Stay As Brothers

Lucas was staring at the wall in his room, he noticed the emptiness of their home, their house with their parents, that had no warmth whatsoever, what made it livable was Kin, but now he wasn’t here, he wrote them a note saying he went on vacation to another country, to relax his mind and think about things.

And that got Lucas a bit excited, thinking that Kin was finally able to take him seriously and think about his feelings, he hoped that’s the case and if it was not, he would be very depressed.

“La, what do you think Kin think of me?”

“Should I tell you honestly or do you want it to be sugar coated?”

“Let it be vinegar coated, just hit me with it, don’t be shy, I won’t do anything.”

“He sees you as a brother and that haven’t changed once, maybe lately he has been conscious about you, but that’s about it, not the like and love you are waiting from him.”

“And why do you think is that?”

“Because we were raised together? I never saw him in that way and I honestly don’t know why you went to that route, instead of any other.

Lennon understood why Maya didn’t want Noah to train, she wanted him to keep his innocence and purity, but that won’t work out in the future, if they were going to live in an apocalypse world then it’s better if he loses his innocence as soon as possible; it’s kind of harsh but their life won’t be easy when it starts.

Maya knew that but she still didn’t want to make Noah suffer through anything and only wanted to protect him from everything, not letting him face anything at all.

“I will protect him, you will protect him too, right?” Maya held Lennon’s hand and stared at him in the eyes, sure that he was going to say yes, because it’s Lennon after all, she just needed confirmation and she got it.

“Of course, he is my son, technically, but what can we do? I am an actor, you are a housewife, even if we tried to protect him, will we be able to do so?” Lennon knew even if they trained as hard as they can, they won’t be able achieve much, they can still try and see where it gets them.

“We will still try and we have a year to prepare, we will figure out something.” Maya said with a hopeful smile, making Lennon feel bad for what was he going to say next, so he crouched down in front of her, holding her hands tighter and saying: “Let’s say we did figure out something, what does guarantee we will always stay together until this apocalypse thing is over? What if I die?”

The possibly of one of them dying was high, very high, it could reach the sky, he is scared of that, because he knows if they die before completing the quest, asked by Nova, they won’t be able to go back to their world, Maya doesn’t know this but he does.

One night, when he was drinking alone and enjoying the cold wind, sitting in the balcony, looking at the view, wondering what would happen if he jumped, not to kill himself or anything but just to see what would happen to his body or his soul, before he could try, Nova appeared in front of him and warned him of doing such a thing, because if he did do it, he will not be back to his world and will be stuck here as a soul until the world ends itself, no matter how thousands or millions of years it took.

It was horrifying thinking about it, it almost made him cry when he heard it from Nova, being alone for thousands of years, for something that wasn’t his fault, he didn’t ask to be here, he didn’t ask to be away from his family, his friends but he can’t refute it, he doesn’t have the power to, he can only try his hardest to go back, along with Maya, to finally ask her on a date properly.

Back to reality, Maya saw Lennon staring into the distance and thought that he was seriously thinking about death; her eyes teared up and she said with a broken voice: “Please don’t say that.”

She didn’t want Lennon to die, she only had him with her, he was the reason for her not going insane because of the memories, he was her support and he related to her, she felt alive next to him, if he was gone, she wouldn’t know what to do; Maya looked down, as tears started falling from her eyes, thinking about Lennon not being around anymore.

“No, Maya, look at me, I might die and you might die as well and he will be all alone so we have to teach him how to survive on his own, he can’t be too dependent on us.” Lennon thought that Maya was crying because she didn’t want to be all alone with Noah and take care of him all by herself in an apocalypse, so he tried to explain more, his decision to train Noah at such a young age.

“But he is four.” Maya forgot for a second about death, not wanting to think about it and focused on Noah, the angel sleeping in their room, the reason they are here and will be here till he is all grown up to a perfect, healthy man.

