The Unanswered Frame
A 4-Episode Limited Horror Series Script
Episode 1: “The Inheritance”
FADE IN:
INT. OLD VICTORIAN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY
The room is dusty and forgotten, with heavy furniture and faded wallpaper. Sunlight filters weakly through lace curtains.
EMMA (30s, practical, city-weary) stands with a REAL ESTATE AGENT, surveying the space.
REAL ESTATE AGENT
Your great-aunt left everything to you. No other family. She was… eccentric.
Emma’s eyes land on the wall: a large, ornate mahogany picture frame, beautifully carved with vines and flowers—but completely empty.
EMMA
What’s with the empty frame? It’s huge.
REAL ESTATE AGENT (uneasy)
She hung it years ago. Said it was for something special. Never got around to filling it, I guess.
Emma touches the cold glass.
EMMA
I’ll find something for it.
CUT TO:
INT. VICTORIAN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Emma unpacks boxes alone. The house creaks.
She glances at the frame. It’s still empty, but in the low light, the center seems… darker.
Suddenly, faint SCRATCHING from downstairs.
Emma freezes.
EMMA (whisper)
Rats?
She grabs a flashlight and heads down.
The scratching stops. The frame looms innocently.
Emma shines the light: a subtle shadow in the center, like a void pulling in the beam.
She shakes it off.
CLIFFHANGER CLOSE-UP: The empty frame. For a split second, a hazy outline flickers—tall, thin—and vanishes.
FADE OUT.

Episode 2: “Whispers in the Walls”
FADE IN:
INT. VICTORIAN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - EVENING
Days later. Emma sips tea on the couch, staring at the frame.
EMMA (to herself)
What were you supposed to hold?
The air grows cold. A faint OUTLINE forms inside the frame—a shadowy silhouette of a person.
Emma bolts up, approaches.
She touches the glass: ice-cold.
The outline fades.
CUT TO:
INT. ATTIC - NIGHT
Emma rummages through boxes. Finds old letters.
She reads one aloud:
EMMA (reading)
“He was always framing the perfect shot… but some things are better left unanswered.”
The letter mentions her aunt’s fiancé, a photographer who vanished decades ago.
CUT TO:
INT. LIVING ROOM - MIDNIGHT
Whispers fill the room, soft and indistinct.
Emma wakes, races downstairs.
The frame vibrates slightly. The silhouette is clearer—gaunt, hollow eyes.
EMMA (terrified)
Who are you?
CLIFFHANGER: The whispers form words: “Don’t… leave me…”
The figure presses against the glass.
FADE OUT.
END OF EPISODE 2
Episode 3: “Unfinished”
FADE IN:
INT. VICTORIAN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Storm rages outside.
Emma, shaken, researches online about the missing fiancé.
The scratching returns—louder, desperate.
She confronts the frame.
The figure is almost fully visible now: a man in agony, shadowy and incomplete. GHOSTLY VOICE (rasping from the frame)
Unfinished… don’t leave me unfinished.
Emma backs away.
EMMA
You’re… him? Her fiancé?
Flashback glimpses: The aunt preparing a wedding photo, the frame meant for their portrait. His sudden disappearance—trapped eternally because no image was ever placed.
Emma grabs a hammer.
EMMA
I’m smashing it!
She raises it—but freezes as the figure lunges, hands distorting the glass. The room plunges into darkness.
Emma screams.
CLIFFHANGER: Blackout. When lights flicker back, Emma is gone. The frame hangs silent… but something has changed.
FADE OUT.
END OF EPISODE 3
Episode 4: “Filled at Last” (Finale)
FADE IN:
INT. VICTORIAN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - MORNING
Police search the house. Neighbors reported screams.
The room is pristine.
An OFFICER approaches the wall.
OFFICER
Wait… this wasn’t here before.
CLOSE-UP: The frame is no longer empty.
Inside: a perfect, lifelike image of Emma—wide-eyed, mouth open in terror, frozen forever. The shadowy man is gone. The frame is filled.
OFFICER (chilled)
What the hell is this?
The camera lingers on Emma’s trapped face.
Final whisper, barely audible: “Answered…”
FADE TO BLACK.
