I stare at the circled interview schedule for another second.
Tomorrow.
You’ll be first.
If Davis starts asking the right questions, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to keep the truth about Mai a secret.
That thought keeps pounding in my head.
I close the folder and stand.
I need to leave.
Whatever Davis suspects can wait until tomorrow.
Right now, Mum and Mai need me.
I grab my bag and walk out of the conference room.
The hallway is almost empty.
Most of the employees have already left for the night, and the quiet makes my footsteps sound louder than they should.
I don't stop until I reach the elevator.
As the doors close, I finally let out the breath I've been holding.
My phone is already in my hand.
There are two missed calls from Lucy.
