“You have been staring at me, for almost ten minutes, do you want my sandwich or something?” Layla asked, after she noticed that Nicholas had been staring at her, ever since they sat down; he never did something like that, so she assumed he wanted a piece of the food she was eating. “Yeah, a small bite.” Nicholas said with a smile, as if that was really why he was staring at her. “Okay, here you go.” Layla cut her sandwich in half and gave it to Nicholas, then said: “Next time, just tell me, I don’t like people staring at me.” “Why?” “I feel like they are judging my appearance and I already have self esteem issues, I don’t need any more.” Layla said half jokingly, even though she was self conscious about her face and her body; mainly because of the image that was portrayed on her since she was young, she was supposed to be pretty and thin, she was not, that disappointed her whole family and as she got older, she started to see how the world perceived her based on her appearance alone. “Why would someone judge you, it’s your face and your body, why should they hold the power to tell you if you are beautiful or not? It’s your opinion, if you think you are pretty then you are, nobody else should tell you what you think about yourself.” Nicholas said in full honesty, which made Layla just stare at him for a few minutes and then look down, to continue eating her food, after a tear fell down. Walking through the hallway, along with Flora, was expectedly less stressful than walking with Akaru, because less people were staring at them, actually hardly anyway glanced at them, which was quite relieving for Ashley, making her, remind herself to try her hardest, not to stick around Akaru so much, attention isn’t really her cup of tea and Akaru seemed to be getting a lot of it. “Here you are, welcome to your new office.” Flora said, with a smile, opening the glass door wide open, revealing the elegant white room to Ashley. “Thank you.” Ashley smiled back, walking in her now office, fascinated with how neat everything looked, it’s a lot better than her old office, actually, it can’t even be compared to her old office. “Other than the usual stuff of, answering calls, taking messages and handling correspondence, maintaining diaries and arranging appointments, typing, preparing and collating reports; you need to get Mr.Sai his morning coffee, from the coffee shop across the street; you also need to read every email he receives and reply to it, the best way possible after discussing it with him personally, that’s the way Mr.Akaru likes it to be, and lastly, remind him of everything and I mean everything and anything he needs to do or know about, I think that’s about it, do you have any questions regarding what I said?” Flora finished talking and Ashley finished taking notes, so she proceeded to ask her about the one thing, she got confused about. “What type of coffee should I get for him?” Ashley asked, since there isn’t just one of type of coffee, like the author thought for the longest time ever. “Tell any worker at the shop, I want Sai’s drink and they will give it to you.” Flora informed her, having answered this question for the tenth time this month, wonder how long this one will last before she runs away crying, because of Sai or Akaru. “Okay, thank you.” “No problem, you will find the table for the working hours on the desk, along with Sai’s number.” “Why would I need his number?” Ashley asked, looking at Flora weirdly, why would she ever need to call her boss? For what reason, would she need to talk or text that bratty i***t? “You will know soon. Anyways, it’s 3pm, so there is only three hours left till your shift is over, so you can organize your office and the papers over there for now, good luck.” Flora said, then walked away, leaving the office to go do her job. “Thank you.” Ashley shouted so that Flora could hear her. “Don’t mention it.” Flora replied, waving her hands at Ashley and continuing to walk away. After an hour and a half, Ashley was done with the work, she was assigned to do by Flora and she had no idea what is she supposed to do; she leaned back on her chair and stared at the ceiling, asking herself: “What do I do now?” Half an hour passed, with Ashley playing with her hair, when she remembered Koo, she didn’t give him his snacks before she left, he is going to be really angry about this; with the fear of getting ignored by Koo, in her heart, Ashley quickly called Alvin, hoping that he is home and that he will be able to save her precious night activity, cuddling with Koo. “What is it Ash? Did something happen?” Alvin asked her worriedly, as soon as he picked up, having assumed that something wrong must have happened to Ashley, that caused her to call him, which is something she never does, not the old Ashley or the memory loss Ashley. “No, everything is fine.” Ashley replied, calming Alvin down with her words and soft tone. “Oh ok, then did you call me because you missed me?” Alvin asked her teasingly, not expecting her to say yes or anything, but he said it with a huge smile, that Ashley could hear through the phone, making her believe he is asking her for real and making it hard for her to deny it and tell him the real reason for her call, because she didn’t want to disappoint him or lie to him. So to prevent any awkwardness, she ignored his question and pretended not to hear his question, and said: “I called you because I need a favor from you.” “What is it?” Alvin asked, changing back to his normal serious mode. “Can you please give Koo some snacks and drinks along with his favorite plushie? I didn’t think I will stay here for more than two hours so I didn’t give them to him.” “Of course, what plushie are you talking about again?” “The blue whale one.” “Okay, got it, need anything else?” “No, thank you.” Ashley replied and was about to hang up, to think about a proper way to thank Alvin for everything, because a simple thank you won’t do or even a gift, she has to show him how impactful his helping was to her, but Alvin wasn’t one to let that happen, he wanted their conversation to last longer. “How do you find the job so far?” Alvin asked, putting the blue plushie near Koo, then going back to his room, where he is watching a sappy movie. “It’s wonderful and my office is really nice.” Ashley expressed her happiness with the tone of her voice, making Alvin smile as well, being overjoyed that Ashley has a cheerful tone, rather than the gloomy one she’s always