Kavira slept soundly beside me, her back pressed to my chest, my arm draped possessively around her waist. The warmth of her skin against mine felt right like something I didn’t know I’d been missing until it was suddenly mine.
I’d never been the type to cuddle. Too many nights alone. Too many mornings waking up with someone who didn’t matter. But this? This was different. This was something I could get used to.
My mind, however, wouldn’t settle. Even as I lay there in the stillness of dawn, I was already planning. She could work from my office if needed. I'd make that happen unless it put her in danger. And once Oren was finally dealt with, she could come and go as she pleased. Freedom.
