I Don’t Want To Be A Wife!

Unhealthy Obsession

  They were eating their ramen when Kin decided to talk to them about his job interview with Leonard, and he knew by what happened earlier, they weren’t going to react well to that news, they liked him to be at home, locked up and ‘safe’ but he was done with that.

  “I am getting a job.” Kin calmly said and drank his coke, while the two looked at each other with shock; Kin never, ever, talked about getting a job, he always talked about them and being with them, being their supportive older brother who would always stay with them and focus on them, what changed now?

  “Why? Do you want to buy something? I can give you an open check and you can get whatever you want.” Lucas said, he thought that Kin wanted to buy something and was embarrassed to ask their parents for money, after all, he always did.

  “No, I just want a job and to do something with my life.” Kin responded and added that he was sick and bored of staying home all day, which made them think, he just needed some time out of the country to get a new breeze, they can do that!

  “We can go on vacation then! To Hawaii, Bali, or Paris, anywhere you want.” Lucas suggested next and thought that Kin was tired of staying at home. He used to go out all day with him Layla and him, so it must be weird to be at home every day now, they can change, he doesn’t need to have a job.

  “I don’t want to live my life as if it’s a vacation, at least not until I am 60.” Kin responded and Lucas couldn’t come up with another excuse so Layla took matters into her own hands.

  “Then do you want to go to high school with me? Or go to the office with Lucas? How about that?” Layla said, with hopeful eyes, it almost made it hard for Kin to refuse but he did anyway, he can't live like that anymore, like a prisoner or rather their plaything.

  “No, I want to do something on my own.”

  “Why? Isn’t being with us enough?”

  “No." Kin said and shattered both of their hearts and hopes of him giving up the idea and continuing their old life. He saw their expression and elaborated on his idea: "My life goal isn’t being with you 24/7. Yes, I will be present in your lives but that doesn’t mean I am going to dedicate my whole existence to you or anyone, I wasn’t born to stick to you.” Well, that was a lie, the whole reason he was in this world was to stick to Lucas and Layla, and take care of them, but to be honest, those two creeped him out, there was a limitation on how close siblings can be and they were too close to him.

  They wake up in the same bed, go to the bathroom to brush their teeth at the same time, they tried to shower with him a couple of times, they hug him for at least five minutes, nine times out of ten of their times together, they kiss him at least five times a day, sometimes on the lips too, they get angry if he focused on the TV for too long and not on one of them, they stick to him like glue at night, they wanted to be in the same room as him when he was changing.

  It was cute and all at first, but now, he is weirded out by them and how attached they were to Kin, maybe he wasn’t the one for this mission, they are starting to scare him with the way they were acting as if he was their puppy and he owned them his life; perhaps that’s how the old Kin was and he was sure of that but that was not healthy, to be that obsessed with someone or to let someone be that obsessed with you.

  Kin treated them like his whole world and he can see that from his memories, but he can’t be like him, he tried, for weeks, he just can’t, he wasn’t him and he can’t pretend to be him, he was going to take care of them, as he said, but in his way, and to do that, their obsession with him had to be gone.

  After he got tired of the silence, Kin put down his chopsticks and took a deep breath, and said: “Almost dying made me realize something, I have done nothing in my life, I just have a college degree and I follow you two around, what kind of life is that? I am not a dog and I don’t think a dog would even like that, even a dog goes out on walks and has dog friends and has toys to play with, and what do I have? Nothing. And you might say, I have a comfortable life and I do, but what is the point of having it when I am a prisoner? I want to do stuff, I want to work, go out with coworkers for lunch, go out on dates, watch movies with friends, meet strangers, I even want to get heartbroken, because that’s what life is, living it to its full potential.”

  His words may have been caused by his frustration, that he felt in the past few days because of the two, and he may be overreacting, after all, he had been in this body for under a month, but he felt that he was Kin, when he received his memories, how his childhood was and why he felt so in debt for the Yuen’s family, they took him in and gave him a better life, but that didn’t mean, he owned them his life and needed to repay them with his existence; he felt bad because Kin was never able to live his life and ended up dying, and becoming a slave to the skies. He said those words for him, he needed to know that he didn’t own anything to anyone, yes, he should be thankful and be a good son and brother, but not to that extent.

  After he said those words, Kin got his dishes and put them in the sink, while the two siblings stayed quiet the whole time, even when he informed them that he wanted to sleep alone that night, they didn’t say anything and kept staring at the table, so he just left after telling them goodnight. 

  They stayed there for almost an hour, they blankly stared at the table and wondered why this happened, why was Kin unsatisfied with the way he was living? They had a perfect life. 

  "I don't want to lose him again, Lu." Layla told her brother with teary eyes; Lucas thought she was talking about the time Kin almost died, so he hugged his little sister and told her not to worry, he didn't know she already experienced his death and was afraid of living another life without him, what he knew was that he can't let Kin leave them. 

  "Don't worry, La, he is ours and he always will be." Lucas said and caressed his sister's hair, with her head on his shoulder, Lucas was plotting and planning on knowing who was the one who convinced his brother to take on a job and leave them.

  (He wasn't getting shipped off to another country or anything but I guess that's what I made their characters think, ain't that just fun?)
