I just smiled and nodded, letting it all sink in.
“Thanks again. Ready, Kavira?” Vorian asked, his hand pressing gently against the small of my back.
Sliding off the table, I headed toward the door.
“Oh, and congratulations! I’m thrilled the pack will finally have an heir!”
The doctor’s voice made me pause. When I turned, his grin stretched unnaturally wide, almost eerie, sending a ripple of unease through me.
“Uh… thanks,” I muttered, giving a stiff little wave before practically bolting out the door.
Vorian lengthened his stride to match mine, though it felt less like walking and more like escaping. The moment we stepped outside, the air hit my lungs with relief. I hadn’t realized how suffocated I’d felt until now.
