It’s been three full weeks since I was taken. Three weeks since everything shifted. I keep asking myself if I made the right decision if walking away from that moment was the beginning of healing or just another scar.

“What if I don’t want to?” I had asked Vorian. Not because I didn’t want to complete the mating bond, but because I didn’t want to do it out of obligation. I needed it to be real not a transaction of protection, not a duty.
His brows furrowed. “What do you mean?” I could see the hurt flash across his face, and for a moment, I regretted saying it out loud.
“I don’t want Oren. I’m grateful to be rid of him. But I’m not going to finish the mating process just because it’s your responsibility. I’m not a task you need to check off your list.”
