I thought for a second before responding.
"Well… Melanie Shaw is kind of a big deal. Are you sure you want to break up with her? Maybe give her another chance?"
I wasn't defending her exactly, but I didn't want him thinking I was thrilled she was out of the picture. What if he thought I wanted to take her place? That would've been even worse.
Arthur's face darkened instantly.
"You think I'd take back a woman who cheated on me?"

What did he expect me to say? That she got what she deserved? That I was glad they broke up? I was just an accidental audience member.
