Stolen Car

1318 Words
It had been a long day for Layla, she was dead tired and ready to sleep, to eat dinner and cuddle with Kin, she didn’t have her car today, it was in the carwash and she was going to get it tomorrow morning, she was walking with earphones in, when an unknown car stopped in front of her, she simply ignored it, she thought that it was someone waiting for someone, but when the car followed her and stopped in front of her, she assumed it was someone trying to hit on her which got her annoyed and ready to face the person whoever it was, to give them a piece of her mind.     But instead of a stranger exiting the car, it was Nicholas, her friend from high school, what was he doing here? And that wasn’t his car, she knew it was an expensive car, just by the looks of it and Nicholas was in their school with a scholarship and was working three part-time jobs to cover the expenses of living close to the high school, she knew that because she was close to him and he told her all of this when they were on a lunch break, and he also told her that although his mother’s family was rich, they wouldn’t give him a penny and if he asked for something from them, he will have to return in double or triple, so why is someone like with a car like that? Where the heck did he get that car from?   “Where did you get this car from?” Layla asked him, she stood right in front of the car and looked at it carefully, it was indeed an expensive-looking car. Nicholas laughed and didn’t answer at first, which got her to ask something else. “Did you borrow it from your cousin? You know she is going to ask you for outrageous money for anything you get from her and a car like this, she will ask for your part-time money that’s worth years.” “I didn’t get it from her, it’s from a friend.” Nicholas responded, but Layla still looked suspicious, there was no way a friend would give out a car like that.   “That’s very suspicious and what kind of friend is that? This car looks extremely expensive, how can you afford to even ride it?” Layla crossed her arms and waited for another explanation from her dear friend, who was horrible with managing his money, who ran out of them and decided to tell the truth.     “I found it with the car keys in when I was walking home, nobody was near it and I decided to take my chance, and take it.” Nicholas said and waited for Layla to scold him and she did not disappoint, she yelled, told him of the consequences, about what that person, who worked hard to get the car, was feeling and made him feel all the guilt he didn’t have half an hour ago.     “We are going to the police and we are going say we found it in the middle of an abandoned road, get in, stupid.” Layla said as she got in the driver’s seat, Nicholas got in the passenger seat and didn’t know if he should be thankful for spotting Layla walking, for saving him from possible jail time, or regret it, he will let his future self decide, for now, he will follow her.     Once Layla spotted a police station, she stopped the car and got out, told Nicholas to stay there, and went inside; half an hour later, she walked out with a police officer and told Nicholas to get out, because they were leaving; she thanked the officer after giving the car keys and dragged away Nicholas with her.     “Just like that?” Nicholas asked confusedly, he thought it would be a long process and they would question them more and not believe them at first, or wait till the owner was there, how did she do it in such a short period?     “My last name is not Yuen for nothing.” Layla said with a wink and laughed at Nicholas's confused expression. “Rich people stuff Niki, don’t worry yourself about it.”     “Okay, thanks, I will treat you to lunch tomorrow.” Nicholas offered, even though he had a tight budget, he wanted to properly thank Layla for helping him, because, after some thinking, he realized how bad of an idea it was to steal a car, that could have ruined his future forever and make his father disappointed in him, forever.     “No need, instead help with my math homework.” Layla said, she knew that when it came to school-related things, Nicholas was the person to ask, be it explaining classes or helping with assignments or homework.     “Alright, let’s go to my house, it’s close by, you have the textbook with you now, right?” Nicholas asked just in case, they had maths this morning but he didn’t know if she still had her textbook or not.     “Yeah but….” Layla had a plan for today, to go and cuddle Kin to death, while he was still jobless and staying in the house, but she needed to do her schoolwork or else her parents will tell her to quit her job.     “The homework is due the day after tomorrow and I have two shifts tomorrow unless you want me to help you tomorrow night, at 11 or 12 pm, or let me do it for you.” Nicholas had a full schedule and only days like today, where the days he had any free time, at least from 7 pm till tomorrow morning when school start.     “But I want to understand it, what if the teacher calls me to the board?” Layla sighed and decided that it was best to go study now, she can cuddle Kin another night.     She texted Kin and Lucas, she told them she was going to study with a friend and convinced Lucas to pick her up when she would be done, and with that, she was ready to go study with Nicholas.     While Layla felt bad for not being able to go home and cuddle with Kin, she had no idea that if she did go home, she wouldn’t have found Kin there, because minutes before she sent the text message, about not coming home, he was debating on what to tell her and Lucas, lucky for him, she wasn’t going to be home getting but what about Lucas? What should he tell him?     He thought of that as he was getting ready and decide to be honest with Lucas, he didn’t need to lie and that was the biggest mistake of his life, for now, after he sent him a text; and only him, not in the group chat, he didn’t want Layla to know about his meeting with Leonard; he immediately got a response asking him a dozen of questions and the last text was Lucas informing him that he was coming and that he should wait for him.   For a second, Kin thought about running away and never turning back, but then he abandoned the idea and told himself that he was a man, he shouldn't be afraid of anything, not Lucas or his scary tone of voice, he was going to face him and stand up for himself. He got ready and waited for Lucas in the living room, his leg was nervously shaking but he ignored it, and after ten minutes of waiting, he heard a familiar beep so he got up, after he took a deep breath and opened the door, only to close it immediately after when he saw Lucas's expression. "Screw being a man, I should have run away."                                                                  Knock Knock