“I know, but he is the so called ML, the protagonist and we will only get him to take baby steps so that if we leave, he will be able to be by himself.” Lennon thought that since Noah was the protagonist, he will be able to at least take some classes of self defense, learn how to run away and hide, how to feed himself and not rely too much on others.

“I….I guess.” Maya sniffled and nodded.

Lennon wiped the slightly dried tears and smiled at her, reassuring her that they will be okay, saying; “We will be alright, his training is just an extra thing.”

“Hmm.”

After awhile, when Maya stopped crying, Lennon asked the last question that was bugging him: “How long will the apocalypse last?”

“For Noah, it was ten years but I don’t know about now.” Maya responded and soon after, she was being carried by Lennon, who was taking her to their bedroom, who told her that he was taking her to rest and that she can’t refuse because she needed it.

She only hugged his neck and rested her head on his shoulder, not doing anything to resist or try to get away, she wanted him to be close to her so she didn’t mind him carrying her one bit, she actually hated it when he put her down next to Noah, but she couldn’t hold his hand and tell him to stay next to her, she didn’t feel like she had the right to, so she let him go.

She watched him walk away and thought: ‘I wish you never leave me but who am I to have that kind of wish?’

The next day, the sun was peaking through the curtains, waking up the sleeping Noah, who slowly opened his eyes and yawned, rubbing his eyes cutely with a pout, annoyed with the sun that woke him up, but not even a minute later, he was thankful that he woke up, because he was able to see his mom and dad sleeping close to each other, with his mama’s head on his papa’s chest, while his papa had his arm around his mama, it made him happy seeing them close; they were never like this before.

When he used to sneak in their room, late at night before, he wouldn’t find either of them or one of them will be missing, or if he was lucky, he would find each of them on a side, completely away from each other, as if both hated each other and didn’t like being around each other; which was the case at the time, the original Maya only married the original Lennon for his wealth and his luxury life, she didn’t love him, he knew that very well and didn’t mind that, because he didn’t want love either.

But the present Lennon want it and he wants to experience it with Maya, and even though he knows Maya is scared of love, he will try to convince her that it’s not so bad and that he will make her happy and glad that she chose love, but he still got a long way to go, or so he thought.

Noah watched his parents sleeping, giggling to himself and hugging Maya from behind tightly, waking her up.

“Good morning, Noey.” Maya said, with a sleepy smile, slowly getting up, while blinking slowly and yawning.

“Good morning mama!” Noah said with a huge smile, hugging her tightly and kissing her cheek; she kissed his as well and hugged him, asking him if he had a goodnight sleep, while he answered, she look at her side, to find out what was the heavy thing beside her.

She realized that it was Lennon. ‘Oh yeah, I put him here.’ Maya thought as she remembered that at approximately 5am, she got up to go to the bathroom, because she had too many liquids before she slept, when she came back, she noticed Lennon sleeping while sitting, his head on the desk in a visibly uncomfortable position.

Feeling back for him, she approached him and tried to wake him up, so that she can help go to the end, since she can’t possibly take him to the bed by herself, she ain’t that strong unfortunately, he woke up dazedly and look at her, as she told her to get up, he did as told, not bothering to question anything, because of how sleepy he was.

Maya put his arm around her neck and helped him go to the bedroom, with a lot of difficulties, even though he was half awake and could walk slightly by himself, it was a pain in the a*s to move him, so when she put him on the bed, she immediately laid down as well and went back to sleep, not seeing where her arms went or where his did; who would notice something like anyway.

“Let’s not disturb your papa, come.” Maya got up from the bed and carried Noah in her arms, walking away from the bed, to the bathroom, where they both washed their face, Maya brushed Noah’s hair and hers, then Noah went to the bathroom, while she wore a yellow dress with blue flowers, a light white jacket and white sandals and then prepared Noah’s clothes.

They went out of the room, leaving the room’s keys in there, with Maya only taking her wallet, walking hand in hand, excited to go eat breakfast, this time they were early so they will have all the food they want, without waiting in line or someone snatching their food away, what a blessing.

