Even though Layla and Nicholas were friends, they weren’t extremely close to each other and neither of them liked being touchy with other people, so the fact that they were holding hands and flirting was an achievement to both of them and they will work to make the plan work, they were going to commit and do whatever it took to……to do what again? To convince her brother that they were indeed dating ( I have no guess on how that helped, but how would I know, I am just the author of this book).
“We should kiss!” Layla suddenly said, when she noticed her brother staring at them. He had been suspicious of them ever since Layla told him she was dating someone, he didn’t believe her at first because she never showed interest in other human beings and it was weird that she suddenly did, so they should use this opportunity to make it more believable, that they are dating.
“We should not, I do not want to put my mouth on yours, that’s gross,” Nicholas said and moved away from Layla, showing his clear disinterest in kissing her.
“I am your bestie bro! Don’t say that!” Layla said with a pout.
“Screw being besties, I am not giving you my first kiss.” Nicholas realized that he just admitted he never kissed anyone and thought Layla would laugh at him for that, but she didn’t, she just took a couple of seconds and asked if he could give her, his second kiss.
“Better than the first, right?” Layla didn’t get why it was important for Nicholas to keep his first kiss, she didn’t mind giving him her first, but people are different and she respected his decision, still, that didn’t she would give up on kissing him.
“I guess, depending on the situation.” Nicholas replied, based on what his brain said, the first kiss was the most important one, anything that came, after all, wasn’t important.
“Okay.” Layla said with a mischievous smile, as she came up with a plan to kiss Nicholas by the end of the week.
“Why are you smiling like that? You are scary.” Nicholas knew that smile from his mom and it wasn’t a very good one.
“Nothing darling.” Layla replied with a chuckle, that scared Nicholas more and made him demand an answer from her.
“You sound like my mom when she set me up with my second cousin, I don’t like this, tell me what you are planning or I am out.” Nicholas said and got up, fully ready to leave Layla on her own if she doesn’t tell what she was thinking about.
Nicholas suddenly standing up got some attention, especially from Lucas and Leonard, who stared at them deeply, and when Lucas looked as if he was about to come, Layla said okay and told him to sit down.
“I am planning on making you kiss your crush and have your first kiss with her so you could me give me your second and third and fourth so we could convince everyone that we are indeed dating.” It was an easy plan, except that she had to convince a girl to kiss Nicholas, but how hard could that be?
“Are you crazy? I am not doing that.” Nicholas blushed at how utterly nonsensical that sounded, being sure that it would never work in the real-life, only in imagination and Layla’s fantasy, that everything she planned would become a reality.
“We will see.” Layla said and tried some of her fries with a cheeky smile, while Nicholas sat there, wondering why he was friends with this girl, why was he even helping her? Oh right, he didn’t have any other friends, that explained it.
“I am starting to dislike you.” Nicholas said before he started eating his fries as well, to try and numb the pain with greasy food, that was defiantly not healthy, or the diet he was planning on starting.
“I am starting to like you more with each second, so can I kiss you on the cheek?” Layla asked with puppy eyes and because of how used Nicholas got to every outrageous thing she said, this one didn’t seem that bad and it would at least show Lucas that they had a level of intimacy between them.
“Go for it, I don’t mind.” Nicholas said in an uncaring tone, not ready to get in a discussion with her for a kiss on the cheek or the awkward stare he would get from Lucas after Layla would simply sit down back in her seat after her gesture showed that she was waiting for a kiss from Nicholas or vice versa, but he regretted it later because as soon as she put her lips on his cheek, he spotted his mother from a distance.
Nicholas’s mother was somehow a kind mother while also being extremes mean at times; she had a particular way with her raising her son, she wanted him to be able to do whatever he wanted and for him to do that, he needed to not follow her footsteps, she married someone and lost her position and opportunities in her family, and she ended blaming all of that on her husband, who was the one who tried his hardest to convince her that they weren’t meant to be, that they could try in the next life, but she was stubborn and chased him.
He knew she was going to regret it and she did, and she doesn’t want the same to happen to her son, so she taught him the ways of her family from a young age, to be a hardworking man, who is good at everything, who respected everyone and worked hard to get what he wanted, but not forgetting to also love him as a son doing so.
And as a loving mother, seeing her son interact with a girl, which could lead him to being accepted in her family with open arms, she couldn’t help but tear up and fall to her knees.
