Chapter 36: The Sudden Kiss
"What's that supposed to mean? When was I ever involved with Julian?"
Arthur's blunt question hit a nerve. I was already simmering with frustration, and now he had the nerve to throw Julian's name at me.
"Serena Cole, you'd better explain yourself. I won't tolerate a woman who's been tainted."
His tone was sharp and frigid. Even with sunglasses shielding his eyes, I could feel the cold hostility radiating from him.
"You already looked into my past with Julian, didn't you? You know he's my ex. We broke up. If you can't handle that I've had a relationship before, then that's your problem."
His sudden interrogation had snapped what little patience I had left. My words came out harsher than I intended.
