I Don’t Want To Be A Wife!

Layla was having a rought day, she had a long day in school and a long shift, she had homework to do, a project due next week; she was sitting in the bus, going home, because her car broke down and she needed to get a new one, she was slowly falling asleep in her seat, but she tried so hard to stay awake.

When she was just about to sleep deeply, someone woke her up and told her they were at the last stop; which made Layla realize that she missed her stop; so she asked the driver if he was going to go back, he said no because it was late at night and this was his last trip.

"Okay, thanks." Layla got down from the bus and looked around to see if she can find someone where she could go, to call Lucas or Kin to pick her up; she didn't feel comfortable pulling her phone out in public, she didn't want to get robbed.

Luckily, there was a restaurant nearby and she went there, it was rather empty and after she got down, she noticed that the employee wasn't pleased she was there and as a waitress herself, she understood that the closing time was around the corner, she needed to call them immediately and leave; before it got any more darker than it was.

Having a husband was difficult on its own, along with a son, it was tough to find time for herself but with another man in the house and a child, it was going to become even harder, luckily Nick and Lennon seemed to get along well, judging by the way they were hugging each other on the floor.

She didn’t want to leave them like that so she put a blanket on them and a pillow under their heads and went to her room, where Natasha and Noah were sleeping, she didn’t want to disturb them so she went to Noah’s room and decided to sleep there, but she couldn’t.

The sleeping angel wasn’t under the bed today, maybe because Noah wasn’t there and the fact that she made that up to make Noah go to sleep, but let’s forget the details and focus on Maya walking downstairs sneakily, trying not to wake anyone up.

Getting to her car took her very long heavy breathing sessions but she did it, she got the stuff she purchased and took them to her room, she laid them on the bed and was looking at them, trying to decide what was she going to do, make an origami, to make herself sleepy, like she always did back in her world, or hey the puzzle and stay up until the morning, which was the thing she did with her friends back in high school when she would stay in one of her friend’s house, they would often stay until 5am solving the puzzle.

In the end she decided to make an origami, because she was hoping she could sleep and stop thinking about the possibility of someone suddenly bursting through the door and killing her, she doesn’t want to continue scaring herself and to stop that, she should get busy and fall asleep.

It happened quicker than she would have expected, by the time she finished making a bird origami, she started getting sleepy but she also wanted to make a butterfly origami, to give it to Natasha; the little girl told her that was her favorite animal and it would probably make her happy to have an origami of it, she made the bird one for Noah; birds are his favorite, he wanted to become a bird when he grows up.

By the time she ended the butterfly, her eyes were half open but she still didn’t want to sleep yet, her mind telling her that someone was hiding behind the curtains and someone would jump on her the moment she closed her eyes, that was scary enough for her to continue making birds and butterflies origami, until she fell asleep before she could stop herself.

Maya usually doesn’t fight sleep off, she loved sleeping, as much as the next person but when it came to her sleeping on her own, she had a hard time doing so, especially after living with Lennon for almost a year, she got used to someone being next to her, that she forgot how it was to sleep alone and had to worry about someone getting in her apartment and killing her, hopefully she will start being able to sleep on her own when she is back to her world and not have to create origamis to be able to fall asleep, like she used to.

Initially, Maya bought the origami papers and the puzzle to have a fun night with the others, she didn’t expect them to have their own plans, luckily she forgot the things in her car when she saw the lights and got distracted by the noise, otherwise it would have been an awkward night.

Fortunately, it was an amazing night, Maya never thought she would see Lennon in a dress, he looked good in it actually, much better that she imagined, it was a shame he wasn’t willing to commit all the way and wear heels, like Nick did.

The demon really committed to the costume he was given and she respected him for it, he did all of that to see his daughter’s smile and smile did she, Natasha was so happy to see her father in pretty dresses, like the dolls she had back in her mom’s house, she didn’t really like his dark clothes and the robes he always wore, it was gloomy and her mom always told her dark clothes bring bad luck and bright ones bring good luck, so she was sure to bring the brightest color to her daddy.

A little backstory on Natasha, she was raised by her mother, to be a good girl and a bright one, to always help around the house and take care of herself when her mom wasn’t home, she had to hide her powers from everyone and stay away from others, that was her life, until her mom couldn’t keep up anymore.

Natasha was about to get in school and her mom couldn’t afford to unroll he anywhere and knew Natasha would be taken away from her because of it, or because of the living circumstances she had, she was broke and wanted her daughter to have a better life.

Her daughter wasn’t ‘normal’ either, she was starting to be like her father, so he was a better option than her, he could raise her better than her, so she called up her daughter’s daughter and gave her to him, explaining to Natasha, that she would stay with her dad until her mom comes to get her, when that would be, she didn’t know.

The little girl believed her mother, but her father didn’t and asked Natasha’s mother to give him her phone number so that Natasha could speak to her from time to time, she gave him her number and they left, to live a completely different life from what Natasha had, a fun one at that.

Natasha didn’t have to be a good girl, she didn’t have to control her powers, she didn’t have care about others seeing her eyes changing colors, she could be free and her dad gave her that freedom, because he was like her, her friends were also like her, she didn’t have to hide anything around them.

That’s what she told her mother happily on one night and after that night, her mother stopped responding to her messages and disappeared from her life. It made ber sad but her dad promised to find her mom one day, when she is strong enough, they would look for her together and Natasha is looking forward to that day.

A few weeks later, Maya and Lennon were starting to become notably stronger than before and grew closer to Nick, and the same was happening to their kids, Noah and Natasha became friends rather quickly, always spending time with each other and having any excuse to keep holding hands; they played together, they trained together and of course slept together, which was a bit disappointing to Nick, because he liked cuddling Natasha and sleeping next her.

