The Day After

Layla walked in her brother’s room, to find him n***d on the bed, with a man beside him, they were cuddling and seemed to be comfortable in each other’s arms, she didn’t want to wake them up and disturb their enjoyment, especially after how depressed her brother was yesterday. She left the room quietly and went downstairs to talk to Nicholas about what she found.

After Layla left the room, the man beside Lucas woke up, with a headache and a short memory loss, he didn’t remember what happened yesterday, he just remembered that he was with a guy and he went home with him because he was too drunk to drive himself to his house, and they got an Uber.

But he was pretty sure, they did nothing, even though he was half n***d, he knew the difference between the feeling of having slept someone and having not, so he closed his eyes, bearing the headache with difficulty and continued being in Lucas’s arms, until the latter woke up.

“Ugh, my head.” Lucas said as soon as he opened his eyes; he tried moving and found someone beside him, which made him remember the night before and what he did.

“We should get something to drink or a painkiller, that helps.” The man, who he still didn’t know the name of, said and let go of him, and got up from the bed.

“I will tell my sister to make us something, you can get dressed or shower if you want.” Lucas said, while getting up and holding his head, trying to ease the pain.

“Thanks.” The man replied with a smile, his dimples showing, which made Lucas’s heart skip a bit but let’s ignore that. He opened the door and went downstairs, leaving the man alone in his room, to take a shower and freshen up.

“La, are you here?” Lucas asked, as soon as he set his foot downstairs, only to find his parents in front of him, while he was shirtless with messy hair and kiss marks.

“I am here.” Layla said, from the kitchen and quickly went to Lucas, she dragged him upstairs before their parents could say anything. “Hide that man or mom and dad will kill you, I will try to get them out as soon as possible, now go and you better come up with a lie to justify those bite marks.”

“You can do it when you try.” Ashley said with a smile, looking at Sai, who was reading a file and taking notes. She felt like a proud mother seeing her child finally doing his homework; but unlike the mother, the son wasn’t happy, he didn’t want to do any work! He didn’t quit school to go work, he quit to be able to live comfortably under his brother’s wing and live his life the way he wants to, with cute girls and boys around him in his limo, that’s his ideal lie style, not be tormented by a lady in her mid twenties to do his job properly, that’s not what he signed up for when becoming a CEO!

“I don’t like trying though, it’s exhausting.” Sai complained, as Ashley rolled her eyes at him, for the fifth time this day, this boy was really annoying, more than any of her old childish coworkers, who pushed their work on to her, claiming that she needs to learn more by doing their job for them, they just liked getting their paychecks but didn’t want to actually do what they are supposed to to get them, just like Sai.

“Oh so you like things being handed to you?” Ashley said with a mocking smile. Sai looked at her and simply nodded, not being ashamed of it, that’s the best way to live in his eyes.

“Exactly that.” Sai said and put down the files and went to grab his phone, for it fo turn off in his hands and he didn’t have a charger, it was 2 percent at 6:30pm and it’s 11pm, so it held on pretty well, he wished it held on for longer, he could have called his brother and told him he worked for FOUR AND A HALF HOURS, which is a record for him, and that will make his brother happy and it will be easier to tell him to come break his office’s door for him, but he can’t do that now.

“You sure that’s the kind of your life you want? No goals, no real life, just fake happiness from fake friends that will last you for a few months, maybe years if you are lucky, then you will die alone realizing that you didn’t do anything in your life, you wasted it on things you thought will make it worth it, but they didn’t, while Akaru will move on with his life, he will become more successful and have a family, while you become the drunk uncle who everyone avoids. Pretty sad life if you ask me.” Ashley said, while Sai boringly stared at her, seemingly not affected by her words.

“I am twenty three, let me live.” He said as he went to sleep on the couch, he was tired and wanted to take a nap or sleep till morning; when someone comes and opens the door for them, he is going to sprint and never come back, not until Ashley leaves.

“What if we make a deal?” Ashley said, before Sai was able to lose consciousness and dream about partying, she always has to ruin his fun, doesn’t she?

“What kind of deal?” He asked anyway, wanting to hear what she was going to say, to see if it will benefit him in any way possible.