had. “I am glad you like it.” “Oh yeah and Alvin, do you...” “Hm? What did you call me?” Alvin said, pretending to be angry at Ashley, with his way of wording and tone, having told her to call him Al like she used to, if she really thinks of him as a friend. “I mean Al, do you like.....” Before she could finish her question, she was interrupted once again, by someone opening the door and peeking in. “Are you talking with Alvin?” Maya woke up, at night, finding herself on a bed, their bed in the hotel room, Lennon sleeping by her side in a chair and holding her hand, Noah holding her other hand and sleeping on her thigh; she didn’t want to bother them so she stayed still and looked at the ceiling, recalling all the memories she lived in those short hours, as a soul following Noah as he grew older; she saw him get bullied, she saw him trying to find food for himself, she saw him fighting for his life and in the end, she saw him fall in love and get married, to the only person who truly loved him. The memories brought her to tears, Noah lived a harsh life but in the end, he was happy with his lovely demon wife; he had a fulfilling life, that came to a uplifting conclusion; it made her wish they never transmigrated to his world and destroy his whole arc, because she believed that people went through things for a reason, he had a terrible childhood for a reason, it’s what he made him who he was when he became an adult, the fearless unwavering man who killed all demons without batting an eye or feeling sorry for anyone, other than the people who became his allies and friends. It also had negative effects on him, his trust issues and inability to trust the FL completely, his hesitation to help others in fear of them using him, his unwillingness to follow anyone or be around other people who he doesn’t know well; his childhood may had more negative effects than positive ones, but it made him who he was and time can heal anything in her eyes, she was sure that after the story ended, Noah was able to move on and live his life happily with his wife and future kids. Well that’s debatable, but that’s not our story so back to ours, Maya turned around to look at the sleeping Noah and played with his hair, moving her fingers between his soft locks, seeing his innocent sleeping face, made her smile, he looked like an angel and not the same as the ones she saw earlier, it made her want to protect him from all the dangers of the world and hold him in her arms forever. But knowing how he will become in the future, she doubted her ability to do so, maybe now she will be able to do it but as soon as he becomes a teenager, which will be in approximately ten years, she will have a hard time doing so, because the story described Noah as so strong that no human could stand against him, when he was only fifteen years old. Maya sighed loudly and glanced at Lennon, imagining his reaction when he will know about the plot twist, that the author decided to make all of a sudden because she watched a movie and liked the idea, he will surely start badmouthing Nova and complaining, but soon after he will give up on it and try to work out a solution. ‘I hate that I know him that well.’ Maya sighed again and this time, it woke Lennon up along with Noah, both son and father were excited to see her awake and both held her hand tightly, asking her if she was okay, Noah tearing up soon after the question because he saw Maya’s sad smile face, that she usually made when she got hurt but she didn’t want him to know about it. “I am alright, I promise, don’t cry baby.” Maya said but Noah didn’t believe her and continued to cry silently, burying his face in her chest and wetting her shirt with his tears and snot, it only made her smile and hug him, saying: “Noey, don’t cry, it makes me sad to see you cry, do you want me to be sad?” “No! I want mama to be always happy.” Noah disagreed immediately and wiped his face aggressively to hide the tears. Maya stopped him and started wiping his tears gently with the hem of her shirt and said: “Me too, I want Noey to always be happy and not cry, so promise me you won’t cry.” “Promise!” Noah said, nodding with a smile and engraving the promise deep in his brain, maybe taking it a bit too seriously. After that ended, Maya hugged Noah and kissed his forehead, Lennon watching all of this with a smile and then getting up, to get a glass of water for Maya, when he came back, he found Noah sleeping on Maya’s chest, his whole body on hers, as he sat on her thighs and put his weight on her. “Did he fall asleep?” Lennon asked, to make sure that Noah was deep asleep so he could take him away from Maya and let her rest. “Yeah, he must be tired.” Maya responded, smiling and playing with Noah’s hair, much to his pleasure. “Do you want me to move him away from you?” “No, it’s alright.” “Okay, so what happened to you?” Lennon sat down and asked, because he knows her fainting didn’t happen, only because heatstroke or something, the scream he heard from her was one of true pain and agony. “Nova.” Maya said that single unfortunate name, they had to hear when they first came here and Lennon understood that Nova had a hand in what happened to Maya. “What did that stupid piece of who knows what do to you?” Lennon didn’t like Nova already, because of the way it acted when he got them here for his own gain, and the fact that he made Maya suffer from pain, made him dislike him even more. “Well, he showed me the story, Noah’s story.” Maya’s sentence made Lennon a bit confused, he didn’t understand what it had to do with her fainting and screaming, what did those memories do to her? Is it because there were a lot of informations all at once? Maybe that’s what happened because it also happened to him after studying for his final exams and he collapsed soon after he finished the exams and someone put him in the infirmary room that day and patted his head and told him to take care of himself, he holds that memory dear to him. “Is that made you collapse?” Lennon asked, to make sure he got the full picture and he did, his explanation was right on the spot. “Yes but that’s not important, what’s important now is that there is a plot twist.” “Plot twist? What plot twist?” “An apocalypse is going to happen in a year or so.” Maya said and Lennon was unable to believe it, looking at her straight in the face and trying to see if she was joking, she wasn’t. ‘Couldn’t get any better ‘sigh’ I miss gaming in my room.’