He was always worried about Natasha growing up and not wanting to sleep with him anymore, he was prepared for that but he did not expect it to happen quickly and for her, to replace him with a boy her age; he allowed them to be friends but he didn’t allow Noah to snatch his daughter away, if not for Natasha still acting spoiled and running up to him each morning and smiling brightly at him, he would have snapped and did something.

While Nick was slowly accepting his daughter having a friend and getting less dependent on him, Maya wasn’t, she didn’t like how Noah was dressing up on his own, brushing his teeth on his own, eating his breakfast alone and even making his bed, he was becoming closer to Natasha and stopped spending time with her, she never thought she would feel lonely when Noah starts growing up, it never crossed her mind.

One night, she was drinking on her own in the living room and looking at Noah’s older pictures, wondering how he got so big so quickly, he was just a small child when she first saw him but now he reached her knee and was able to get all the way upstairs without her help or getting tired, how did that happen? And why does she care?

She thought she was going to start focusing on herself more and do things she liked, she was a bit worried about Noah and what would happen to their relationship but it seemed that Noah wasn’t going to be effected, instead she was.

“What are you doing?” Lennon asked as he turned on the lights in the living room, to reveal Maya in her pajamas and wet cheeks, her eyes red and threatening to spill tears at any second. “Is it about Noah growing up?” Lennon noticed that Maya was getting upset lately, he asked her about it before and she told him she was just sad Noah was growing up quickly, he didn’t think much of it at the time but it seemed to be a bigger issue than he previously thought.

Maya nodded and sniffed, he took a seat beside her and put his arms around her, caressing her and comforting her, he explained to her that Noah was still going to her child, he would continue to grow up but that won’t mean she wasn’t going to be his mother anymore, Noah was, is and will always be their child, even though they are technically not his parents, they loved him as their own and he loved them, and nothing will change that; hun growing up is just another way for them to see how good of a child he was going to be.

“Thank you.” Maya wiped her tears and smiled, as she starting to think about Noah growing up in a positive way.

“No problem, now go back to sleep, we have to wake up early tomorrow.” Lennon said, as he got up and took the bottle from the table, to the kitchen, along with the cup.

“Hey.” Maya suddenly said when she was at the first step in the stairs and looked back at Lennon, who was in the kitchen, getting a glass of water, the reason he got up from the room in the first place.

“Yeah?” He looked at her and waited to see what she wanted to say, as he took a sip from the cold water, he just poured for himself.

“Wanna go out with me? I mean wanna date?”

“What do you mean?” Lennon asked, a bit confused and shocked, he didn’t comprehend what Maya said because in his mind, Maya would never accept him and be willing to date him, that never crossed his mind so what she said, was just translated to his head for her wanting to go out with him somewhere and not in a dating kind of way.

“I mean dating, being in a relationship.” Maya said, but when Lennon seemed to not get it and she got embarrassed, so she just said: “You know what, forget it, forget I said that, goodnight.” She continued her way upstairs, with flushed cheeks, she wanted to erase what she just said but she couldn’t.

It wasn’t that she regretted saying it, she didn’t, it was what she wanted to say for weeks and was finally able to, ever since Nova told her she can do what she wanted if it doesn’t concern Noah, she thought about confessing to Lennon but not in this way, it just came out of her mouth after what Lennon did, she always liked how nice and understanding he was and tonight, he proved it to be true to the maximum level and her heart decided to take control and tell him her deepest thought.

Now look what happened, stupid heart of hers, now she was going to be awkward around Lennon for at least a month, she didn’t believe it when they started to get along and be touchy and lovey dovey and now they have to go back to being strangers who happen to be married with a kid.

“Wait!” Lennon finally held her hand and stopped her from taking another step, she looked at him with anticipation and he just froze under her look, it took him a couple of seconds to release his breath and tell her: “I am sorry, I didn’t mean it in that way, I never expected you to take the first step and ask me out, I liked you for so long that I forgot that there might be a chance for us, and for you question, yes, I would love to date you.”

Maya smiled brightly and threw herself on him, hugging him tightly and promising to be the best girlfriend ever, Lennon promised the same and kissed her on the cheek, thanking her for asking him out, knowing that he wouldn’t have done it himself, ever, because of how self conscious he is.

They walked to their room, hand in hand and since it was Maya’s turn to sleep with the kids that night, they ( Maya, Lennon and Nick) took turns on who to sleep with the kids each night, the bed was so big, it fit three people; it was a misfortune that it was her turn but she told him goodnight with a last hug and went in the room.

Lennon walked to Noah’s room, where Lennon was sleeping on Noah’s bed, while his bed was on the floor, they also switched in that; the floor wasn’t so bad but Lennon wished that they built a guest room, they just never expected to have someone over because of the apocalypse approaching. He was in a daze, as he sat on the bed so Nick tuned to look at him and ask him what was wrong.

“Maya asked me out, we are dating.”

“But aren’t you two married?”

“Yeah, it’s a long story and a boring one at that, anyway, goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

“Mifu!”

“Don’t scream in my ear, I can hear you, what is it?”

“I asked Lennon like you told me to!”

“What? You got the courage to do it? I never thought you had it in you, but good for you, did he say yes?”

“He did! He hesitated at first because he didn’t believe me but now we are officially dating.”

“Congratulations.”

“Why do you sound…upset?”

“Because Yuhi is at my room and doesn’t want to leave, even though I told him my friend is coming over and I don’t want him here, I am really tempted to call the cops on him.”

“Do it.”

“What?”

“Or throw something on him.”

“Good idea, I have some eggs that are probably rotten, I will throw those on him.”

“Good luck.”

“Thanks, you too.”
