. Seeing him here, in the midst of these dangerous men and unsettling surroundings made me extremely anxious. More so when his eyes landed on Soren's grip on my hand before he grabbed my free hand to stop our departure. Confusion clouded his features, more so when the King of Sin turned to glare at the grip Caleb had on my hand. Oh shit...Fuck... "First of all, its Detective. And second of all, I have every right to speak to my friend...Em, what are you doing here?" He directed the last part to me, his glare at Soren's direction not lost on me. The guy had guts. More so than most, including the people close to Soren. Nobody dared challenge him like that. No one dared to defy him in that way for they knew what he was capable of. Something that Cabe doesn't seem to comprehend... "I'll call you later and explain everything, okay? For now, just please, let us leave." I urged him, my heart beating impossibly fast in my chest as I pleaded through my gaze for him to listen to me. To let this go. To save himself from the enraged man behind me who was so very close to snapping and unleashing chaos on all of us. "No the f**k you won't, Emilia! We do NOT speak to law enforcement, remember? And certainly not to this stupid f*****g cop who is about to be a dead f*****g cop if he doesn't let you go." Although he sounded less pissed than I thought he would be, the carnality in his words and gaze were enough to chill me to my very core, eliciting a shiver of apprehension at the silent promise wedged deep within. I knew my husband well enough so far to know that he was not joking. He would actually kill the man before us, law enforcement or not. "Are you threatining me, Soren Alexander? Because I'll tell you right the hell now, I am NOT afraid of you. Never have been and never f*****g will be. You seem to think that you're untouchable but the false empire you've built is falling down all around you. Soon, you will be nothing but some common f*****g criminal that I will enjoy taking down with every fibre of my being. I will not, however, let you drag Emilia down with you, so let her go!" I had always known that Caleb was a great cop but nothing prepared me for seeing him in action. He held Soren's glare, never once backing down from the face off despite the chill in the air and the fact that Soren's men were way more than the policemen milling around. Policemen who are, no doubt, on Soren's payroll...This could go south pretty quick and end really badly for him... His bravery was more than admirable, his push to protect me and keep me safe from Soren warming my heart inconsiderably. His care meant more to me than he would ever know. Which was why the need to also keep him safe engulfed me, pushed me to hold Soren back with my body-no matter how futile the endeavor- just as he began to take a threatening step towards his newest arch enemy. "You think you're some hotshot for that pathetic soapbox speech, don't you? You really think you have the power to tell me what to f*****g do? To threaten my position in the Kingdom I built? To touch my woman, my wife, in front of me?!" I groaned in exasperation, avoiding Caleb's widened gaze at Soren's last statement. He had revealed exactly what I had been avoiding. A conversation I hoped to broach when we were in a calmer environment and away from the furious man behind me who was still itching to attack our stunned speechless detective. "Wife? You got married? To him?! When? And why the hell would you make such a crazy f*****g decision, Em?! He's a killer! A f*****g psychopath! Whatever he promised you, he was f*****g lying and you know it, deep down. He can't be trusted! None of those evil bastards can!" Caleb dropped my hand like it had burnt him at the news, his words ringing with some truths that were hard to hear. It stung, though, deep down. Irked me that he was judging them so harshly, making statements without really truly knowing them and that part of me scared me so much, I took a small step back and right into Soren. It was not that Cabe's anger was misplaced and his disappointment. I understood it, knew he just wanted what was best for me. Right now, that is finding Noah and Soren is the closest I have gotten to it... "And now you resort to insults. Seems you are all a bunch of incompetent bastards after all. I thought you gathered information on everything I did. How then did you not know of our nuptials and subsequent happy marriage? We just returned from our honeymoon actually. It was very satisfying. Left me feeling famished for more of my beautiful wife..." My flush was deep, more so at Caleb's glare directed at my husband who was goading him on, pushing him to make the dumb decision of confronting him. I wanted to tell Cabe, to urge him to calm down but the damage had already been done. The detective was furious, longing to attack my infuriating husband no doubt. "f**k you, you bastard! Taking advantage of someone for your own evil damn gains!" Caleb clenched his fists, taking a threatening step forward that was returned by my victoriously smirking husband. He had achieved his objective, riled up his opponent well enough for a possible fight. Exactly what he wanted. "I would much rather f**k you up, rip your damn spine out and choke you with it to death for laying a finger on my woman!" The threat was chilling, the calm finality in his tone settling over all of us, including Caleb who seemed momentarily taken aback and cautious of the mad man I was now barely holding back. I could not stand seeing another m******e unfold. Not again. "For your information, you f*****g i***t, she approached me. She agreed to marry me. Not you or i***t number f*****g two. Me. None of you deserved her. None of you ever f*****g will because she belongs to me now and no one else. So go ahead, try and take me down. Give me a damn challenge for once in your miserable existence. Come at me with everything you've got-pathetic and insignificant as it may be. Let's see who shall be left standing at the end of our war." Soren's unhinged grin was enough to silence Caleb who struggled and failed to hold Soren's gaze. I could not blame him, though. The insanity the man possessed was not something that could easily be ignored. It is an unsettling and unsightly expression, enough to leave one f*****g petrified, especially at his threats. "Oh, and don't ever think of talking to my wife ever again. Don't look at her. Don't touch her. Don't even f*****g think of her because if you do, I will destroy you. Your family, your friends, your f*****g pet...everything that you own will become nothing. You will become nothing. And when I am satisfied that you have fallen into despair, I will kill you slowly, torture you all whilst reminding you exactly why you never f**k with me or mine." Never had I heard a threat delivered so silently but with so much weight, it made my knees weak. My body was engulfed with absolute fear at his deathly gaze. In this moment, he was the true King of Sin, a figure of absolute despair who destroyed those that defied him. Caleb seemed to see this, to understand the tenacity of his words for he backed away, not once following us as we made our way out of the wrecked club. He sensed the danger, the fact that Soren meant every word. And he would be able to make it all happen in an instant... ***
