Make Him A Friend

1388 Words
The next day, Kin woke up to an empty bed and a weird feeling, there wasn’t anyone hugging his side, he didn’t feel that warmth and it was a bit cold, but he liked it, he was able to sleep comfortably last night and move around the bed as he wished.     It was 7:30 am, he had to get ready if he wanted to reach Leonard’s location in time; based on the address he got from Leonard, it would take 15 minutes to reach him, with a car. And unlike his other days, he could take his time and not be worried about anyone disturbing him. It was silent all around the room and in the house as well, he walked around the first floor and went to the room, that was supposed to be Lucas and found Lucas in the room and then walked to Layla’s room, and found her sleeping there as well.     He thought they would sleep together but guess not, he didn’t want to wake them up, so he got a sticky note from a drawer and wrote: {I am going out to my job interview, I took Lucas’s keys with me, good luck with your work and studies, I hope you won’t be angry because of this, I love you too.} He stuck it to the fridge, he knew Lucas would at least drink water before he left, so he was sure they would find it.     At 8:45 am, he left the house and got a taxi to drive him, to Leonard’s location, he was lucky he had money from the credit card his parents gave him. Even though Kin didn’t have breakfast, his stomach was full of nervousness and anxiety, and that didn’t go away until he left Leonard’s office, still not sure if he got a job or not, he only knew he was done with the interview and he can go hom..to their house.     He was walking home, he wanted to stretch his legs and look around the city; he was enjoying his walk, when he got a call from Layla, who asked where he was, he told her he was walking and that he would be back later. “And shouldn’t you be in class right now?”     “The teacher is late; speaking of the devil, she is here; come back home safe.”     “Okay, take care.” Kin said and hang up before Layla could tell him she loved him; no problem, she would tell him when they are home together.     Kin continued his walk until a familiar car stopped in front of him, the window rolled down and the person was revealed, to be none other than the man he was with an hour or so ago.   “Leonard?” Kin asked to confirm that the person in front of him was indeed Leonard and it was.   “Want me to give you a ride home?” Leonard asked since he thought that Kin was going to walk to their house from here, which was a bit far away, and if he got him home, Lucas would thank him and like him more. Originally, he was going on a long drive around the city, to calm down his nerves after losing a deal a few hours ago, because of a mistake one of his employees made.   “N…” Kin was going to refuse but then he remembered the way bad and how long it was, and he was hungry and tired, it was better to accept this time. “Actually yes, my feet are starting to hurt, I would really appreciate it if you do.”   “Get in.”     “Thank you.” Kin said after he got inside.   “No need to thank me, we are friends after all.”   “No, we are not.” Kin responded coldly, he didn’t even bat an eye or turn to look at Leonard, who was shocked with his response, people usually beg to be his friends, but he always refused them because he knew they were only after his money and not him, they didn’t want to be friends with him, they wanted to be friends with his money, it was kind of depressing knowing that, it made him regret ever becoming successful and wealthy.     Leonard left his family’s house, to try and become independent and different from what his family wanted from him, he succeeded in being independent, but that wasn’t satisfying as he thought it would be, because in the end, he became what he feared, a money-making machine for them, not a person.     Now his family members always ask him for money, in every family gathering and his parents expect him to take care of his siblings' expenses, not that he minded, but it broke him that every time he went home, his parents would ask him to pay for something for them, his cousins would suddenly want to hand out with him when they never talk to him all year, his aunts would push their daughters on him and his uncles would ask for a position in one of his companies; they never asked about him, how he was doing, his personal life or mental state, it’s always the money.     Luckily for him, it wasn’t all bad, he had two cousins who liked him for him and he would occasionally talk to them and hang out with them when he could, at least he had them and Charles. Charles was dear to him, the best friend anyone could ask, he wished he had someone else like Charles in his life, someone who wouldn’t like him for his wealth and wouldn’t think about his money when his name came in mind, or maybe someone who didn’t like him, that would be fun, to be friends with someone who disliked him, that’s a challenge he was willing to take.   “......nard, Leonard!”   “Yes!” Leonard woke up from his daze and looked at Kin, he wondered when he lost his focus but that wasn’t the time, he was at a red light and he heard a beep from behind them.   “It’s a green light.” Kin said and pointed at the light so that Leonard could start moving and not keep staring at him.   “Oh yeah.” Leonard started the car and sped away from the traffic sign.   ‘What happened to him?’ Kin asked himself, he stared at Leonard, who looked as if he got his favorite toy in his hands, with a creepy smile on his face and a satisfied look, was it because he told him they weren’t friends? But it was true! They barely knew each other and didn’t even have a solid conversation, they are barely not strangers at this point, let alone friends.   “Do you want to go to my house sometime later?” Leonard asked shamelessly with an innocent smile, as he stopped in front of Lin and Layla’s house. If Kin didn’t like him, he was going to make him like him and be friends with him.   “Huh? Why?” Lin asked him, as he stopped halfway through opening the door, wondering why Leonard would need his phone number.   “To discuss the attempted murder in detail, I don’t know much about it after all.” Leonard had the perfect excuse and didn’t need to lie, he did need to know about the murder if he was going to help, they should investigate together and spend time to know what happened and who didn’t.     “Sure, when?”     “Tonight?”     “No, I have things to do.” Kin said and those things he needed to do, were having a talk to Lucas and Layla as well, about the future and their relationship.     “Then tomorrow night?”     “Does it have to be at night?”     “Yes, that’s the only time I am free.” Leonard had to spend all his days working, so his only alone time was from 8 pm to 7 am.     “Be it tomorrow night then.” Kin agreed and got down from the car, he thanked Leonard again and walked to the front of the house, while Leonard smiled and thought of a way to become closer to Kin.