“Since you don’t seem to like trying, what If you promise to work on this project and make it succeed, on your own, without anyone’s help? And I will leave and I will let you have your life back.” Ashley said, making it seem like a fair trade and that Sai will come out the winner of it, just like the key deal.

“You are bluffing.” Sai laughed and didn’t believe her words, of course she wasn’t going to leave just like that, she is there to torment him and make him regret letting his brother decide who his secretary will be.

“I am not, I am serious, I am even ready to write the contract down.”

“Just this one project?” Sai asked, still not believing her.

“Yes.” Ashley confirmed but Sai still didn’t believe her.

“If you want to quit, just tell me and I will be more than happy to fire you.” Sai said, laughing, clearly not taking her words seriously. To prove to him, that she was serious, she got a white paper and started writing down the contract.

When she finished writing it down, she handed to Sai, who was closing his eyes and didn’t see it, until she told him to get up and read it. He read it and still couldn’t believe it, he reread it ten times and didn’t see anything suspicious in the papers so he hesitantly took a pen and signed the paper.

He was going to do anything to get rid of Ashley, if it meant working for a whole month seriously to take back his life, where he can flirt with his secretary, laze around and not be stuck in a room with an unattractive woman, and have all the s*x he wants in his office then be it.

“Great!” Ashley said with a bright smile, then went to pack her things, they were done for the day and she was ready to be back home, on her bed and with her bunny.

She was able to achieve more than she thought today, it was a very successful first day of work, she needs to celebrate with a pizza, chips, soda and a cupcake, that will make this day perfect.

She walked up to the door and opened it, much to Sai’s surprise, who couldn’t say anything and just watched her leave, before coming back again and delivering the final blow. “By the way, the project will take at least three years to finish and realize so looking forward to spending three years with you, my dear boss.”

“Wait! You liar! What three years are you talking about!? Isn’t it a month?!?” Sai run out of the office, to the elevator, where Ashley was standing and looking at her phone.

She looked up and smiled, saying: “Never trust someone you just met, that’s a lesson for you.” She waved at him as the elevator door closed and he fell to his knees, regretting every decision he made today.

Ashley walked in the house, ready to find the house empty but instead finding Akaru sitting on the couch, with Koo in his lap, while both of them were watching TV. As soon as Akaru saw Ashley, he smiled and welcomed her home, which was something nobody has done in a very long time; she smiled at him and said: “I am home.”

She went and sat next to him, after throwing her things on the side of the couch, she leaned her head back and took a deep breath, enjoying the moment, until her stomach made a noise, demanding her to get up and feed it.

Even though her relax time was cut short, because of her hunger, she didn’t let it ruin the rest day, she simply took her phone from her bag and dialed the number, of a pizza shop Alvin told her about, it was owned by one of his friends and they made a very tasty pizza, that she enjoyed a lot and got her in a good mood, the day after she came here.

“I am going to order a pizza, want some?” She asked, the other line hasn’t picked up yet. She didn’t want to have to share her special pizza with him so if he wanted one, she will just order a separate one for him, because she is sure, he isn’t going to like what she is going to tell the employee what to put on it. Blame it on the pregnancy.

“Sure.” Akaru said, feeling a bit hungry since he haven’t ate since Alvin left, they ate some cookies together and that was about it.

“What do you want?”

“I don’t mind anything.” Akaru said and Ashley nodded and placed the order for both of them, then got up to her room to change.

After changing her clothes and putting her hair up in a bun, she went to the kitchen and looked for ingredients to bake a few cupcakes. Akaru approached her as she was about to start, with Koo in his hands.

“What are you going to do now?” He asked, as he leaned on the counter; after putting Koo down.

“Make some cupcakes to celebrate.” Ashley said with a big smile.

“Celebrate what?” Akaru was a bit confused since he thought that after Ashley came back this late, Sai must have tortured her and made life hell for her, in those short six hours she spent with him.

“Getting a job and making Sai work.” She replied with a proud expression.

“You made him work?!?” Akaru almost chocked on him saliva, as he started coughing. Nobody has ever made his brother work, other than himself, Sai would always just laze around and never do anything, so unless he got locked up in a cage and was forced to work, he would never do it.