The sleeping man, who was laying in the bed; like a dead man, woke up, approximately, 20 minutes after they left, because someone rang the bell and didn’t stop, so he had to get up and go see who it was.

It turned out to be no one, he didn’t find anyone, he even looked in the hallways to see if someone was near him, but to no vail and to make matters worst, the door got shut and he didn’t have the keys, and to make the worst even worse, he only had shorts on and no shirt, plus he didn’t know where Maya and Noah were, so he can’t even go and see if they have the keys.

He had two option, search for Maya and Noah or go to the reception and ask for an extra key, the problem with the second option was that he doesn’t have his id on him and they will surely ask for it, to prove his identity, but he was an actor so that won’t be a problem, right?

Well, the security guard didn’t even let him in the main lobby, saying that his attire wasn’t appropriate and when he tried to explain the situation, the guard told him that he can’t help him since he has no id and his boss will kill him if he just let him in to talk to the receptionist, with no shirt or id, so Lennon understandably left and looked for Maya and Noah.

He roamed around the hotel, until he reached the restaurant and decided to get in, he slipped in from a back door and looked around for Maya, all while being stared at by dozens of people, who were enjoying their breakfast when suddenly a snack came in and disturbed their meal, some didn’t mind and liked it, while some glared at him for showing up dressed up like that, dressed up in almost nothing.

A few minutes after looking, he was able to find Maya and Noah sitting in the farthest corner, enjoying their food together, living in their small happy world, Maya feeding Noah with a fork, a crepes with chocolate and banana.

He walked up to them and sat next to Noah, taking the bite that was supposed to be his, surprising both his wife and son, one because of his sudden appearance and two because of his said appearance.

“Why are you dressed like this?” Maya could only utter this single question, as Lennon gulped down the orange juice, as if he was walking in the desert before walking in here.

“I got locked out of the room.” Lennon responded, as he put down the cup and apologized to Noah for drinking his juice.

“How?”

“Someone was at the door and when I came out to look, they weren’t there and I hen I went to look for them, the door shut.”

“I left both of the keys inside…..” Maya said, realizing that they are stuck out of their room, with no phones, she should have taken at least one of keys with her.

“We can go ask the receptionist for a new one. Do you have your ID?”

“I do.”

“Good, now can you please feed me another piece?” Lennon was hungry, he ran around the whole hotel for what seemed like hours to him, with no food or water; he could have died out there if not for the hope in heart that he will find peace, once he finds Maya, and he did, of course it’s exaggerated since what he found was food and water, but it could still count.

“Should I go get you a new one all to yourself?” Maya asked, they already had their breakfast, actually they were having their second breakfast before Lennon interrupted them, because after their first breakfast and a bit of walking around, they felt hungry again and came back, so she didn’t mind going to grab something for Lennon, while he and Noah sat around and ate.

“That would be great.” Lennon was thankful for Maya’s existence and he was even more thankful when she gave him her jacket, so he could hide his chest, because he have been really self conscious, especially with people starting at him, from across the room.

Maya was standing in the line and waiting for her turn, to get a crêpe, when a woman stood beside her and started talking to her.

“It didn’t work, I got nervous.”

“But you didn’t have to ran away.”

“Well sorry for being embarrassed about flirting with a hot shirtless man who happens to be a famous actor.”

“You know?” Maya turned to look at her, surprised about her discovery since she doesn’t think that she ever told her about Lennon’s full name or his occupation, she must have some really good resources if she found out on her own.

“I did some digging and I found out, you have a damn fine husband I must say, it’s a shame you are giving him away but I don’t mind.” Mifu expressed her happiness with Maya’s decision to let her try and have her husband, not knowing that Maya was starting to change her mind after what she found yesterday.

There was no time for love relationship so maybe she try being a double agent, meaning she will have to help Mifu while also sabotaging her plans at the same time, which will turn out to be quite difficult for her, as you will see in the next chapter.
