It was 10 pm and Kin was starting to get tired and wanted to sleep, which he didn't want to happen, because in case someone came to rescue him and to stop himself from falling asleep, he asked Leonard to tell him a story or something about himself.
And with that, Leonard decided to tell Kin a story about himself, about how he met his only friend, Charles, the only person he considered to be his true friend.
“We met at a drinking party, one between my company and his, I was surrounded by men and women, who wanted to talk to me about either my business or personal life, I liked the attention at first but I got suffocated with it at some point an decided to walk out for a smoke break, I don’t smoke, by the way, it was an excuse. I went to the bathroom and washed my face, and found him there, I didn’t recognize him but he did and he showed pity towards me for how I looked, I was tired and exhausted from talking to multiple people at a time and having to focus on each of them before I left the bathroom, he asked me if I wanted to run away with him, and I agreed, I already had my phone and keys with me, and I told my assistant to get me any stuff I missed. We went to a bar and drank together all night, I enjoyed my night for the first time in months that day and I was sure to repeat it again and again. And we eventually became friends, we would go out for meals, to play games, to practice sport, to watch movies and do anything, as long as I am with him, I don’t feel the time passing, he is understanding, always listens to me, nice and fun to be around, I am glad I met him.”
“You seem to like him.” Kin said with a chuckle, he was a bit jealous of Leonard for finding such a close friend, because he didn’t have any, his friends were only friends, people he hung out with when he was bored, they were his college friends and he didn’t feel close to any of them in particular. But maybe that was his fault, he never opened up to any of them and didn’t allow them or himself to be close to them, he had trust issues and didn’t like talking about himself, which was something his friends disliked about him and complained about when they hang out, they didn’t like how they talked to him about their life and he didn’t, he just couldn’t help it.
“I do.” Leonard said with a smile and made a plan in his head, to invite Charles over when Kin would leave, to stay the night in his place, he haven’t seen him in a few days and it would be fun to play a game with him.
“I am jealous.” Kin admitted.
“Don’t you have any close friends?” Leonard asked and leaned behind the bathroom door to get closer to Kin and hear him.
“No.” In this scenario, Kin was talking about himself, because the body he was in, had a close friend who he lost touch with but he didn’t.
“I can be your friend.” Leonard offered and hoped for Kin not to reject him for the third time, but he did.
“No thanks.”
“Why are you so unwilling to be my friend?”
“Because you are the reason they lost their life.” Kin was drunk with sleepiness, he was barely keeping his eyes open and one fact to know about him when he was sleepy was that he would be awfully honest and answer anything truthfully.
“Who? I never killed anyone or was never the reason for someone’s death.” Leonard was confused, maybe he destroyed some lives when he fired certain employees, but they had it coming, he never fired someone who didn’t deserve to lose their job; and other than those people, he never was the reason for someone losing their life.
“Not now, but you will be soon.” Kin replied which got Leonard even more confused, because if it was something that haven’t happened before, why would Kin know about it? But in either case, he was going to defend himself against these accusations.
“The future is undetermined and it can always change, if you didn’t get stuck in the bathroom, you could have been out now doing something else but you aren’t, and maybe by becoming my friend, no one will lose his life, you never know and you should never conclude things when basing your ideas on time, a drop of a pen can change the future of a person.” Leonard said and it got Kin into thinking of everything he had done so far, he based all his knowledge on what he read in the book, but half of it was false at this time.
What he can take as being true was what happened in the past, before he got inside Kin’s body because the moment he did, everything changed, which meant that Leonard might not be as bad as he was in the book, maybe he can change him, but….
“You make a good point but I also hate your attitude and playboy persona.” I’m never liked how Leonard acted, he was cocky, arrogant, too confident in himself and his looks, and a womanizer, who broke a lot of girls' hearts, or at least that was his description at the start of the book.
