On a bright Sunday morning, Kin woke up to the feeling of something hugging him from the side, he opened his eyes and found Lucas on his side, and remembered that he allowed Lucas to sleep next to him, as a part of their bet; Lucas would sleep next to Kin for every day passed that he didn’t have a lover.
Kin tried to find someone for Lucas, but the problem was that he had no friends and no acquaintances, he only knew people from his workspace, and because he doesn’t want to ruin that, he forgot about it too and with that, he had no one to talk to or suggest to Lucas as a potential lover, except the one and only Leonard, who was caving at his home for the past two days.
After those days that he had to spend straight in the office, Leonard was worn out and hired someone to take care of his business for a few days, until he got back on his feet and was able to work; it was the third day of his break, the first break he had for years, he didn’t know what to do.
Usually, Leonard would be either at work, clubs, or with his girlfriends, but now, he had no work, there are no clubs in the morning or noon, and he didn’t want to bother any of his girlfriends because they had a life that they wanted to live and he doesn’t want to disturb that with his selfishness, and decided to only call one of them at the evening, when they were either out of their classes or work, which left the morning free.
In the past two days, he stayed in his room and played video games, but on the third day, he decided to venture out and cook himself breakfast, rather than just cup noodles every day.
“Where is the salt?” Leonard asked himself, as he looked around his kitchen, trying to find the number one most important ingredient, that he knew he placed on the second shelf on the right cabinet, but for some reason, he couldn’t find it.
“Are you looking for something?” Jack, his cousin, who he forgot existed and the author did too, but here he was, showing up out of the blue, to be part of the plot again, what an exciting thing to read, mark my sarcasm.
“Yes, the salt.” Leonard said and wondered if Jack was the one who misplaced it, and indeed he did, he put it on the third shelf on the farthest cabinet from the stove. “Thanks and next time, put the things back to their original location please.” Leonard took the salt and didn’t pay much attention to Jack, even though he tried to interact with him in numerous ways.
“Why are you so mean to me? What did I do to deserve this?” Jack asked in a sad voice, he had been bottling it up ever since he started living with Leonard, he was ignored and didn’t say anything, he was told to stay away, he stayed away, he was told to mind his business, he minded his business but it was getting too much, and it hurt his feelings to be treated like that, he wasn’t a plastic plant at home that he should just be left in the corner, he wanted to be acknowledged.
“I am going, to be honest with you, I know you like me and I don’t want to give you any signals and the best way to do that is to not pay any attention to you, I don’t want to give any mixed signals or signs that I will be with you, so that’s why,” Leonard explained because of how pitiful Jack looked, he felt bad for him and decided to be honest.
“But….” Before Jack could finish his sentence, they heard the doorbell and Leonard got up to see who it was, not wanting to continue this conversation because he knew it won’t end well for any of them, and he still wanted to eat the breakfast that he just finished making.
It was Kin, who as soon as he opened the door, said: “Make Lucas your lover.”
"Excuse me?" Leonard asked, a bit confused and surprised at what Kin was asking him to do, was he making a joke? Because it was an extremely bad one.
"You said you are exploring your sexuality, right?" Kin said, remembering that last night, they talked about how their sexuality, and how Leonard wanted to try and sleep with guys, to see if he would feel anything or like it, which got him the idea to set him up with Lucas.
"Yeah but exploring it doesn't mean jumping in the monster's den, do you want me to get killed?" Leonard was still in level 2 maybe, and Lucas was level 193738, he won’t reach that until he was at least 79 and even at that age, he wouldn’t want to peruse Lucas because he knew how dangerous that would be for him and anyone around him.
"Oh, come on, Lucas isn't that bad, he is good-looking, rich, nice, and has a lovely personality." Kin tried to list some good things about Lucas but realized. He was just describing Leonard, since he was almost the same as Lucas, huh, weird how that worked.
"Go tell that to someone who doesn't know him, nice try but no." Leonard said and was about to close the door but Kim put his leg between the door and the frame and stopped him.
"You promised you would do me a favor and not refuse no matter what, remember?" Kin used his trump card, which Leonard couldn’t refuse, which he knew very well.
"NO! Just no, I can't, I am scared, okay? Being with him will hurt my pride because I know he isn't and will not be attracted to me, so let's not do this and just ask for something else." Leonard couldn’t agree on that, he would need years of therapy to be able to overcome the trauma of having dated Lucas.
"I will help you get on his good side." Kim tried to convince him but failed, as Leonard suggested it to buy him a house instead.
"I will talk about you with him and make him like you.” Kin
"Another company?" Leonard
"I will even be your deciding machine without any complaints.” Kin
"An island maybe?" Leonard
"Leonard, come on." Kin said with a smile and a glare, and Leonard stopped trying to reject him at that point and just stated that he hated him for this, dating Lucas would make years of his life disappear and would probably even make him bald but he was going to take the risk because he was a man of his words.
"Aw, thank you, now call Lucas and ask him to meet you somewhere, where you two can talk freely and comfortably, and another thing, you will break with all of your girlfriends while you are doing this:” Kin added another condition and that was couldn’t be accepted by Leonard, he loved his girlfriends and would never break with them for something like this.
"No, I can't, I won't, they are my love." Leonard refused dramatically.
"Seriously? All four or five of them? Are you an emperor in a historical drama?" Kin said which made Leonard pout, because of the very similar comparison that he hated, he was made fun of by a lot of his ‘friends’ for his relationships, they never affected him but this one, it did because he hated historical dramas the most, for their overdramatic scenarios and insensitivity towards some subjects, and he hated the emperors too because of how cruel and abusive most of them were.
And with that only, one sentence that hit the nail in the coffin, Kin was able to convince Leonard to break up with all of his girlfriends and flings, for now. After their interaction, Kin left and Leonard got back inside the house and held back his tears because he would need them when dating Lucas, that man would make him regret being born the way he was, he needed to be ready.
"Who was it?" Jack asked when Leonard got back inside with a depressed look on his face, looking as if someone told him his parents died or suffered from a tragedy, whatever happened on the door made a big impact on him.
"Kin, he wanted a favor from me." Leonard replied and sat down to eat his breakfast in silence, thinking about the excuses he would tell his girlfriends; he never broke up with someone, people were always the ones to break up with him, either because they disliked the idea of having other girlfriends or stopped liking him, he didn't have any experience of letting someone go, so he needed help and who else to help other than Charles, his knight in shinning armer, who only appread at the 41 chapter, what a best friend and awesome writer this book had.
