Third morning. Noise broke out at the camp gate. The volunteer on duty blocked someone's way. "No appointment, no entry." I looked toward the gate. Elena had her hands gripped around the rusty bars. She was alarmingly thin. Her hair hung in lank strands. A khaki shirt stuck to her back, wrinkled. "Chloe." She called my name through the bars. The volunteer turned back to look at me. I stuffed my lens cloth into my pocket and gave a nod. The iron gate swung open. Elena walked in, unsteady on her feet, kicking up wisps of yellow dust. "I tracked down Arthur's itinerary."
