chapter four

Natasha’s POV My brows pulled together as my eyes pivoted towards the beautiful lady who had her arms around Leonardo's chest. Alexander was quick to excuse himself like he planned for the two of them to meet. Leonardo flashed a piercing glare towards her, and she immediately took her hands off him. “Easy. I'm just trying to be sweet with you.” “Come on, Natasha. Let us leave.” Maya swiftly sat in his laps, wrapping her arms across his shoulder like he was all hers. “Don't be in a hurry.” Leonardo took a deep breath, literally giving me an expression of utter frustration. “What do you want?” She smiled, trailing her finger through his chest. “I want us to get back together,” she replied. “Just like the old times.” “That's not happening. As you can see, I'm married to her.” She took a mean glance at me, her eyes weighing me with just a single stare. “Are you trying to say that this low-life took my position?” “Get off me!!” Leonardo roared, his voice quaking the entire building. Maya froze in shock, slowly lifting herself off his lap without saying a single word. Then she stepped away from him as she trembled in terror. Leonardo stood up from his chair, held my hand gently and walked out of the hall. In no time, his car was driven to the entrance, we got in and he drove back to the villa without saying a single word to me. His eyes were firm, fixed to the road while he kept gritting his teeth. He walked into the house and went up straight to his room. I climbed the stairs to my room as well. But my mind wasn't at rest. I couldn't quite understand his sudden reaction towards her. I thought he's the type that always has his emotions in check, but his little confrontation with Maya looked like she made him lose control at that moment. I wonder what she did to him while they were still together. “What are you thinking about?” Leonardo's baritone voice startled me, and I felt my heart jump. My eyes darted between him and the shut door, wondering how buried I was in my thoughts that I didn't notice when he walked in here. I was so lost that I was unable to notice when he walked in. How could that have been possible? He snapped his fingers to my face. “Why do you keep getting lost in your thoughts?” I blinked repeatedly, snapping out of my head. “Oh, I'm sorry. I was literally carried away at that moment.” “I must apologise for that unruly behaviour earlier?” I smiled. “It's fine. I really don't blame her for behaving that way.” “What do you mean?” His brows furrowed. “I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that.” He paused, cleared his throat and leaned back on the sofa. “I'm sure you have a few questions for me.” It's about time he gave me the audience to ask him some questions. I've been so curious to know a lot of things since he asked me to marry him. I nodded softly, carefully trying to see if he's being serious. His eyes were firm, and there was nothing showing that he was bluffing in any way. “Yes, I actually have just one question that has been plaguing my mind for a while now.” “You can go ahead and ask. I'm listening.” I cleared my throat, sitting upright on the bed. “Why did you ask me to marry you?” He made it certain to me that he wasn't getting married to me because of emotions. He was firm with his words, and I seriously don't understand why he would propose to a lady that doesn't love. He smiled, staring at me like there was suddenly something enticing on my face at the moment. I became puzzled, brows furrowed with a narrowed gaze, waiting for him to give me an answer. “I did that for one reason,” he said. “I did that because I seriously want revenge.” “Revenge? What do you mean? How's that possible?” I was thrown into a frenzy of several questions begging for one answer. “Your father, Thomas Reeds, owes me his head, and he must pay.” I swallowed hard, and the air in the room suddenly became hard to breathe. Fear cloaked my nerves, my heart racing at its peak as perspiration trailed down my forehead. “I…I have no idea of what my father did to you.” I stuttered. “He is the reason my family was murdered right in front of me, and all I could do at that time was…run.” His voice was soaked in grief, and I could see the pain hidden in his eyes. His fingers curled into a fist, and he clenched his jaw. “I…I have no idea. Trust me…I…” “This happened twenty years ago.” “I was just…I was just a little child when all of this happened.” Tears were already trailing down my eyes. I didn't want to die for what my father did. He should be the one paying for his sins and not me. Leonardo gave a cold smile while he looked straight into my eyes. “You don't have anything to be scared about. I want your father, not you.” This doesn't make sense to me, but those words drive a sudden calmness into me. “I don't understand.” He leaned forward. “I want your father to pay, and you are going to help me find him.” I could see the fury in his eyes. That pain…that grief…they were all turned into his rage over the past few years. “But how can I help? I'm useless to you.” He smirked. “You might think so, but you're the most important piece in this puzzle.” “How's that possible?” “With you, I'm going to pull your father out of his rat hole and kill him with my barehanded, squeezing the life out of body.” I swallowed hard. “I'm ready to do whatever you want me to do.” He smiled as he leaned back. “That's exactly what I wanted to hear.”
