Leonardo's POV
Those words of affirmation sounded like music to my ears.
I watched her on her knees, pleading to be my wife.
I walked towards her and helped her to her feet.
“You don't have to cry.”
She sniffled, wiping away the tears from her eyes.
“You need to get some rest. We'll have a better conversation tomorrow.”
I turned and went ahead to take my leave.
But just as I pulled the door open, I found Sergey standing behind.
“You're eavesdropping.” I said firmly.
“You want to marry her,” he replied without giving me an answer to my question.
I looked straight into his eyes, firmly keeping an unwavering eye contact with him.
“How much did you hear?”
“I heard just enough.”
I remained mute as I headed to my room.
I think Sergey sometimes forgets that he's an underboss.
He followed me like a bee trying to get nectar from a flower.
I walked into my room and he did the same. Then I sat on my high back chair, poured myself a glass of whiskey and relaxed to enjoy it.
“You're not talking to me, Leo.”
I pulled my brows together as I stared at him. “Have you forgotten that you were eavesdropping on my conversation?”
He took a deep breath as he cleared his throat. “I'm really sorry, but I was just trying to make sure you're not making the wrong decision.”
I smirked, leaning my head to my right hand which was supported by my elbow.
“Since when did encroaching into my private space have something to do with that?”
He swallowed hard as he noticed the firm glare in my eyes.
I was no longer messing around here.
“I'm…I'm really sorry.”
“You said you wanted to talk about someone, right?”
He nodded firmly. “Yes!”
“Get right to the point and leave my room when you're done.”
He cleared his throat while he remained standing. “I feel you made a huge mistake proposing to her.”
“Why do you say so?”
“You have a lot of enemies. She might be one of them,” he replied. “She doesn't even match up to your standard.”
I smirked. “I think I can see where all of this is coming from.”
He exhaled heavily. “I know how stubborn you can be, Leo. You need to be smart.”
“You don't have to worry about me, Sergey. I have everything under control.”
He turned to take his leave but stopped halfway. “I don't want you to lose your life because of a little slip up.”
He walked out of my room and then he shut the door behind him.
I emptied the glass of whiskey before me, and dropped the cup on the table.
If only he understands the reason I took this decision.
I'm not looking for a wife. I need her to be married to me if I actually want to get revenge.
I leaned back on the chair and folded my arms, staring at the space right before me.
The first part of the plan has been accomplished with success, so I guess it's time to move to the next part.
I summoned her personal maiden which I had assigned to her and gave her a dress.
“What is this for, sir?” She appeared puzzled, eyes darting between the dress in her hand and my firm expression.
“I need her to get dressed in that.”
“Alright, sir.” She turned to leave.
“Onw more thing.” I said, forcing her to stop. “I'll be waiting for her in the living room.”
I took a deep breath and pulled open my wardrobe.
It's been a while since I went to any event in town.
It was time to switch things up a little.
I grabbed a black tuxedo, and had my driver bring the car around while I waited for Natasha to meet me in the living room.
A few minutes later, I heard footsteps descending the stairs.
My eyes instinctively turned, waiting to catch a sight of her.
Damn!!
The dress hugged her curves like a second skin, and her face glowed with so much beauty.
Her beauty was close to throwing me off balance, but I got a hold of myself right away.
I allowed her to take the lead as we went to my Ferrari parked outside.
I helped get into the passenger seat, and I got into the driver's seat.
“I'll suggest that you strap your seatbelt.”
She pulled it out immediately and buckled it up.
I had two SUV convoy follow behind me as I drove to the event.
It was being organised by the board members of my company.
I pulled up from my car, and I grabbed Natasha’s hand in mine.
Interviewers swarmed around me like bees around flowers.
“Is she your fiancée? Who is she to you?” Questions erupted from different angles.
I stopped and cleared my throat. “She is my wife.”
That was my public declaration, and I had my bodyguards push the crowd away for me.
I walked into the hall, holding Natasha close to me.
This was very necessary if I wanted them to really believe that she's my wife.
“I never expected you to admit it publicly.” Natasha whispered into my ears.
“Don't get so full of yourself.” I said firmly.
We had a good time together at the event where I made sure to introduce her to a few important people.
“The General!” My name was echoed by Alexander Fernandez.
He walked across the hall to my table and shook my hand with a broad smile across his face.
“I didn't expect to see you, Alexander.”
He smiled. “Why won't I come down here? We've been partners for a long time. This is the least I can actually do.”
His eyes darted towards Natasha.
But I remained quiet. I didn't want to be the one to start that conversation.
“It looks like you've finally gotten a new fiancée after my daughter.”
I nodded gently. “Yeah.”
“You don't have to worry. It's not going to ruin business for us anyway.”
Speaking of the devil. Maya, his daughter, and my ex fiancée appeared out of nowhere and walked towards my table.
“How are you doing, darling?”