“I will be different around you, my attitude around girls isn’t the same one as around my friends, I am what girls want when I am around them but I am me when I am around who I want to be with.” Leonard changed his behavior based on the people he was around, he wore different masks to please everyone, his persona had to please everyone, be it his employees, girlfriends, ‘friends’, or his business partners.
“What would I get out of this friendship?” Kin joked, he was starting to get sold on the idea of being friends with Leonard, the description in the book was the one when he was around girls or in his company, maybe he would be different with friends.
And he was never described when he was around friends in the book, and Charles was only mentioned near the middle of the book when Leonard was beginning to change.
When Leonard was around Charles in the book, he was a different person and he hoped that he would be like that with him as well.
“A great friend and a rich one at that.” Leonard responded with a chuckle.
“If you promise to get me something every month, I will agree.” Kin said, as a joke but Leonard took it seriously and nodded until he remembered Kin was behind the door.
“I promise.”
Kin decided to continue with the joke and say: “I will stick 1000 needles in your eye if you miss a month.”
“I give you permission to do that.” Leonard said, which made Kin be impressed by his seriousness of becoming friends and he decided to stop with the jokes.
“I will be your friend then.” Kin said and stuck a few of his fingers from the void in the door, and told Leonard to shake them.
“Thank you.” Leonard laughed and did so.
“No thanks, if we become friends, don’t thank me for everything unless I need to be thanked, and don’t say sorry unless you need to be sorry, those are the two rules of being my friend.” Kin has always made all of his friends agree to those conditions, because he hated those two words the most, for a multitude of reasons, one of them being, he had to say them throughout his childhood to be able to live and he grew to hate the fact that he had to apologize and thank everyone to be able to eat and not be abused.
It wasn’t a pleasant memory for him, he didn’t like thinking about his childhood, it was in a box locked with a broken that he didn’t want to fix, he wanted it to stay locked forever.
Back to Leonard who accepted the rules and wanted to make ones of his own, which Kin agreed to, if he was going to have rules of his own, Leonard should have ones too, if they were reasonable of course.
“Hmm, you will be my personal choices chooser and you have to say yes to everything I say when I am sad.” Leonard laid out the rules he thought of at that second, the first rule he already thought of long ago, he was going to ask Kin to do that without it being a rule but it will be better, this way, even when Charles would be busy, he would have someone else to ask.
“Deal but I will decide what type of sad I will say yes to.” Kin said and yawned, and decided to close his eyes for a bit.
“No problem. And are you sleepy? Your voice is one of a drunk person, who was struggling to stay conscious and I know a lot of those.” Leonard declared and Kin agreed to his words and said he was sleepy, which then got Leonard to suggest he slept on the bathtub with the toilet paper box for a pillow and the bath curtains as a blanket and told him he would wake him up when someone would come to help.
Kin agreed because he couldn’t stay awake anymore and went to the tub as Leonard told him and got himself comfortable, he fell asleep rather quickly. Leonard went to the kitchen to cook himself pasta and even left some for Kin; but before he could start eating, he heard a bang on the door and he went to check who it was.
“Lucas?” He asked when he opened the door, to find the 185 centimeters man in front of him, with an angry expression. Lucas busted in the house and asked where Kin was, it was 11:15 pm and he wasn’t out bad he assumed Leonard held him back from leaving so he came to get him, only to find out that his dear Kin was stuck in the bathroom, which prompted him to go to his car, get a metal baseball bat and marge to the said bathroom.
He took the first swing and it didn’t do much to the bathroom’s handle, so he kept hitting until the handle became loose and he also knocked out the space around the handle and took it out. He dropped the bat and walked in, to find Kin sleeping like an angel in the bathtub, still being a heavy sleeper as ever.
With a smile on his face, Lucas walked to Kin and took him in his arms, and walked out of Leonard’s house, but not before warning of something like this happening again.
“He is stronger than I thought.” Leonard commented while he was eating his pasta, a bit sad that Kin left before tasting his pasta, it came out to be delicious.