“Here, some water.” Ashley handed him a glass of water and went back to mixing.

“For how long?” Akaru asked, ready to be impressed by Ashley again and he sure was.

“Four hours and a half, almost five.” Ashley said with a smirk, still feeling like a smartass after all that happened this evening.

“Oh my god, that’s a record, the longest I was able to make him work was an hour, how did you do it?” Akaru never been more happy to hire someone through connections, it always leads to complications and problems because of how messed his brother can be, but looks like that isn’t the case with Ashely, probably because she was from Alvin.

“Well, it’s complicated.”

“I am all ears.”

Mifu didn’t believe her ears, maybe it was the cigarette she smoked before entering the house, because there is no way Maya was telling her to sleep with Lennon.

She got up to leave again, being sure as hell that Maya lost her mind or was a playing a bad joke or trying to step her up, to s***h her with that knife. They let her get to the door but just as she opened the door, a knife came flying to her, right beside her face, giving her a slight cut on her cheek.

“You still need practice.” Lennon commented. Mifu collapsed on the ground and clutched her heart tightly, wondering if she is going to be able to get out of here alive.

“Yeah, it’s heavier than I anticipated.” Maya said, as they both walked to her slowly while talking about how to better Maya’s skill in throwing knives.

Maya crouched down to pick up her knife, while Lennon got the first aid kit and carried Mifu to the couch, he disinfected the cut and put a bandage over it and apologized to Mifu about it, telling her that it wasn’t their intention to hurt her at all.

“Then what did you want to?! To kill me, you both are crazy!” Mifu shouted, getting away from them, to the farthest corner in the couch, scared for her life from those two, who seemed to have lost reason and are now out to make her regret ever approaching them.

“Maybe, but what’s bad about that?” Maya in a crazy like manner but then realized how bad that sounded, after what she have done to Mifu, so she took off the fake facade and said: “I am joking and I truly didn’t mean to hurt your face, I am very sorry.”

“What about my heart that was about to stop? Apologize for that!” Mifu shouted again but this time, in anger instead of fear, since she felt like she had control now, after both Maya and Lennon apologized, she felt slightly safe again but that doesn’t mean she will let her guard, she is just going to test the water and see if she get away.

“I sincerely apologize for hurting you and I am willing to give you anything if you are willing to forgive me.” Maya said sincerely, like a true knight, meaning every word she said. She didn’t want to be on bad terms with Mifu, they kind of needed her to survive and keep their lifestyle.

“Then give me an explanation, for everything and I don’t want any lies.” Mifu said, as Lennon and Maya looked at each. Maya thinking about it and considering telling Mifu the truth, well most of if.

“No matter how the story might sound?” Maya asked, as Lennon looked at her shocked, was she going to tell her about their transmigration?

“Yes, I just want to understand what’s going on.” Mifu said and Maya nodded, then turned around to wink at Lennon, before he could object or drag her away to discuss the matter.

Lennon trusted Maya enough to let her speak, but he wasn’t going to leave, because he doesn’t trust her enough that she won’t slip anything accidentally, Maya can be a bit dumb sometimes, be it intentionally, for their benefit, or unintentionally when her brain just stops working.

‘You are not going to tell her, are you?’ Nova asked in her head, while she just smiled and ignored, going to sit beside Mifu.

Maya took a deep breath and explained to Mifu, a tiny bit of the truth. Like how they found out that some people will come after them, to kill them and their son, and kill everyone associated with them. They had to leave because of that and not get close to anyone, but after Maya noticed Mifu stalking them, she got worried and decided to make a plan, to make it seem like Mifu is an enemy to them so no one kills her.

‘She should have been the one acting, she is perfect.’ Lennon thought to himself, seeing as Maya was tearing up and having a hard time composing herself, as she was talking to Mifu about how worried she was about Noah’s future and how his life will because of what’s happening with them.

It was hard for Mifu, not to believe her when she was crying so realistically, she seemed genuine in every word she said and Mifu knew how much Maya loved her son, so she couldn’t imagine her lying about anything she have said so far, because she wasn’t, it was sort of the truth after all.
